Kuvarakh's plot notes

Postby Kuvarakh on February 23rd, 2013, 9:54 pm

Born, 16th day of Summer, 363 AV

33rd day of fall, 407 AV, Kuvarakh's daughter, Linika, is killed. His wife, Raellen, had died in childbirth.
Enrolls in university the next season. stays for 7 years.
64th day of winter, 415, endures the ritual to become a Nuit. works for first master in Zeltiva.
In early summer of 420, kills his master when he is vulnerable during a body transfer ritual.
The maledictor, his 2nd Zeltivan master, teaches him the rudiments of Hypnosis. spends 2 years learning.
In 422, Kuvarakh leaves for Riverfall and spends 5 years there.
427, returns to Zeltiva, liquidates his assets, and begins his journeys across Mizahar. He heads north to Nyka, but finds that the Monks of Xannos have a stranglehold on the practice of any world magic, so he presses on to Ravok.
In Winter of 430, he is taken in as an apprentice again, by a Ravokian Master worthy of the title. This man encourages him to make covert searches of his rival mages' libraries and even loans items to Kuvarakh to aid in his break-ins, provided he bring back occasional tidbits from his rival’s stores. During one such adventure, Kuvarakh is afflicted by a backlash of enhanced alchemical effects, turning him to stone. A year later he "thaws" to find that his master had taken steps to secure his body against destruction. But, he has been replaced by a new apprentice. He takes his thankful and respectful leave of this master, travelling Mizahar, and praying to Akajia for guidance.
In 449, he returns to Zeltiva to find his old Maledictor friend has died. He wanders a while, in a crushing depression.
In 456 he makes his way to Mura, hoping to find a rebirth of purpose. The death of Trask hit him harder than he realized.
In spring of 463, he travels to Sultros, arriving in the summer. He seeks to make a deal where he will investigate contaminated sites of possible lost clans in exchange for a marked item of extra endurance for alchemy purposes. Things go horribly wrong, but resolve well.
In 503, he makes a brief visit to Syliras, but finds himself under such scrutiny as to make him second guess his welcome. He pays a fare to leave on a Svefra ship. This ship answers a Nal'lyeo call to aid against pirates and the ship he is on is damaged and makes landfall on the north shore of Cyphrus. After some initial difficulty, he makes himself welcome there, but eventually feels the call to move on. He gets a ride to God's Eye Point, where he has a vision of a temple with a bright Golden Dome. He learns that this is Alvadas, and the Temple of Ionu.
He finds his way to Alvadas in the Summer of 510, where he believes the rumored friendship of Ionu and Akajia will help facilitate the contact he craves. It has now been 150 years since his human birth, 106 years since his daughter’s death and 99 since his Nuit transformation.

Kuvarakh arrayed the founts with the long handles in three of the chargers, and one of the bones in the fourth. That would emphasize the length quality, while still keeping hold of the bone shape and look. Then he put a simple non-descript chunk of wood in the filter, to further prevent the look of the wood from being transferred, since there were more wood chargers than bone.

He knew he needed emphasis on the length quality, which was why he used more of the wooden poles than the bones in his chargers. He would rely on his skill and experience to focus on that quality as he performed the activation. Lastly, he put half the bones into the center of the ring, where they would receive the benefit of the alchemical change of length.

Kuvarakh's plot notes

Rayage History:

"To answer your first question, I wasnt in Zeltiva during the Stone Body study. I was in Ravok.
From 400 to 448 I was in Zeltiva, from 450 to 470 I was in Lhavit, 471 to 491 I was in Alvadas, 492 to 500 I was in Riverfall. Then I jump around to Syliras for a year, back to Ravok, then to Sunberth, and finally to Sahova where I started my PC."
- Rayage

The quality of a tapestry depends mainly on four variable factors: the quality of the cartoon from which it is copied: the skill of the weavers at translating the design into woven form; the fineness of the weave (the number of warps per centimeter and the grade of the weft, which directly affect the precision of detail and pictorial quality of the tapestry); and the quality of the materials from which it is made. In the late Middle Ages and the Renaissance, the cost of a tapestry varied enormously in direct proportion to its quality. One of the key factors was the manpower involved. Production was a labor-intensive process requiring the participation of many skilled weavers for the execution of large tapestries. On the basis of both modern practice and documented production, it is generally estimated that weavers could produce up to one square yard of coarse tapestry per month. Higher-quality production, with a finer warp and weft count, was much slower, yielding perhaps half a square yard or less per month. A large tapestry, five yards high by eight yards wide, woven in wool alone, with a warp count of approximately fifteen per inch, would have taken five weavers some eight months or so to weave. If finer materials were used, resulting in a higher warp count, it could take much longer. Production of a set of six five-by-eight-yard tapestries would therefore have necessitated the equivalent of thirty weavers over a period of between eight and sixteen months, excluding the cost and time involved in the design and preparation of the cartoons and the setting up of the looms.

An even more significant factor than labor in determining the cost of a tapestry was the material from which it was made. Wool, generally from England (2009.280) or Spain, was the principal material used for warps and most of the weft. Finer-quality pieces also incorporated silk (from Italy or Spain), and the finest included silver- and gilt-metal-wrapped silk thread (from Venice or Cyprus). Documents relating to the levy charged for different grades of tapestry imported to England during the first half of the sixteenth century indicate that tapestry woven with silk cost four times more than that woven with coarse wool. The inclusion of metallic thread increased the cost by a factor of twenty over tapestry woven with coarse wool alone. While such valuations are general and the prices would have been dependent on the circumstances in which tapestries were made and sold, documentary evidence confirms the extreme variation of price.

Kuvarakh's plot notes

Regarding "Defense Against Hypnosis"

I have in mind several points to touch on. My basic approach will be "The Four 'A's": Anticipate, Alert, Action, Analysis.

Anticipate: Things to look for, or situations that may precede an attempt against you.

Alert: The actual signs that an attempt is being made. (open door effect)

Action: Things to do that can interrupt the attempt without being obvious that you suspect. (spider, stop, thief)

Analysis: Reviewing the aftermath of a suspected attempt...Did someone gain something that can't be explained? Do you find yourself with a point of view that you can't reconcile with yourself?

ALVADAS CITY MAP

The blessings of Alvadas' patron deity, Ionu, again make illusion a reality!

In this case, the illusion is the idea that any map could ever be made that could truly help visitors, or even citizens, find their way around the ever-shifting layout of Alvadas' street plan. But miracles DO happen, albeit for considerable cost.

The Temple of Ionu has announced the development of a map that is graced by the divine understanding of Ionu himself...herself? And for a cost of only two hundred gold mizas, payable to the Temple, this wonder can be yours. Is that too much to pay to always know which direction you need to go to find your destination, in a city where this changes off and on throughout the day?

Now, it is important to understand that this is not immunity from the illusions with which Ionu scrambles the reality of the city's buildings, streets, parks, scenery...and hazards. But it gives the owner a decided edge in avoiding any temporarily undesired features. As the city changes, so does the map. When a new reshuffling occurs, the map becomes momentarily blank, only to fill in upon completion, rendering an accurate depiction of the most recent new layout.

One need only touch the spot on the map where their destination lies, and this location will be highlighted at every change, allowing for quick and sure adjustment of the path one takes, until they reach their destination, free of confusion. Once reached, the alignment of the physical location of the map with the highlighted destination clears the effect of the maps amazing ability, freeing it up for the next choice.

It is equally important to understand that the map stops working when one leaves the confines of the city proper. But you may be assured that it will begin working again at the next shuffling after reentering. One need only wait at any of Alvadas' beautiful locations. There is always one nearby, regardless of the current layout

So, visit the Temple, and get one of these remarkable works of mystery and art today.

Announcement!

My fellow Alvads! It is a time of celebration!
That most endearing of locals, Phobius, is celebrating his birthday this season.
Let's raise a toast and a party in his honor.

I further extend this offer to bring joy to the less fortunate...The poor...the abandoned.
Let us let THEM know that they are not forgotten!

I speak, of course, of the poor children housed in The Ornery Orphanage.
I propose an open invitation, to bring some joy into their lives. It could be held sometime this season within the peaceful splendor of one of Ionu's enchanting parks.

Many of you have talents that would make these poor children forget the woe that encompasses their daily existence.
Zeke and Vard, perhaps a musical duet of Lute and Ocarina.
Aislyn, some quick sketches for them to bring home to fortify the fond memory of this special day. Or some balloon painting.

Phobius, guest of honor, perhaps a demonstration of Falconry.

Many of you possess Acrobatic skills. These could equate to tumbling or gymnastic competitions. Even embarrassingly failed attempts could be claimed as "comedy" to salvage your dignity.
I expect this will be MY contribution. ;)
The same could be true of displays of weapon prowess.
Naia, maybe some tales of the high seas.
Nethys, perhaps a "strongman" display.
Rey, perhaps you could be persuaded not to EAT any of the orphans. ;)
Horse rides, games, races.

And of course...Prizes! (This will be MY other contribution)

I leave it up to you to consider what else you might find to contribute.
Do not feel limited to MY notions alone!

Give it some thought. There is plenty of time to work out details.

35th Day of Summer, 514

Kuvarakh waited for Phobius to arrive. He did not always have a task for him, but he should be arriving soon. He had been about as prompt as could be expected, considering his lack of experience with Ionu's mischief in the random shuffling pf the town's street plan. Kuvarakh corrected himself. It was not just the layout of the buildings, it was the color of the sky, the texture of the materials, the very gravity of the environment that could not be taken for granted. For all Kuvarakh knew, Phobius may have awoken this morning in a tree, growing upside down into a lake.

Morning had passed into the heat of midday with no sign of the returning party. Kuvarakh brooded about how much to tell Rana. He hated the thought of being less than completely honest with her, but needed her ability to guide "Mr. Ekans" into the bowels of The Underground.

The Svefra girl nearly made Verek lose his focus with her insulting invitation. But he shucked aside his anger with the satisfaction that she was so brazen.
