People For The Ethical Treatment Of Pulsers

So, Elsa is a creature of comfort. She's also recently arrived in Sahova. You can see where this is going.

So, given how Sahova is the seat of some of the most promising arcane minds in Mizahar, Elsa is going to set to motivating the living community of Sahova to not live like starving animals. Cleaning up the Quarters, getting a food supply going, instilling a sense of community and neighborhood, etc.

As you can tell, the paranoia hasn't set in quite yet.

Looking for people who would be willing to help/sabotage/make a fuss/get involved in some way.

oh this is interesting :) There is an NPC in sahova who has exactly those things in his political agenda. very influential as well. Goron silverheart.

Ask your friendly storyteller Mirage to help you out :D Though your sister hates him.

Osd has a few connections to him. though that's not widely known since it's only recently happened.

If you're coming down into the forges osd would be 'delighted*' to meet you though.

*read slightly annoyed to pissed when he knows who you're the sister off.

This is an interesting idea. Now there isn't much they can do about the food situation since there isn't really much food on Sahova in the first place, however, in the coming seasons depending on how trade goes with the other cities Sahova may start getting more food shipped in as a part of the trade, which means Pulsers might get more to eat. Maybe lol. That still is to be seen.

Food can be grown, too. Or alchemized, maybe. There's Kovinus Koi, and a process could be engineered to make Sahovan wildlife edible. A desperate, starving wizard is a resourceful wizard.

What are these ethics you speak of? Anyway I think such a group would be interesting to see. Though I can think of a certain Isur I wouldn't treat ethically given the chance.

*Shakes fist at Goron Silverheart and his golems*

Though... Undeath seems like a better deal to me. Just sayin'. :p

People For The Ethical Treatment Of Pulsers

Lets take a look at this idea...

There are not that many pulsers on this island as a whole. As a community if you are worth your salts as a wizard, Sahova will eventually 'allow/invite' you to join the undead ranks.

The islands population is about 500. Out of those 500 things, 90% are nuit, leaving 7% for humans, and 3% for other. !0% of 500 is 50. 5% of 500 is 25. 1% of 500 is 5.

If humans make up 7% of the population then there are only about 35 living humans on the island as a whole.

There are 450 nuits at any given time, and Sahova advocates that you drink the ''Sahovan kool-aid'' if they -really- want you. Its almost like a rite of passage. Not to say that a human could get high enough in Sahovan Hierarchy to make a difference, just it would be very odd and that person would have to be extraordinary! Like unbelievably talented and have stupid amazing ideas to further magic as a whole (that actually works). They would have to be something Sahova hasnt seen in their own wizards, which is not too likely. Nuit of Sahova exist for A single reason.

All in all, Sahova doesnt have time of day to make sure that the living are taken care of. They are enthralled in their magical research, and that take priority over everything else. Humans can live and survive (if they are smart) on the island for some time, but it is not a place meant for the living and it promotes turning to a nuit. The living can survive, and with that 'concern' out of the way the nuits can go on with their plotting.

After all, its not like Sahova -needs- living things. They have automata and animation galore! Slaves are not necessary, just a want of the island for some more questionable research practices.

If you try this, Im warning you that you will be fighting an uphill battle with the status quo of Sahova and its not likely to see any fruit.

I had the idea of transmuting food with Alchemy, but... its not a very good idea. Not, at least, if you value your health and well being!

It's not about instituting change at the policy level. It's about motivating people to take charge of their environment and make their stay on Sahova a bit more bearable. Grassroots, y'know?

The point isn't necessarily to succeed. The point is to try, and see what happens. What happens when someone starts posting flyers in Quarters encouraging people to talk to each other and help each other out? What happens when you take a bunch of paranoid sociopaths and try to make a community out of them through sheer optimism?

To be honest, if you start hanging up fliers, you will more than likely find your inert, semi-conscious body being dragged down to the Palsa Hydrasa so they can rob you of your soul and toss you onto the corpse heap for future projects.

Just saying.

Or you do it like Rayage suggested and pull a Goron Silverheart. Were you to ascend so far as to be in the Guild of Masters, you might be able to make a difference for the living on their behalf. Otherwise, you're just a meatbag.

Well as they all say the odds are stacked against you in a really unfair way. Not only do the nuits not care about the Pulsers, they feel they are above them. Also the land on Sahova simply does not support much in the way of edible plants, and as a result what few natural animals there are are usually just as bad to eat, and what little you can eat has very little meat on it in the first place. Sure you can fish, but there is not a huge abundance as you might think in the waters surrounding Sahova.

So it will suck if you try this. Your PC will hate every second of it, get treated worse than you can imagine most likely, suffer a lot. Does that mean you should give up? Heck no :). I will tell you like I tell all my players. If you can MAKE IT WORK then we will see what happens. So the problems you will face are as follows:

1) Nuits rule everything, and their word is final. In order to do ANYTHING you will need to gain real power, and influence in the island. Much easier said than done, especially while keeping ahold of your humanity.

2) The Pulsers are broken. They have all accepted their fates on the island at this point, and very little can be done to change this. You will have to somehow find a way to make them realize that they CAN survive, and that they should try to make life better for themselves. Again not very easy to do.

3) There is very very little food, and what little there is is already being rationed out. The food on Sahova comes from 3 major sources: 1. Hunting edible animals (mostly rodents and some small birds) from around the island, 2. Fishing in the surrounding waters, and 3. what few edible plants exist. Some have already tried creating new sources of edible food on Sahova, but will little effectiveness. Things just do not take well to the soil on this little island. The things that do live are tough and hardy, not really good for eating. So somehow you will have to find a way to produce more food for the entire island.

4) By starting this new 'movement' Elsa will be making waves in the established hierarchy. That means she will most likely be targeted by many in power. That also means she will probably have to deal with the Silence.

So when it comes down to it she first has to gain rank and power, then make good connections, possibly get involved and on good terms with the Silence (if she can find them), get lots of support and prove that nuits should treat pulsers better, and THEN probably she can start working on making their life better. I say go for it. Nothing ventured nothing gained right? Just understand the risks, and do not be afraid to accept the consequences. That is what Sahova is all about after all lol.
