[Quest] Into The Mountains

"You... again..."

He thought it must be a pain hallucination; the loss of blood combined with Tylor's burning fingertip driving his mind into some kind of trance where all his dreams and nightmares were given form. What other explanation could there be for a white wolf the size of a small horse suddenly appearing in their midst, offering help and safety.

Interesting way to die. Seeing Ama-

Then that alabaster snout swung his way and the creature snorted an impatient breath across his face like a minor hurricane. The Myrian had no doubt, then, that he was not just dreaming. Especially when Tylor was heaved onto the wolf's back as she growled testily, claws flexing and scraping at the bare stone, eager to get moving.

"Don't be worried, she's an ally. Come on, let's get you to her back, she will take you back to Syliras post-haste."

"I know... her..." Razkar managed to mumble, weakly, but no more than that. Between his lover and the bulky Ayden, he was hauled to his feat with surprising speed and Tylor gritted his teeth, lifting and straining to get the savage onto the dire wolf. "She is... forest... soul..."

Ayden frowned, wondering if he'd ever heard it put that way before. He knew of Ama, of course; all the squires had heard the stories of the etheral figure blessed by Priskil who safeguarded the Bronze Woods against threats without and within. But now he saw her with his own eyes; vast, formidable, crackling with a predator's instincts... but those were not the eyes of an animal.

"I will be... fine," Razkar managed to mutter, smiling around gritted teeth and managing a wink at Edreina that was much more like a long blink, "Take me to... to..."

"Yes, the healers!" Tylor finished for him, wounded nearly as badly as Razkar but far less willing to wait round and bleed to death. He kicked Ama's sides lightly, ignoring her warning growl. "Let's go, Ama! Devour the distance and deliver us hoSHYKE!"

A quick blink: that was all the time she needed. In that fragment of Tanroa's realm that inscrutable deity seemed to allow her so much freedom. Ama bounded off from her spot and was already sprinting down the craggy path they'd come by, heading for the hidden spread of Syliras beyond the mountains. A days fast ride... perhaps more.

But Ayden's jaw was still dropping as he watched the Kelvic bound away like horizontal lightning, grunting under the weight of two passengers (one of them armored), but still determined to get them both to the safety they had earned.

Caravans and travelers were not the only prey those bandits had butchered, and the beasts of the Bronze Woods had lived in fear for long enough. She would see them returned to safety if it took her last breath.

"Gods... female..." Razkar grunted as he held on around Tylor's waist, bucking lupine spine hammering into his crotch whenever she landed. "Be... lil' more... careful...!"

Razkar has been cursed by Yahal, and as such finds little acceptance from others; they will instinctively view him as being deceptive and traitorous. However, when close to one blessed by Yahal, the effect is negated. The curse is etched onto his left pectoral, and viewing the mark causes others to feel dirty and unclean.

OOCERMAGERD! *shakes the Myrian off of my back* It's only been five days! Gimme a break! :P

Despite her worry for Razkar, Edreina could not flail oddly and fall back onto her rump in surprise as a monster thundered from the woods. Was this another trick of the bandits? Her hands quickly sought a rock until she saw that no one was reacting quite as she had. They seemed surprised, but terror did not appear to be ripping through their veins. A brow cocked as she watched Tylor mount the wolf. Was it even a wolf? Edreina had never seen nor heard of one so vast. And here I thought these silly land-walkers only road demons with hooves, the Svefra caught herself thinking, eyes wide as she fought the urge to run from the beast.

Forget its supposedly comforting light, for Edreina's threadbare mental state was past the point of being soothed, and she saw only a monster with gleaming fur. It was unearthly and unnatural. Had her mind not been chasing the tail of her worry over Razkar, she would have mustered the courage to rise from the ground and run as far as she could from it.

Don't be worried?

Hah!

That thing would make a shark shudder.

Before she could gasp out a word of comfort to her friend, the monster was hurtling through the woods. She looked to the two nights even as they were remounting their horses, mouth parted to speak though she could find no words.

"You'll have to ride to keep up with us," Ayden said, but hesitated at the look on Edreina's face. "You can ride, can you not?"

How could she say that she was terrified of horses? And with good reason! Those hooves! Those powerful limbs! Those teeth! The redhead sputtered out a noncommittal answer and received a simple "huh" in return as Ayden chewed over his thoughts and the inside of his cheek.

Finally, his mind seemed made up. Only ticks had passed, but it seemed like an eternity as her best friend rocketed away on the brink of the abyss. "Just hold on tight with your legs and the saddle's horn." He rode over to Ser Tylor's horse and tied its reins to his own's saddle.

The Svefra frowned at the beast, hands trembling. It was impossible. A woman of the Sea was not meant to ride such a monstrosity. Her heart thundered in anticipation of the beat of the horse's hooves, causing her breath to catch in her throat. Grow some gills! Razkar might need you and yet here you stand frozen in fear? Where was your fear when those men were attacking you? That's right, it died beneath necessity. Taking a deep breath, Edreina ran to pick up her rucksack and her whip, burning off a fraction of her nervous energy. As a last thought, she ran over to where Razkar's ax had fallen after leaving the cursed archer's body, knowing he would be upset about losing it.

She quickly realized that her mind was focusing on inconsequential things as she subconsciously avoided the horse. Mild annoyance was evident on the Knights' faces, but they said nothing. The woman had already done more than they thought her capable of, and so she could be granted a moment to be shaken by the day's events.

With a final hard swallow - hoping it would rid her of her fear - Edreina pulled herself into the saddle. The horse whickered at the obviously incompetent rider, shifting his weight in a way that nearly caused Edreina to whimper in fear.

"Just hold on tight, alright?"

Edreina nodded, squeezing her muscular legs about the horse's barrel, one hand finding the saddle while the other found the horse's mane. For some reason, holding onto the monster itself brought her more comfort than holding onto that which was not attached to it. Her eyes would not open until the thundering monster came to a stop or she found herself hurtling through the air and towards her death.

OOCAlright, this should be my closing post. Please submit the thread to the grading request thread. :)

Ama plowed onward, she would have to balance speed and comfort. Too much bumps could risk further injury for the two passengers. They may or may not make it in a single day's travel. Nevertheless, the dire Kelvic was determined to cover as much distance before resting. She hoped both Razkar and Tylor's wounds were not too fatal, but by the looks of it, she had high hopes. Both of them were veterans and most likely had experienced this kind of situation before.

As for the other knights, they went in a more leisurely pace. After the whole bandit business, they wanted to enjoy some nature before going entering the cramped Fortress once more.

[Quest] Into The Mountains

Razkar had to admit, she certainly made the miles seem small... but not small enough. The constant jostling and bumping was soon absorbed by his body and he felt exhaustion fall across him again like a death shroud. Gods, he wanted to close his eyes so badly. He was so tired, had endured to much... a few chimes couldn't hurt, surely...

The hulking horse-sized wolf bounded down the mountain, swifter than a billy-goat, and began to run parallel to the Kabrin Road, running faster on mud and grass than unnaturally hard, straight lines of gravel and stone.

City... is that a city... yes... it must be...

Something shone bright and tempting through the haze of the Myrian's vision. Burning light that seemed like Syna only... flatter. The horizon, perhaps, and he knew it was Syliras. Good... that was good... then he could-

-scream-

-like a little boy, as Tylor roughly shoved an elbow into his barely-bandaged wound.

"Don't fall asleep, you savage bastard!" The surly Knight growled, face pinched and gaunt with the pain of his own injury, but he'd had many more used to become used to such risks of his career. "You know better than that!"

The pain and the voice, so familiar despite the male tone of it, just like his mother and instructors and all those fucking females who'd battered him into manhood (Myri Bless and Protect them... naturally). But once it faded and his machismo with it, Razkar was grateful. The dark blurs at the edge of his eyes had been chased away, well to the specter of Dira, coaxing him with a long, deep sleep from this place...

Well. One way to look at the Final Nap, I suppose.

"I was resting my eyes!"

"You know how many guards I'veARGH!" Another ditch vaulted like it was a puddle by Ama, but the impact jarred the humans organs around, including the ones pierced by that arrow. Tylor hissed and bit out a litany of curses. "Fucking cunt-faced shit-licking-"

"Knights can make curses?!"

"When we've been arrow-pierced in the sodding guts, yes, we can!"

The roar of wind whipped through the dire wolf's fur, breathless and swift as he own feet, and despite the bells and leagues behind her, Ama howled as she got close to the North Gate. Already ant-like figures in shining carapaces (or chainmail armor, if you're less poetical) were scurrying around in mingled confusion and curiosity, weapons at the ready... until an older one realized who was riding at the front of Ama-

"Bugger me!"

-and scurried off for someone much more senior than him to take over. Razkar chuckled wearily as the jolts began to slow and ease, Ama's tongue lolling out the fang-filled mouth, impossibly slick as if from sweat underneath him... and grey-robed healers bobbed like fleeing monks... only they were fleeing towards the strange trio, two mounting the vaster third, coming to a halt before the gate.

"Him! The savage!" Tylor was already barking off orders, and while Razkar didn't like his vocabulary, he had to admit, the grizzled veteran knew to take care of his men before himself. He'd learned well. "Get him patched, for Sylir's sake, damn you! He's lost blood!"

"Not... all..."

"Enough, then! Hands off me, boy, I don't need a bloody crutch! I can walk!"

Razkar left him to it and as the healer's began to lead him further into the Stormhold (because he bloody well did need crutches). But the shambling figures did frown as they stood either side of him, words definitely Common but making no sense tumbling from his lips. Delirium, probably, they both seemed to say with an exchanged and concerned glance. Wounded, blood-leaking, tired and a savage to boot... yes... had to be...

"Caves, Edri..." Razkar said with a chuckle like a death rattle but still strong and mocking, whoever 'Edri' was, "You said... we'd need you for... caves... Never even saw a... bloody... cave... s'what you get for... being a... good..."

There was more. Probably. But a man's entitled to his own fantasies when he's fought for the Knights, or so the healers had been told, and they did naught but roll their eyes and help the hobbling Myrian to his bed.

"Shyke!"

And avoid the fly-feasted dropping that were on the way, of course...

[Quest] Into The Mountains

"We've stopped now... You realize that, right?" One of the knights asked Edreina as she was still clinging tightly to the saddle of the now-still horse. Mentally, she was still rocking back and forth upon the horse. But, that was just the blood pumping through her head. Eventually, her hands released the horn in front of her, tingling dully from gripping so hard for so long.

"That wasn't so bad..." she muttered, turning to extricate herself from the foul leather contraption. Of course, the moment she hit the ground her trembling legs gave way and she crashed into the dirty cobblestones. A grumble left her lips and her hands waved dismissively as a Knight moved to help her stand. "Just need to get my bearings back," she admitted with a humorless laugh, "'S'not what I was expecting, at least."

For a fraction of a tick, Ayden considered asking her what she expected. Then, he wisely remembered the look on her face when she realized that riding a horse was the only way. Probably don't have horses where she is from... the Knight thought, shaking his head.

Just as Edreina was preparing to stand, a younger looking squire ran over, bearing news of Razkar's condition. Had she been on her feet, strength would have left her once again and sent her back to the ground. He's alive... she gasped mentally, surprised by the swell of relief she felt. He was her friend, after all... It was right that she be worried. In her heart, she knew the cause of her relief, her mind had simply not managed to catch up quite yet.

She was quickly led to a room by the same young squire, and, upon the bed in an odd parody of the situation they would face days later, lay an unconscious Razkar. A stark white bandage bound his dusk-colored midsection, covering whatever damage the arrow had inflicted. The Svefra hesitated on the threshold, eyes wide. In the time she had known Razkar, she had never seen him so fragile. Normally nut-brown skin was given an ashen pallor by blood loss and trauma.

Her fingers trembled as she lay them upon his forearm, unconscious of having crossed the room to his side. There was a steady thunder beneath her fingertips, assuring her on the wellbeing of her... friend. The day had been long and emotionally draining... Thoughts wandered where they should not have.

With a sigh, Edreina crossed the room once again and took up a watchpost in the corner, sagging onto a wooden stool. She would not, she resolved, sleep until he had woken.
