A Thread Full Of Fish Stories (Aladari)

Aladari nodded, content with the group's answers.

"I am Aladari." She withheld her Hold name, still. It was common enough to be without one altogether, so it shouldn't be too suspicious to leave one out.

She watched in silence for a moment as the fire sparked to life. The man who had started it, Riluc, seemed engrossed in his work, only leaning back to speak of his history once he had finished.

Aladari's ears perked up at the mention of Mura. "Mura? I been to there, long time ago. It was...very pretty there. I love the people. And the fish there." She grinned loosely for the first time that day. She had fond memories of Mura, and she couldn't fight the smile that came with them.

"So, you're all of Sunberth. You not never seen the Kanvi Squid then?"

Aladari herself had not seen the Kanvi Squid, of course. But what was a little fish tale to impress her new companions?

"The ship, it was sailing through the whirlpools, and Laviku was angry on the night." She began to edge closer to the fire, really falling into the story the way only a Vantha could. "We wasn't ready for the big waves, but they was comin' anyways. They was splashin' up on the side of the boat, and wettin' all the beds and the sailors down through their bones. And whadya know, there was squids comin' over the sides!"

Aladari's eyes were wide and purple, deeply engaged. She waved her hands like the waves crashing over the side of a boat.

"We made it out alive, by the grace of Laviku, but when we gots away, there was still squids sittin' on the deck. We hadn't know what to do with 'em. But one of the Svefra boys said they knows they was good for eatin'. We went to cut 'em up, and they started changin' colors! Just like me eyes. The eggs spilt out of they tummies, and they was the greatest flavor you ever tasted."

This part of the story was a partial truth. Aladari had eaten some Kanvi Squid eggs on the trip to Sunberth, and they had been the most delicious seafood she had ever had. They had the most subtle fishy taste, yet they were rich, and soft.

Aladari let her hands fall to her sides. "They got nothin' like it in Sunberth. Not Mura neither."
"The sea always filled her with longing, though for what she was never sure."

A Thread Full Of Fish Stories (Aladari)

Postby Autumn Leithea on July 23rd, 2016, 5:52 pm

As Aladari dipped into her story Autumn and Marjorie could hear the fire crackle, its warmth and flames licking upward at the night always captivating Autumn, and she stared at the dancing flames as the Vantha continued her story, half in a trance yet still listening. The story, they both could tell, was a good one, and watched as the little storyteller made gestures with her hands to help illustrate what she was saying.

They listened this way for about half an hour, a welcome story they thought. Marjorie lay down after awhile, head in Autumn's lap, and with the calming nature of the story being told Marjorie began to drift inbetween sleep and waking, Autumn caressing her hair gently. Autumn reached over and grabbed both of their poles and removed the strings tied to the sticks, slipping a knot over one of her toes and the other around one of Marjorie's. Marjorie opened an eye and smiled at Autumn, then going back into her pensive trance. Autumn listened intently, ever the storyteller looking for new stories to tell.
This Vantha seemed young, but with a feisty appreciation for life, and it seemed....
Autumn's eyes opened wide for a moment... She felt the furious tugging sensation of the string on her big toe and knew what it meant...

"Fish on!" she stated loudly.

A Thread Full Of Fish Stories (Aladari)

Riluc checked his fishing line as Aladari began her story, seeing that it was queit he leaned back on his elbow and looked over at the young women also gathered around the camp fire. It was wonderfuly to feel the warmth against his skin. Many of his canine family had hated fires being afraid of it, but his canine mother had taught Riluc the true value of them. Dangerous, but glorious at the same time.

Rilic had also first tried seafood on mura and it was were he had first really learned about fishing himself, as his second mother, a konti woman who had adopted him as her son, had been a witch of Caiyha who watched oceans and coastal regions. Riluc thought about the goddess as he sat there. She had been a close part of his life. He was sure that it was with her careful guidance that he had survived childhood, and then been blessed with a chance to learn more.

He listened to the story all the while watching her expression. She was a good story teller, and the young man watched in fasination. He couldn't tell stories like that, frankly he found it hard to talk to people. He liked that the northern woman was doing most of the talking. His thoughts were interupted though as someone was catching a fish. Riluc moved forward to help bring the fish in once it had been brought in.

Once thefish was in Riluc looked over at Aladari. "How long ago were you in Mura. I was there for a number of years. It was there that I first learned how to fish. I remember that I didn't know how to didn't know how to swim. It was terrifing."

A Thread Full Of Fish Stories (Aladari)

Postby Aladari Coolwater on August 15th, 2016, 10:32 pm

Aladari had long forgotten the idea of fishing, caught up in the chatter and memories. But the call of "fish on!" was enough to bring her back.

Autumn had called rather loudly, causing Aladari to frown inwardly. I guess the rest of us are done fishing for the day, too. The fish will all be scared away now.

She couldn't stay mad for long though, with the prospect of catching this fish with new friends.

"I kin help." She offered, but Riluc was closer, and made a move before she was even done speaking. This bothered her none, as she preferred to take care of her own catches and not others. So, while they reeled in and freed the fish, Aladari considered Riluc's question.

"I was in Mura at...oh, tin years ago? Was pretty nice, very nice to see. Met a lotsa nice people there. The Konti's nice people. So friendly. I liked my time in Mura, even though I'm not knowin' how to swim neither. I prefer to stay on the water, 'stead'a in it." Aladari chuckled softly at her own joke. "That way, I feel in c'ntrol of it, ya know? In the water, I never know what's goin' ta happen."

Aladari gestured to the newly captured fish, smiling with pride for her friends. Her eyes sparkled a comfortable red-pink, not unlike the glow of the fire.
"So, abouts this fish. Anyone knowing how to cook it? I heard fish fries is delicious!"

OOCHow are we planning on ending this one? Do we wanna break off into another thread for the frying of the fish, or do we just wanna end it after another round?
"The sea always filled her with longing, though for what she was never sure."
