Tranaris took up the application once it was completed. He looked down at the words written then up at the young woman in front of him. For a moment he seemed to be processing the request that she just made before shaking his head.

My dear, you are going to have your work cut out for you.” He took up a quill dipping it into the nearby inkwell. With a quickness he jot his signature down at the bottom of the parchment adding a wax seal to it. Once it was dried he set the parchment aside then took up another. With the same quickness he wrote out what appeared to be a notice of employment to the Office of Justice. He penned his signature at the bottom then folded the parchment slipping it into an envelope sealing it with wax and the official seal of his office. He handed it to Bianca then pointed to her left.

Go down that hall. You are going to come to a cross section of four corridors. Take the one on your right. Go all the way down the hall and you’re going to come to a set of stairs. Go up to the second floor and a little ways down the corridor you’re going to come to a set of large double doors. Knock. Wait to be called in and then present that to the man inside.” With that Seneschal Johnson returned to his pile of seemingly never ending paperwork.

Alija dotted the her face. She reread the scribbled ink words, signs of a rushed hand, and placed the quill down. She had never worked, not properly, not as a proper occupation, but this was it. Without this job, she'd barely be able to last a season in the University. She doubted that she'd have enough to last anyway, but a job was a start.

She placed the slip, along with the quill and ink, back on the desk.
"When, when do I know if I got it?" she asked, pushing the paper forward.

Tranaris regarded the young woman for a moment before accepting the form she completed. He considered it as he thought on the forges that were within the city. When it struck him he gave her a smile nodding.

Ah. Yes. You would do quite well at The Armed Scholar. Don’t mind the blacksmith there. He might be a little…odd but he has a true passion for the craft. I’m sure you’ll get along just fine.” Tranaris placed his official seal as well as his signature at the bottom of the form filing it away. With that he retrieved an additional sheet of parchment scribbling down a notice to the proprietor of the forge in question. When that was complete he signed it, folded it into an envelope then sealed it with wax. He handed it to the young woman.

Oh, try not to stare, dear.

43rd Autumn, 514AV | Altaira's Speech | NPC Speech

She took a sharp breath, and then another.

Altaira had done this kind of thing before- the application for work in a strange new city. Unlike the last, however, it was not on a mere whim that she'd taken flight, her carefree and light nature worn from seasons of toil, her light skin weathered bronze, and flowing hair in no state of decent care. She looked, through and through, much closer to the wild side of her kin than those that had mind. Thank the Gods she no longer cared.

Still, there was little mistaking the air of confidence she walked with, her shoulders relaxed and gaze always alert. It took her days before she sorted out the ways of work the first time around, she'd not make the same mistake twice; she took, perhaps, a little too much pride in herself for having learned a lesson well.

As though the city were proving a point, the reception was far finer than any of Syliras. Even with a dazzled gaze, it took not a moment for the kelvic to locate the form that needed filling, the man behind the counter giving her a slight once over and a polite gesture, a light sigh leaving smirking lips as she finally found a similarity between the two cities liked- the darned formalities were near always the same, it seemed.

With the quill and ink given, she went over the questions and answered them, as always, with the best of her abilities, her comprehension still not quite high enough that it was work done nearly quite as quick as she'd have liked.

Tranaris reviewed the application in front of him with as much interest as he did any document presented to him, which was to say he studied it carefully.

Ma’am, you would be most suited to working at the University’s Infirmary.” The portly man rummaged through the stack of papers on his desk retrieving a pristine sheet of white paper. He retrieved a vial of blue ink from within one of the drawers at his desk then proceeded to write very carefully and elegantly onto the parchment. He signed it at the bottom accompanying it with a red seal then folded it up and placed it into a blue envelope.

Mistress Claira is the Director for the Infirmary. The University maintains a stock of herbs and poultices for its medical staff and students. You should be granted access to them in the course of your duties.” He chuckled as if enjoying some private joke before handing the envelope to Altaira with a nod to send her on her way.

Fall 73rd, 514 A.V.
Location: Lord of Council's Office, Zeltiva

When she decided that it didn't look like she was going to leave Zeltiva any time soon, especially with Winter on the horizon, Ireth made up her mind that it was time to get a proper job in this unfamiliar city. She'd also decided that she'd have to ask about jobs other than busking. Ireth had no one to keep Ellemyer while she worked, so she thought it proper that she seek out a job that would allow her to bring her young daughter along with her. She'd seen some women do it before when she was meeting people in Nyka. There had been women there that were tailors or scribes that carried their children in slings across their chests while they worked, or the baby would be laid on a blanket while its mother worked.

Early in the morning, Ireth bundled little Ellemyer up in a blanket and strapped her into the cradleboard. The frame was made out of a light wood covered in green cloth. Leather straps wound around Elle's swaddled body held the child to the cradleboard, and two additional straps went behind the baby for Ireth to put her arms through in order to strap the carrier to her own body. It had been a worthy investment, Ire thought, because it allowed her arms relative freedom while still being close enough to her baby to be comfortable.

"Come on, little one. Today we're going on an adventure." Those words brought a little smile to the weary busker's face. She'd thought the same way when she'd first arrived in Nyka, young and fit and free to roam. And though she was nervous about upsetting the natives, worried because she knew nothing of the customs of these seaside folk, a little fire lit in her chest and she was excited to see Zeltiva.

The day before, she'd asked the young innkeep of the Grotto Serra Danalle, a brazen women only a few years older than Ireth herself, where one might go to procure a job. She was directed northwest.

"You need to find the Lord of Council's Office. That's where those sorts of things are sorted out. The secretary there will help ye out. But why a job? I thought you were only visiting? Ye already like Zeltiva that much?"

Ireth had just smiled down at the baby she held in her arms, thinking not about the city but about the handsome Wave Guard that had helped her find the Grotto when she'd first arrived in the city. If there were more people here as friendly and kind as he'd been, then Ireth looked forward to making friends and getting to know this city, perhaps even by letting it adopt her, seeing as she wasn't going to be able to change her location again anytime soon without the onslaught that Winter was sure to bring endangering her and her daughter. That said, however, another thought crossed Ireth's mind.

"In Nyka," the city which Ireth continued to lie was her place of origin, knowing the general disgust that surrounded the name of her beloved Ravok, "we don't have to pay for food. All people are thought to be entitled to appropriate food and drink and medicine. That isn't the way here. If I'm to continue to eat, and to live here, I'm going to need to find a way to support myself and Ellemyer. I don't have enough money to last me through the rest of the season and Winter, you know?"

Serra had nodded. "Off ye go then. Shouldn't be too difficult for ye to find, it's a huge stone building, very pretty. The secretary ain't too bad, he'll help ye out."

Once Ireth straightened little Elle out in her carrier, she strapped the child to her back and set off.

~ ~ ~

It was all Ire could do to keep her jaw from dropping when she entered the Lord of Council's Office. The stone architecture was just as stunning inside as it had been outside. She gave herself a moment to adjust to the change of temperature, it was a tad warmer in here than it had been outside in the chilling Fall. There were a few people here, their voices in hushed tones as they sat off to the side. Before her was a large wooden desk, behind of which sat a balding man. Ireth approached the desk thoughtfully, and smiled at the elder man. He had looked up when she walked in, and beckoned for her to come forward before addressing her.

"Welcome to the Lord of Council's office. How may we help you today?"

"Good morning sir. If I may, I'm here to inquire about a job?" A piece of paper was thrust in her direction, just as had been done in Nyka, and she was asked to fill it out. It was simple enough.

But then came the real question. What was it that she wanted to do in this city? She'd been a busker all her life, taking on little odd jobs here and there when the time had called for it, but now what? Ireth thought hard. Something that allowed her to bring little Elle along... Nya crossed her mind. When she'd become friends with Oire and Tynibi, Ireth spent lots of time with their young daughter Nya. She'd taken it upon herself to get the child out of her parents' shop and out of their hair, allowing them time to work without needing to also entertain her. She'd never been paid for her deeds, it had been fun, but Tynibi had thanked her a few times for allowing Nya to get the freedom young children need.

Perhaps Ireth could turn that into a career? Not a babysitter but....

Profession: Nanny/Caretaker
Wage: 4 GM, Beginning
Applicable Skills: Storytelling, Socialization, Observation, Childcare (yet to be awarded)

Ireth filled out the form and passed it back to the secretary gently, taking a step back and watching his reaction, secretly hoping that she wasn't being to vague in her paperwork.

Tranaris adopted a very kind and genuine smile as he observed the young woman and her child. As soon as the document was in his hands he nodded knowing exactly where this newcomer to the city could go. Positioning his quill pen he wrote with swift but elegant strokes jotting down an address on a separate sheet of parchment. In addition to that he wrote down a name then handed the paper to Ireth. He spoke softly not wanting to disturb that baby that accompanied her.

You’ll find direction to the Farson Home for Orphans there. Speak with Madame Thea the chief caretaker. She will see to it that you are put in order and help you any way you can.” He gave Ireth a smile.

You’re in luck. The repairs to the Home are just about finished. It’s about time the children there had a decent roof over their heads.” With that he gave her a nod returning to his seemingly never ending pile of paperwork.

Kamilla Circe Gordon

The sound of light footsteps echoed through the spacious reception area, each one bouncing around as if made by some unseen spectre with a habit for walking on walls. It had been several seasons since Kamilla had last been to The Lord of Council's Office but she was just as amazed by it's lavish appearance as she had been the first time. It wasn't just the interior of the office but the entire Old Quarter, filled with beautiful buildings that were completely alien in appearance in comparison to the ramshackles of Sunberth.

It was rather early and Kamilla was glad had to see that she wouldn't have to wait for anyone else when she arrived. Having already cheerfully greeted the old man at the desk and endured his very rehearsed response, she was currently seated in one of the comfortable chairs while filling out the Job Application Form.

Kamilla had been in Zeltiva for just under two years now and the odd minor tailoring jobs were clearly not going to cut it anymore, so she'd decided it was time to find a proper job. Her ideal job would have been one where she got paid to use her magic, but she was still far too wary to openly express her abilities, even though Zeltiva had already proven itself to be far more accepting of magic than Sunberth.

And so, as much as she hated the idea of working under someone, she had applied for a job as a tailor, the skills learnt during the first half of her life where she'd attempted to become a dressmaker like her mother were finally about to pay off.

"Here you are, Mister Johnson." she said, putting on a sweet smile in hopes that it would encourage the old man to act promptly as she handed over the completed form.

He needed a job. Mateo had been surviving on the bare minimum by picking up jobs no one wanted to do, studying ambitiously in the meantime, grasping at straws to increase his potential for revenue. It had been eight years since he landed here, and he hadn't yet been able to buy his own house or add anything to his name past a pair of simple clothing and some base necessities. Considering his ambitions and his taste for luxury, that was not nearly what he'd consider a happy life in his old home. So -- with all that in mind, he found himself at the office of the Lord of Council with a conviction to obtain a profession: law, politics, he'd wanted to become an attorney.

He'd woken up, attempted to spruce up his appearance as much as possible, then come here with a false, boisterous smile on his face and an application he'd been looming over and preparing for during the last couple of weeks. He wasn't sure at first whether he wanted to become an attorney. However, he had the necessary skills, the convictions, and previous experiences with enough unfortunate situations to understand the context of crime. After so long living a bare minimum lifestyle, however, he'd grown almost pessimistic enough to believe that he wouldn't possibly obtain this position.

Upon entering the building, he'd encountered the man who had asked him to come here, Casparian. He was a merchant attempting to regain his fortunes, led on by the belief that Mateo had once helped his great, great grandfather rise in a past life. The lie was ambitious, but most people were foolish enough to believe whatever it was that they wanted to hear at the time.

"Mateo," the man called his name. "So good to see you here. Do you have your application? I will leave a personal note if you require." He smiled slightly, though in truth he only made the Ethaefal nervous. "I won't need a note. If I were to get approved for the position, which jobs I take and which jobs I decline become my prerogative. Meaning -- I can willfully choose to fall under your employ." He relaxed his shoulders, retaining eye contact with the gentleman who'd sought him out. Casparian was . . . unique. He was a thirty year old who spoke like a fifty year old, an attractive, fit young man with the appetite of a greasy old codger, with pronounced lips that smiled almost like a sneer. This man had the potential to become a great speaker, and yet he acted like a rat waiting to claw its meal. Perhaps that was part of the issue -- a source of the decline. He did not have the appearance of one who was very trustworthy.

"You're here to speak to some commissioner or other, aren't you, Casparian?" He asked. The other man nodded, briefly revealing his document to the Ethaefal. "Yes, that is why I am here. It is good to see you before my appointment begins, however. Good luck on your hiring!" The other man bowed slightly, and Mateo returned the formality. With a brief pause and a nod to the man who may soon become his business partner, the de Leon moved himself to the proper channel and approached a man waiting for applicants. He handed the gentleman his form, thereafter stepping aside to relax himself in a seat before he'd be called again.

Oh my, yes. Madame Yvette will certain enjoy the help. She tends to find herself busier toward the Winter season. Many upstanding citizens often approach her for more fashionable attire.” Tranaris chuckled accepting Kamilla’s application. He cleared his throat penning his signature at the bottom before adding his seal to it. Retrieving another sheet of parchment he wrote out a set of instructions as well as his signature and the official seal of his office. Extending the paper to Kamilla he gave her a smile.

I assume you’re familiar with how to find the shop in question. If not I have provided instructions on how to get there. Just give that letter to Madame Yvette. I will say though that the Madame is rather particular about who works in her shop. You would do well to put on your best face.” He gave Kamilla a nod then returned to his stack of paperwork.

Tranaris looked up briefly from his paperwork only to do a double take as the Ethaefal presented his application. The seneschal blinked a few times before taking the parchment and clearing his throat. He set it down tending to a few more documents before reading over Mateo’s missive. The eyebrow that had previously been arched slid ever higher upwards into his receding hairline. He looked from the document to Mateo then back to the document before giving a small sigh.

Master de Leon?” Tranaris signaled the tall Ethaefal over.

There are just a few problems with this registry application. Firstly, while you are more than welcome to practice law in the city of Zeltiva in the private sector that would require the establishing of your own law firm. Given that there is no law firm registered to a Mateo de Leon and none of the law firms in the city are presently accepting applicants, that would require you to be in the employ of the Office of Justice.” Tranris set down the application. He folded his hands over the desk resting them atop a stack of paperwork eyeing the Ethaefal plainly.

That leaves you with a few options. You can either pursue a career as a public defense attorney, a prosecutor for the Office of Justice or establish your own law firm. The third option would require the leasing of city property. For which you can fill out this form.” He sifted through a pile of documents before selecting a single one sliding it over to Mateo.

If you do not possess the funds to build your own practice then you may also petition the city for a loan. There is a bit of a delay in that process though as funds allocated for business investments must be reviewed by the Office of the Treasury. It shouldn’t take more than a few days however.” Tranaris gave Mateo a smile awaiting his answer.
