I am sorry if this has been addressed already, but I was curious about travel in Mizahar.

I understand that Mizahar is supposed to be a very large area and travel can take a great deal of time. The character I want to play is somewhat of a wanderer, one who will travel from place to place and I was curious as to how I could go about that.

For example, I am considering having my character starting in The Spires intent on traveling to Avanthal and am not quite sure how travel in general works.

Since my pc is an (outwardly mousy) librarian (secretly bat-guano crazy), she doesn't get out that often, so I unfortunately do not have much experience with travel.

I do have a Distance Chart for you though. I hope that is a little helpful.

Also since Mizahar is such a dangerous place for a novice such as you with only 10 XP Land Navigation and 10 XP Brawling to find a group of people willing to travel with you.

You can recruit people to your amazing posse by posting in the Matchmaker Forum.

Personally... Vala prefers to stay warm, cozy, and safe from things that can om nom her at a moments notice... but good luck travelling :D

Hi Quinn,

This has been addressed before, and I would just reitarate the points that are often repeated among people who ask about traveling. First up, you have to recognize that the world nearly ended, and that there aren't safe passageways, no paved roads. By 'wanderer' I am getting vibes of that lone man who journeys through the waste on his own, counting on his own mad survivalist experience to survive the day to day war called looking for food to eat and the daily threats of wild life hunting you for their food. Being partly Myrian is both a good and bad thing in the long run. Savage is a term I'd call Myrians, and traders and merchants would consider a great deal before (or not even consider) letting such a barbarian travel with them. General distrust, suspicion against your person, and so on.

It's mandatory to make "travel threads" when you're going through one place to another, just so moderators can make sure that you aren't skipping out on "roleplay duties". You need to fully explain how you went from Taloba to the Spires and then to Avanthal. That seems rather odd, especially if you've just been hitchhiking all this time. If you aren't used to the cold you could tip over and die of frostbites, and so and so. It would be a miracle to continue traveling alone. Vala is right, you may want to have a companion or two, roleplay a caravan and so on.

If unsure, I suggest you contact the DS of the place you want to go to. In this case, feel free to send Cheshire a PM, she'll be more than glad to assist you :)
I. Vox Populi, Vox Dei
II. The Night the Watchtowers Cried

I am nothing special, of this I am sure. I am a common woman with common thoughts and I've led a common life. There are no monuments dedicated to me and my name will soon be forgotten, but I've loved another with all my heart and soul, and to me, this has always been enough.

Travel in Mizahar is a very dangerous undertaking. The world has been ripped asunder and over five-hundred years have passed. Nothing is like it was; cities that once existed are now little more than a handful of overgrown ruins. Grand roads that once spread across the land have been reduced to a sprinkling of stones scattered here and there. The wild has overtaken almost everything; plants, animals, monsters and so forth roam the land uncontrolled. What cities and settlements now exist, control but a small radius around them via regular patrols. When one chooses to leave an established settlement, they are taking their own lives and quite possibly their very soul into their own hands.

This all said, established travel does exist albeit in a very limited form. Caravans made up of heavily armed escorts and skilled individuals, make the journey across the uncontrolled landscape in hopes of finding trade and commerce in locales far removed from anything they have ever known. Such journeys are harsh, unforgiving and brutal. Many do not survive. Those that do grow harder, stronger and just as harsh as the land that threatens them.

If one wishes to travel, they do so by joining up with a caravan. Caravans do not take just anyone though. Gaining a spot in a caravan requires one or a combination of many things; miza, skill, women, influence, or anything else that sets one above another. What a caravan values varies with each individual that makes up the whole.

The shorter the distance, the less the threat. Don't be fooled however as the threat still remains. A caravan is threatened by barbarian tribes, beasts, monsters and natural/unnatural disasters. As there are no established roads, the caravan makes its own. Sometimes the path one caravan takes is taken by another however this does not last for very long as the various threats eventually catch on.

So yes, it is possible to travel from one place to another however the long the distance, the more dangerous it is. Simply put, if you are a lone traveler with little to no skill, you will die. Wilderness survival is a must for the lone traveler and the amount of skill needed depends on the distance one wishes to travel alone. Keep in mind that there are few if any villages outside the outer boundaries of most cities thus civilized refuge is effectively non-existent in the wilds. It is because of this that civilization has not spread further than a few scattered cities over the past five-hundred years.

Awesomes! If your coming from the Spires (Monkey central) to Avanthal we can set up a thread!

I'm gonna be leaving probably that season but we can probably fit in a thread around the time it takes for you to get here!

Just mind the chill. The area is actually almost unbearably cold, in fact most normal people will question why you go north after being in snow for awhile.
