Introducing The Lost Discipline Of Static

Greetings Mizaharians!

In an effort to keep Mizahar dynamic and growing, I'm proud to introduce a new lost discipline of magic to the mix: Static. This magic will be slightly exclusive for a period after its introduction, but will hopefully grow over time until it is a bit more commonplace than it is at its introduction.

Static is a Divine Magic that grants its practitioners the ability to scramble, mute and corrupt communication (including transmission of power) from The Gods to their marked followers. This magic even has the ability to interrupt prayer in all forms depending upon the level. Static works not only on people, but on objects and concepts that have originated from The Gods. Gnosis mark powers are specifically susceptible, though marked items and sacred locations can also be affected.

You can read far more about Static in its wiki article. There is a complete history, the skill levels, and how and why it became a lost discipline. I fully understand that the article is a brand new one and may undergo some revisions or contain errors or inconsistencies. Like everything else on the site, we'll work the kinks out as we go.

Feel free to ask questions, add comments, and otherwise make suggestions in this thread. Any discussion will ultimately go to strengthen the article and understanding of this discipline in the long run, so don't be shy about speaking out.

Regards,

Wretched Aura: As a Wretched One Evalin possesses an unnatural aura about her that causes unease in those who get too close. It can come as a prickle of the hair on the back of the neck, a sense of 'wrongness' about her. How people experience it is different depending on their personality and how they handle the unnatural and unknown. Animals tend to become more agitated, more easily sensing how wrong Evalin is and often avoiding contact with her.

Introducing The Lost Discipline Of Static

Interesting! Seems awesome :)
Small question though:

Is there - just like with Gnosis' - a limitation on being a Ghost?
That is to say: Can ghosts learn Static?

It seems awfully helpful as Ghosts are not able to learn Gnosis and as such they
are always 'at some sort of disadvantage' with a servant of [insert God]...

Ghosts can't really use this because they would have to possess a static mage to do so. The eardrums and vocal cords of the mage have been altered to both detect and produce the sound. I'll have to add a special section to the article for Nuits and how to deal with Nuits that know static, because I think they could know it for sure, it will just have to be something interesting and cool that happens when they move from body to body.

Oh, okay :(
It's just thar our ghostly lives feel so empty without a connection to the gods, or at least a way for us to annoy them ;)

Congratz with the skill though, it's still awesome

... mhhh, just came to mind: Are Ghosts then immune to the negative effects of static? ( = the forced initiation part)
I mean: it would be weird to 'deafen' an ethereal body...

Really interesting article Goss :) Great job! This will be interesting to see where it goes.

Introducing The Lost Discipline Of Static

It's great, I like it! Though I am rather confused about how this might effect those with the Uldr's Returning gnosis. The undead rely on their gnosis for their continued existence, so when their gnosis is shut down do they simply die? That seems like it could be a bit extreme. Does something else happen?

I think they don't die, they lose their ability such as like :strength, dexterity, toughness! They will be no more than a nuit while the static mage affect their mark.

Edit: I mean I guess, I'm not sure either.

Hmm... interesting. Makes me wonder if maybe Rhysol is using some version of the magic in Ravok, because he can block and intercept people's prayer in the city according to the lore.
Forecast for tonight... Dark

Introducing The Lost Discipline Of Static

Postby Rorugir on July 10th, 2013, 4:50 am

Ooh, I remember this from the whole Denval affair. It's nice to see it finally have an article all it's own, and the mention of the Ruv'na gets me excited. I can't wait to see this implemented!
