A city floating in the center of a lake, Ravok is a place of dark beauty, romance and culture. Behind it all though is the presence of Rhysol, God of Evil and Betrayal. The city is controlled by The Black Sun, a religious organization devoted to Rhysol. [Lore]

[Ravok OOC Thread] The Water's Depths

So you know... all of the Rising Sun leaders are dead, either in other events, or during the execution. As are most of the members, as well.

In more OOC things, I've tried to bring that plot line to a close, mostly because it was ending anyways, and I'm uncertain on the history since it's creation... so it's easier to start something from scratch.

Hey Ravok. :) So due to some events outside of my control, I'm needing to move Sophie out of Sunberth. The thing is, the only way to do so and still stay in character would for it to be an unwilling relocation, likely as a slave. If anyone is interested, I've got more than enough time to have arrived this season or next. Just shoot me a PM and we can arrange a purchase or something else. :)

[Ravok OOC Thread] The Water's Depths

Hey Ravokians! This is a question I want to throw out to all of you.

For the past two seasons, I have done an almanac to go with the calendar. A weather thing, really. Now... the question is... do you guys use this? Is it worth me putting in the effort to write it up and add it for next season? Or is it something that just sits there and is kind of ignored?

I want honest replies here, please... as I don't want to write it up and have it not used.

[Ravok OOC Thread] The Water's Depths

I have used it in a couple of threads.
Mostly only so far as the Winter weather affecting attempts at herb gathering.
My Spring threads didn't quite line up with any of the events, though they could have been mentioned in passing.
It slips my mind to consider that ANY change in weather would be noteworthy to a citizen of Ravok. Especially if it's actually IN TOWN.
I certainly appreciate the effort, though I admit I have not used it much.

I would prefer you called me "Nolan Parnell"...In fact, I insist.

I always look at the calendar to see if there’s something I can use in my threads, as added setting or as topic to build from. So I appreciate it very much that there is a calendar, including the weather. Sometimes I manage to use it and sometimes not. But I have used it and the important thing is that it always it gives me triggers for thinking and plotting.

I would say keep it, but simplify it so you don’t need to write extra posts. I don’t believe in taking anything away, but you just could integrate all the stuff in the same calendar. It makes for less work for you and at same time it easier for us to see the total of what happens in the city.

I use it, and just recently I've been pleasantly surprised by another's use of it in our thread. Like Ino said though, its easy to forget there can be changes to the weather in Ravok when you get used to the idea that its protected all the time.

I would like you to keep doing it, even if only to a lesser extent.

I've yet to fully had time to use the almanac in part of Artur's threads, then again of course I never really got around to having much threads to begin with. All the same I love seeing the almanac and think it a great idea! The only thing is that if it seems to be nothing more than a waste of time for you, then you don't have to go through the hard effort of making another one. I certainly do plan on using future ones though if you continue to make them, as I think Artur will likely head to the shore off and on for several purposes. :)

I regret saying that I haven't used it yet. I sort of forgot all about it to be honest, though I wanted to use it. It is an excellent source though, especially for those who leave the city's protection for a walk around the shore, where I guess the weather has it's full effect.

Amolina's idea is great, if it is possible to be integrated along with everything else in the same calendar, perhaps we will be more keen to use it.

Thank you for the effort, Abby. Please keep doing it.

The Art will twist you and turn you.
It will break you and tear you asunder; from your scattered remains it will shape you.
It will engulf you and spit you out.
It will fester in your mind, disfigure your body and blacken your soul.
And so on and so forth, through an endless chain of transformations till the time comes and you are everything...
Then you'll truly be nothing...

Lately I have been thinking about the Ravok city lore and given it a new read. I have been reading the parts of the wiki about the city, about Rhysol, about the Black Sun, about the Ebonstryfe ... all of it, inlcuding V's materials "A deeper look" and Gillars announcements.

The reason is that I couldn't remember having seen anywehere in the lore that Ravok would be "the city of chaos" or "a chaotic city". Thought I'd check it up with you guys, would be interesting to see how other players in the city are thinking about it.

My personal impression of it :

Ravok is a religious and military dictature. It has 15000 inhabitants. 10% are non human and most of those are slaves. 45 % of the human citizens, 6000 people, are members of Black Sun and Ebonstryfe. It’s the main military base of Rhysol and his religious highquarters too, with strict religious and military hierarchies and a constantly high level of internal control of the cult and stryfe members as well as control of the other citizens.

Officially crime isn’t allowed. The water is clean, the weather is fine, the culture is alluring, people are equal, wealth is visibly displayed, health care is free, parties and festivities are lavish - everything is like one big showcase meant to market the good life that waits people who follow Rhysol. Once a visitor enter Ravok all this glamour starts to work at them in order to tempt them and convert them, if they aren’t already true believers.

Beneath the appealing surface, there’s extensive corruption, unfathomable evil, and a total symbiosis between the state and organized crime. This isn't openly displayed and there's no general chaos to be seen in the city all the time. It's not an anarchy. But the brutality and true nature of the city can be observed in form of public executions, pitfights, military parades, Ebonstryfe surveillance and interventions, torture, disappearances, re-education of failing citizens, slavery, racism, unethical research, legal use of destructive magic ...
