Wet Behind the Ears

Just as he recomposed himself to prepare for another assault the one thing he wanted to happen actually happened, where as many would simply use their brawns to win against their opponent the recruit with the trident rallied his allies together to unify for the cause. It was the definitive spark Ricky looked for in terms of potential, the quality of leadership that was matched with intellect to better counter against the opposing forces of the world. The fisherman definitely raised his eyebrows as the sight of the three communing together, and all the more found himself rather impressed as a small but proud smirk filled his expression. Dat's 'ow ya do it now, work t'gether an' realize it takes teamwork. Though not exactly what he anticipated in being part of the lesson, Ricky was rather quick to realize that he'd more or less intuitively helped shed light on an important thing to learn.

Teamwork. In the Wave Guard everyone is a brother or sister in arms, they are the ones that have your back in the darkest night. They are the shield on your arm and the sword in your hand, and so long as you relied on them and in turn they relied on you... then there was nothing to fear in the event Zeltiva needed her guardians to rise against the odds. As he realized this himself Ricky felt all the more determined now, even if he were alone he still wasn't going to make this easy for them. Yet the important thing was the test in itself, as they'd certainly passed the first part of his little training session. Now it was time to see if their synergy would follow through, and in turn lead them to victory in the attempt to disarm Ricky and break through his defense.

They'd returned to the same triangle formation as before, though not quite as bold to surround him this time as they did the first time. It was an acute triangle formation that allowed Ricky to keep all three in sight, yet that meant he still had to deal with an entire barrage of a frontal assault. Yet he wasn't intimidated, more or less tempted actually, from the challenge alone. Aight den lads, show Papa Rick what ye got. He mused with a twirl of his blade, the shield stood ready as a defense before him, ready to absorb every coming blow in hopes to create the impenetrable defense. Of course such wouldn't be the case, even with his solid constructed paradigm he followed, there was no way to hold the three of them off at once. He knew it, yet he couldn't refrain from grinning for some reason... the word was given, the recruits were at it again. Now was the time to act.

First was the recruit with the mace, simple but effective motions to swing the club left and right instead of downward like he did before. No doubt the recruit learned that downward strikes were powerful but not entirely effective on frontal assaults, nevertheless he was swinging it around enough to use the weight of the mace as it would collide into the shield Ricky held up. Upon the first loud clang from the scrape of the metal upon metal surface, Ricky started to retreat back slowly several steps. It was a continous retreat as he felt his entire start to budge with each hard swipe. Each loud bang of the mace rattled the shield to the point where his left forearm felt exhausted, and sure enough just as he tried to prepare for a countermeasure he already found that his sword arm was the next to be overwhelmed. The sword wielder had taken to the same method of the mace user, only his strikes were more pinpointed rather than wildly about. What chances Ricky got to flourish his blade were little, no where near great enough to work enough force behind a counter measure to disarm him. Debilitator tactics were no longer in the play, Ricky was only pure Guardian now and even that wasn't working out for him.

He was caught with two occupied sides and both quickly worked to exhaust him, even when he managed to pull back into a evasive jump they still held their ground in the assault. Son o' a petchin' bitch! He grunted as he brought both sword and shield up together, they both absorbed the impact of the two recruits weapons as Ricky remained firmly planted on the ground to where he was open for a strike. Now was the moment Pulren no doubt waited for, the opening in the defense they needed to prove victorious against their enemy! Now that Ricky's sword and shield arm were pretty much heavily occupied in holding up both sword and mace of the two recruits, he middle and lower regions of defense were wide open for any attack he would send his way. The weight... no possible way to evade an oncoming blow with it, Ricky was literally pinned down in one place as he struggled to stand his own ground.

Wet Behind the Ears

The trio grouped up and set themselves for assault. Pulren felt a rush of pride as his plan unfurled before him. His trident at the ready, he moved in inches toward the Sergeant as the duo worked the flanks. The Mace had learned from his previous attempts to make his attacks more direct and not so wild. The Sword was focusing on the hilt end of the blade, shortening Rick's ability to flourish. Pulren kept hitting the ground with tines near Rick's feet. He didn't want him to gain purchase for another rollout.

"You know, you can yield if you like, Sarge." Pulren felt a giddy high from having control over the situation, however brief it might be. His trident scraped at the ground in forward strikes as the flanks pushed Rick into a defensive posture. "We don't want to hurt you. We wouldn't try to hurt a criminal either." Mace finally chimed in between strikes. "Unless he didn't yield!" The trio all laughed as they gained the advantage.

Pulren could see that he had several openings for a strike to Rick's torso but killing was the way of the villain. They were Guards, or soon would be anyway, so a different tactic would have to come into play. turning his trident around so that the blunt end was pointed toward his quarry, Pulren gripped it as one might a staff or spear for defense. Stepping in, he went for the wrist of Rick's sword arm and then alternated to the elbow of the shield arm. Disarming him was the honorable thing to do if he wouldn't yield.

Wet Behind the Ears

As he continued to grunt and hold his ground Ricky couldn’t help but scoff a bit as he strained himself further to hold against the blows of the two recruits, he was honestly rather amused with how they were suddenly confident now that they had the upper hand. Cocky bastards t’ey ‘re! He admitted with a wry weak smile on his face as he felt one of knee’s finally starting to budge, it was then the weight lightened as the two recruits pulled their weapons back and the third finally disarmed him. It was a quick and sudden flash of pain brought on by the dull jab of the trident the recruit Pulren used, yet all the same those jabs were pinpointed right where Ricky held onto his sword and shield, and in turn broke the final fortitude left within them as he fell to the ground on one knee at last.

Both sword and shield were dropped next to him on each side as the recruits pulled back in victory, their success a highlight to the cause and effect of a team when they worked as one. Even as recruits Ricky had to admit they held a perfect synergy together, one that had flawless execution and the right amount of timing in the end. He was rather proud to see that, in turn it led him to believe that with stout hearts like these, the future of Zeltiva would surely be safe in the hands of the next generation. Finally the fisherman rose back to his feet with heavy pants, arms in a dangle as they felt numb from the exercise they got. He looked to each recruit individually with a nod, and then finally found the ability to speak once more. "Damn good job lads!" He cheered with enthusiasm as it were a cause for a celebration, a sharp hearty grin on his face upon the claim. "T’at is de kinda shyke Oi wanna see out in de streets! Out in de field o’ combat! When yer time comes, and believe me it will come, remember t’is day and know t’at as the Wave Guard we stand as one."

He hadn’t thought to put the whole speech in behind the lesson but it was by far too important not to, their minds were sharpened by the prowess of combat and so information served vital at this point. Now that they’d been rallied as a unit, they would no doubt understand the importance of the guard as a whole. "It ain’t ‘bout ‘onor or glory. No, t’ose t’inks ‘re f’r de proud, an’ while we’re proud in our own right, we look at what matters most. Stout ‘earts workin’ as one, brothers in arms standin’ as the wall between safety an’ danger. T’at is what de Wave Guard is about!" He finally took to pace a little, the pride of being a Wave Guard now present in his heart. "Keep up de hard work an’ trainin’ like ya did t’day, and yew t’ shall join de ranks. Yew t’ will be a brother in arms, an’ ye’ll learn what it means t’ be a true Wave Guard in serving Zeltiva." He finally started to calm down a little at the end of his speech, the enthusiasm and excitement brought down a few bars as he still looked to them with a hearty smile on his face.

"Now Oi want t’ see more o t’at when de time comes, but f’r now ye need t’ focus on yer practices wit’ shields, and get some swimmin’ practice down t’. Oi’d hate t’ see ye land lubbers drown durin’ de initiation exam." He quirked as a sharper grin formulated then. Only to find that his nose felt wet on the inside. Odd. He didn’t take any direct blows or punches during the training, nor did he accidentally bash himself in the face. He was covered in sweat of course but no real injuries had occurred from it, yet now by the looks of it Ricky was suffering another nosebleed. Another meaning the occurrence happened before, off and on actually as it only started recently just before the new year came. He pretended it was no big deal, and wiped his nostrils with the back of his hand as he ordered for the recruits to take their lunch, a smirk on his face as he prided in the lesson they'd learned today.
