Built into the cliffs overlooking the Suvan Sea, Riverfall resides on the edge of grasslands of Cyphrus where the Bluevein River plunges off the plain and cascades down to the inland sea below. Home of the Akalak, Riverfall is a self-supporting city populated by devoted warriors. [Riverfall Codex]

The sky was dark and to a newcommer, it would seem much of the city was dead. There had been a reprieve from the festivities as many retreated home to eat, but by the time the sun had set, the entire city had descended upon the docks, which were lit up clear as day. The wide wooden docks had been reinforced days beforehand to withstand the weight of so many people, and the most majestic of ships were docked around the main pier. Lanterns were strung in lines overhead between the ships, and on the decks, musicians played to the partiers below. The ship at the far end of the pier had been decorated as well, though none stood on its stage. Two lists on large pieces of parchment had been posted on the side of the ship, for those on the pier to read. They detailed the list of prizes the King, Queen, and Ladies of Beautyfest stood to win. There was a perpetual litany of viewers in front of the list, many ladies bickering about what prize they would claim.

Servers with trays of food meandered through the crowd, wearing the ornate embroidered CR of the Crystal Rose restaurant. Stalls with all forms of alcohol were also set up at periodic intervals along the main pier, with every tavern and bar in town represented. While the drinks were at a discount from what may be seen in the taverns themselves, enterprising women would be able to score a free drink with some well-placed flirting with the bartenders.

The nearby beach was dark save for the occasional torch, but the sand dunes were populated by amorous couples, seeking some alone time amidst the dark sands. The limited number of unlucky Kuvay'nas on duty for the night patrolled the streets, looking for any ill-spirited souls attempting to take advantage of the nearly-empty city.

On the fringes of the crowd at the docks, there was some mild discontent, and rumors spread quickly through the party that the five 'raid women', as they had come to be known, had arrived and were stirring trouble. The women had been rescued from the Zith raid earlier in the season, and after making a very public denouncement of the Nakivak system they had been 'encouraged' to join, a spree of discontent and mild vandalism throughout the season had been linked to the women. While early in the season, many people resonated with their message, which called for the abolishment of the Nakivak system, their extremist attitudes towards the men of the city and even current Nakivaks had caused many to steer clear.

However, they remained at the edge of the party, away from the main spectacle and the majority of the party-goers did not acknowledge them beyond the simple rumors that they had arrived.

The party was purely adult-oriented with plenty of alcohol, suggestive dancing, and more than a little love going around, and children were strongly discouraged from attending.

OOC Notes :
Drink, mingle, and be merry! Any and all are welcome in this thread, though the rules of bead-giving still apply. Remember, the current bead-count is at the bottom of the signup post.

King and Queen of Beautyfest will be announced November 20th. Any bead giving done after that announcement post, even to women who did not get first place, will not count towards the final counts.

Men: If you're eligible to give beads and haven't yet, I'll be messaging you soon to find out which lucky lady you'd like to give your beads to.

Ladies: If you're competing, you can still get beads, right up to the announcement date. So if you'd like to move up in rank, now's the time! I'll be messaging each of you to find out your votes for King.

[Beautyfest] Party on the Pier

Uleru turns this way and that on the sandy beach, studying herself in the rippling surface of the dark water. This is the year, she tells herself, that she'll join in instead of watching from the sidelines. And like every woman on this most elaborate of festivals, she must spruce herself up before she sweeps dramatically into the fray. Though her version of sprucing up is not quite the same.

Her hair had been the hardest part to manage. She'd tried to mould it into curls and ringlets, but every attempt hung limp and deflated on her back. She'd tried tying it up herself with a stolen ribbon, but then it simply became too heavy no matter how many times she’d tried to thin it. In a last and desperate attempt she’d tried to mould it into shape straight out of her head. And much to her surprise it worked rather well. It took time to perfect, but eventually she managed a simple, elegant chignon to appear magically out of the back of her head- no ribbons required.

And she has exchanged her much loved and comfortable body shape for something a bit more festive. This change came easier, and before long she was pushing and kneading her body into a pleasing appearance. Though when she stepped back out of the water to eye her progress she nearly threw back her head and laughed at what she realized what she was doing. Every new feature on her body has been borrowed from the best features of the women she knows. She recognizes Teresa's long legs, Sybel's smooth torso, Dust's feminine bones on her back, collar and cheeks, Krisi's wide, expressive eyes and Malla's shapely lips. And each of these new additions blended so seamlessly with each other its as if a jigsaw had been shaken into place. She's definitely beautiful now. Maybe not perfect, but perfection can be given a cheery wave from where she's standing. The thought makes her smile.

The Otani cant help but sigh with a vain pleasure as she rotates on the spot. Her phosphorescence has begun its shine now that the twilight is giving way to the gathering dark. She's made sure to spend plenty of time in the sun today, so she is sure this effect will last all night. She takes a second to infuse herself with a soft, pleasing gold to finish off her new body. The sand around her glitters with the soft, candle-like glow the color produces.

And lastly, she pads further up the beach to retrieve the wide purple scarf she had left out to dry. While it’s not much it is her only piece of clothing, and it would be a shame to go without. Shaking out the stray grains of sand the Otani opens the garment and slings it around her hips like a sarong, securing it with a simple knot.

Finally she is ready. And Uleru is almost skipping with enthusiasm as she dives back into the water.

In a few chimes the dock comes into view, lined with brilliant lanterns and open flames. She can see women in dresses of every shade dancing merrily with the adoring men. The colors are astounding, so she has to concentrate as not to have these distractions seep into her carefully prepared color.

It's only when she pulls herself onto the dock, an excited smile already on her lips, that the contrast between herself and these lovely, whirling figures in silk and taffeta become apparent. And despite all the effort, taking herself apart and putting herself back together wearing the features of other women, the styled hair that sits like a tumor on the back of her head, and the false color infused through her body like a stain, she is still horribly insubstantial compared to the real thing. Like a child playing dress up, a cheap copy.

No, stop it, she orders herself severely, standing a little taller. 'This is a party, don't ruin it for yourself. The ocean will forgive you for wanting a human moment.

Bouncing back from this derailed thought she stands awkwardly off to the side of the dancing couples, her heels hanging over the edge of the dock in an effort to stay out of their way. And in the space left behind from the thought she's gouged out she finds herself thinking that she might want to dance too. It doesn’t look too hard, some of the couples are just revolving on the spot like they are dancing on a pie plate. Uleru holds her arms out in front of her experimentally to mimic a young human woman who is gazing at her dancing partner with cheezy adoration. No, that wouldn’t be hard.

The chances of someone asking an Otani to dance though is laughable, much to her dismay. But if she is convincing and proactive enough maybe she can find one herself. So with this task firmly in mind, she edges into the crowd to find herself a partner.

[Beautyfest] Party on the Pier

Postby Favchean Hronis on November 2nd, 2013, 7:52 pm

Today had been a whirl wind for Favchean, the bead giving, the moving among the tents as the women of the city pampered themselves. He was able to meet new people and even admire several of the ladies. He in particular enjoyed this festival, not because he was super suave with the ladies but simply because he enjoyed watching them pamper themselves. Women, for Favchean, were always a part mystery, part enigma and fully wondrous creature. Men might be stronger and bigger, but women trumped all with the ability to give life.

About the only women that Favchean had ever met that he found entirely selfish, greedy and ignorant were the raid survivors. He tried to understand where they were coming from, it had to be traumatic to have been taken captive by the Zith. However the longer they caused trouble the more annoyed Favchean grew. The Nakivak was a time honored tradition, and the women of the Nakivak deserved the utmost respect, for these others to demean their services..even thinking about it caused the Akalak to growl under his breath and to remember his discipline. Not often can someone make him have to actually remember his control and these trouble making women seemed to do so easily. Ungrateful, did they not know what fate they would have suffered had he and his breather with even the help of some smaller humans had not rescued them?

Sighing, the Akalak pushed his way into the crowd, casting his pale blue eyes across the myriad of faces. He had not brought a date for the evening, much to his mother's distress and his father's disproving frown, but he did not intend to be alone all evening. Perhaps he should take Kavala up on her offer to come up to the sanctuary.

His clothing was his normal attire, what worked in the smithy would also work on the dance floor in his mind. Simple leather breeches scarred and faded but still presentable. His vest was also leather, and laced tight over his massive chest. What he lacked in height -for an Akalak- he more then made up for in the muscled mass of his chest, arms and legs. He might never win a beauty contest, but he did cut a strong figure.

Though..he hoped he would not be roped into dancing. The only dances he knew were with daggers.

[Beautyfest] Party on the Pier

Postby Davus on November 2nd, 2013, 10:30 pm

Dressed in his usual attire, a light white cotton top that flowed with each movement he made, with loose brown cotton trousers and leather boots it seemed very unstated compared to other outfits people were adorned in, in truth the only thing he had done was wash his clothes which to most would not be considered much of an effort but he had even taken to washing the bandage the was strapped across his left eye like that would make a difference. Nonetheless, Davus meandered through the crowd or more truthfully, stumbled through the crowd. He always knew how to celebrate a festival as he brought the empty bottle to his lips, unaware each time he did so that no ale would flow out from it, before bringing it down and breaking out in a drunken song

"Now a wife can be a good looker.
In the kitchen she can be
a good cooker.
But looks can get old and
prepared food is sold
So, all I need is an
occasional hoo-"

His song was cut short when he spotted the most beautiful woman glowing like gold across the dock, her entire body seemed to radiant a shine that only the sunrise could hope to match. Every part of her face seemed to flow seamlessly together as if Rhaus himself had described her in a song, she looked almost confused amongst the dancers yet that made her seem more attractive if it was possible, the touch of humanity on such a flawless figure much her seem more human, not as if she was out of a dream. He attempted to wade his way through the dancer to get a closer look, but as soon as he delved into the throng he was knocked to the floor by a pair of dancers. He struggled to get to his feet quick enough to find out where she went but only glimpsed a flash of purple as he finally stood up.

Shrugging to himself he made his way back out of the dance, at the right time too as several dancers were starting to complain about this drunk man interrupting their dancing and spoiling the atmosphere for what they had planned to do next. "Get us another bottle mate" He slurred to merchant at one of the numerous stalls as he handed over some silver.
"Did here about those rescued women? They are kicking up fuss about treatment of women in this city" The merchant said as he handed over the bottle
"Typical, the get rescued by the bloody city then complain about it. I doubt they would be happy if we let those Zith take them"
"That is just women for you. Have a good time now"
"You too my friend, you too"
He replied as he bit of the cork on the bottle and spat it out on the floor before taking a deep draught from the bottle. He was in a good mood tonight, Riverfall had been kind to him providing him with plenty of drink, rest and even a few lesson in life. Shame that he was leaving at the end of this season but that was his life, so this night he was determined to find someone to enjoy his time with.

He wandered into a group of young women, who would giggle and blush at any young man who passed the group inviting them closer but in a group on a night like this the women became more daunting than ever, but with a bottle of liquid courage in his hands he felt confident enough to approach them . Each one was dressed up as an element; fire, water, earth and air. Each one was just as attractive as the next and not one could have been older than twenty five years this old. "Ok, which one of you will be lucky enough to come back to my boat with me?" He asked, in his opinion, seductively; all that he received was laughter as the gaggle moved away from him with words old and drunk being thrown around. Unfazed by this setback he continued to circulate the docks until a woman approached him. While not unattractive it was hard to tell what see actually looked like, her face was so heavily laden with make up her face had no discernible features. "How about we dance and see where it goes?" she said with a cheeky wink.
"Listen love" Davus said emphatically "You can dress up mutton anyway you want, it still isn't gonna be lamb" All Davus remembered after saying that was the loudest crack followed by an eruption of blinding pain as she slapped the side of his face
"And I suppose you think you're some lucky catch do ya? You need to take a look in the mirror, you ain't getting any younger" She shouted at him before marching off into the crowd.
Davus staggered to end of the docks and sat on the edge looking down on the water below. If it was a mirror he would have smashed it then and there but the water didn't lie, and despite the ripples he was seeing himself more clearly than ever. He had become old, only thirty three summers he had seen and yet they had burdened him more than most "By Laviku" He muttered softly to himself "What has happened to me?"

"Please dance with me."

The Otani has both palms up and held out to offer them to the young Dykras lad. And though she is smiling jovially her voice has a strange mechanical quality to it, like she's said it a hundred times. Which is quite accurate.

The man turns away from his peers to see who is being so bold as to ask. And the moulding can see each emotion as it flickers across his face in that half-second: cheeky elation, amazement, realization, and finally the shutdown. First so thrilled to be asked by a stranger, then amazement at discovering the stranger is glowing and transparent, the realization as he recognizes that this is not a person but a creature, and the shutdown as he tries to pretend that he doesn't see or hear the creature. It is becoming a very typical response.

It's as if she is asking something incredibly rude, or telling them to fuck themselves without provocation. People turn away and pretend in an effort to make themselves unnoticeable, hoping she'll just go away. All she wants is a dance!

It's too late, he's already turned back to his group and taking a swig out of his bottle. That's another thing. Nobody has actually told her 'no'.

She stands there stupidly for another second with her arms out before giving up with a sigh. She's asked most of the men, even a handful of women, and has yet to secure herself a single dance. Or even a simple companion. This is doing dreadful things to her self esteem, which she can feel withering away like a starfish in the sun. Maybe she should try to drink instead, she thinks as she eyes the vendors. But she didn't bring money, and her flirting is not exactly up to par.

The conversation at the drink vendors is quite colourful though, as they toss around words like vandalism, raids and Nakivak. Maybe she should give up her quest and join them. She would feel more involved in the world above the waves if she knew what was going on in it.

But her feet carried her on, skirting on the edge of the festivities and ducking the occasional lantern, until she reaches the end on the dock, and the beginning of her watery world. She's not ready to go back yet though, and the Otani is just about to turn right around an head back into the fray when she sees a figure slumped at the edge of the lantern light. Well, she feels him before she sees him, as his gnosis mark beats in the air between them like a living thing. Even from where she is standing she can smell the spirits wafting from him like a dour vapour. From his strong back and his sandy brown hair she assumes he is handsome, but the way he sits makes her think he may have let himself go slightly to seed.

His arms twisted in a sad knot and the slump of his shoulders compels her to comfort him somehow. Her fathers bright and free people were not meant to look that way. And it seems this poor sailor is her last option for company.

Steeling herself she pads up behind him, illuminating his very tall back. Hands out and palms up she asks for the last time: "Please dance with me."

There is a pause then as he turns, possibly to bring her into focus, and her steely reinforcements come undone. If the lone, sad and drunk sailor refuses her she doubts her poor battered pride will survive. She'll go live at the bottom of the sea with the angler fish and squid for company then, and think about these beautiful human creatures only as a stupid passing fancy she had a long time ago. She cant help the inward snort of sardonic amusement.

"Please dance with me", she repeats, smiling tightly, "or I will kick you off this dock."

[Beautyfest] Party on the Pier

Postby Jorin Ertihan on November 3rd, 2013, 1:22 pm

Image
Neither Kirsi nor Rinya had arrived yet, which Jorin was secretly grateful for. Not that he was unhappy to see either women; Kirsi was a very dear friend and Rinya was the love of his life. But if Kirsi was here, he wouldn't be able to simply explore, as he needed to be conscientious of her needs. And if Rinya were here, so would Rhys be, and the thought alone set Jorin's teeth on edge. As much as he loved seeing Rinya, especially in her beautiful new dress, he wasn't looking forward to seeing her on Rhys' arm.

In the meantime, it seemed he arrived ahead of both women. Rinya, he knew, would be a bit late as apparently Rhys wanted her to primp up before getting to the main party. Jorin snorted to himself at that thought. He would never ask Rinya to do such a thing, he thought she was beautiful just the way she was. He had no idea where Kirsi was, but he assumed she'd come along when she was ready.

The conversation filtering to Jorin's ears was mainly about the captured women from the Zith raids. Jorin hated that topic of conversation. Whether a woman wants to carry a child should be her choice, especially if, as apparently was the case, human women ran significant risk carrying an Akalak baby. Though, it was quite possible he was biased in his opinion, having known what his bondmate's fate would've been if she hadn't bonded to him.

Deciding not to contribute, Jorin continued to stride forward, his fancy costume "borrowed" from the amphitheater quite grand and appropriate for such a venue, the silk cape billowing whenever an ocean breeze swung by. As he walked past the main area to the dock. Normally, Jorin would turn back, but he heard a very familiar voice emanating from an unfamiliar form. Was that...?

"Please dance with me... or I will kick you off this dock."

Jorin chuckled quietly. Uleru. That could only be Uleru. Cutting in smoothly, Jorin called out, "No need for that. I will dance with you, my lady!" in his most dramatic voice.

After all, she seemed so sad to have not convinced anyone to dance with her. He supposed... most people would be a bit put off by a glowing and transparent person dancing with them. But this was Uleru, a good friend. Although...

"Weren't you at the top of the waterfall?" Jorin asked, eyebrow raised in curiosity. "How did you get back down here?"

[Beautyfest] Party on the Pier

Postby Davus on November 3rd, 2013, 2:56 pm

The party was just getting started, the music was getting louder, the drink was flowing faster and the dancing was becoming more intimate with every new arrival. The atmosphere was intoxicating, on this night of all nights people would act so unlike themselves it would appear as if another personality had taken over, shy man were approaching women they would never dare dream of talking too, while these women were enjoying the company of men they would never even think about until tonight. This applied to everyone bar the lone figure sitting on the edge of docks.

A sudden realization of a hard truth it seems drains the joy out of a person quicker than drink can fill it back up, not that it stopped Davus from trying as took another deep gulp from his emptying bottle. He had never felt as lonely in the past fifteen years as he did now, even his tavan wasn't there as he sat alone. Far off into the dark sea he could see him sitting on the water's surface huddle up with another bird. Despite the roaring crowd and the witty songs he could hear, or at least pretended to hear none of it as he slowly sung to himself, his voice coarse as the rocky cliffs that surrounded him and as grating as the sand beneath the waves

"I must go down to the seas again, to the vagrant gypsy life,
To the gull’s way and the whale’s way, where the wind’s like a whetted knife;
And all I ask is a merry yarn from a laughing fellow-rover,
And quiet sleep and a sweet dream when the long trick’s over."

A voice called out from behind him "Please dance with me... or I will kick you off this dock." He turned his head to see where the voice came from but he turned his head sharply back to the sea.

"You might as well" He cursed "It's where I belong, with my family" He sighed deeply like his thoughts weighed down upon him like a mountain weighs down on the earth beneath it "You never think it is goin' to happen y'know, you think for some reason you are the exception to the bloody rule" He whispered softly, growing louder with each remark "Like you are so special and unique that time would make you an exception" He nearly shouted that last line out as he chucked his half empty bottle out in sea before resting his head in his hands, staring at his face in water through the gaps in between his fingers "I still remember when that face I look at in water had no scars, when the wrinkles were nonexistent and didn't have to wear the bloody bandage in case it scared people. My point is, you sound young and you may look like it but it won't last, that is bloody truth of life that every human has to come to terms with. What do these Akalaks know about beauty, we are so fleeting to them so they don't even acknowledge us, they don't see us age and wither because to them we live and die so quickly they won't even remember us"

"No need for that. I will dance with you, my lady!"
A new voice interjected. That comment made him sound like a prick to Davus but his heart was in the right place and he was thankful for that.
"You young 'uns should go have some fun, don't let this washed up sailor ruin your youth. A man doesn't burden others with his troubles; they are his to carry and his alone. Now be off with both of you, there are songs to be sung and dances to be dance and I ain't goin' to be the one to keep you from them" He said ignoring them as he pulled out a pouch of weed and a pipe from his pockets and packed the dried weed into the chamber of the pipe. He then lit a single splint from one of the lanterns, watching it flicker and glow as it fought for life before he stuck it into the chamber of the pipe. The flame extinguished itself immediately as it attempted to set the weed alight only to make it smoulder and smoke. He brought the tip of the pipe to his mouth, sucking on it gently as the smoke seemed to flow into his mouth and there he held it, relishing in the dusty, sour taste of the smoke before resuming his song, each word he spoke let the smoke escape into the wind and it made his mouth dry up, turning his voice into a croaky whisper.

"I must go down to the seas again, to the lonely sea and the sky,
And all I ask is a tall ship and a star to steer her by,
And the wheel’s kick and the wind’s song and the white sail’s shaking,
And a gray mist on the sea’s face, and a gray dawn breaking."

The Spa was refreshing for her. She was ready for the contest. She wished to win, she really did. But showing herself, that she was here also was the main reason for her. The contest' feelings were inside her. The Sun was going down and was changing role with the Moon. At The Pearl House she was watching herself in her symenestra form at the mirror.

When she changed to her celestial form. Her yellow horns came out, her eyes' colors didn't change that much, but her hair wasn't white now. Her skin wasn't sickly pale. Her body has changed a bit too. Her breasts, her hip, they were more fitting to her dress. Then she turned away from the mirror. She left the House and went to the festival.

The closer she was walking, the more of her winning dream was fading. Her mind was in a calmer state now. She wasn't even sure if it's important to participate in the contest. But she threw out that thought quickly. She started it she will finish it. Changing body meant changing her personality and her mental state. It was frustrating sometimes. But she was the daughter of the god of change, it's inevitable.

When she has arrived the festival was long going on. Everyone was having fun, everyone found what they wanted to do. Some familiar faces were there also. Eida wasn't sure where to go or what to do. First she was checking also the prizes. Kelvic clothing bag, obviously not... it reminded her about Arckhebohn. Kalinor's silk, Mooncloak, money, massage. She wasn't sure what to choose, it would just had given her a headache. And other women were also checking it and she left from that group.

Dancing, love, talking were everywhere. Eida didn't feel she was fitting to either group. She was staying out. She took a glass of wine. She wasn't thirsty though. She just had to hold something... she had to do something, she felt uncomfortable in the crowd. She liked the taste of the wine and was slowly drinking once. She was standing out, watching others and was holding a glass of wine between her hands.

[Beautyfest] Party on the Pier

Postby Kirsi Winterflame on November 4th, 2013, 2:18 am

Image
Slightly nervous hands smoothed imaginary wrinkles from the front of her dress; the deep green of her skirt making a pleasant swishing noise as the material brushed against itself. Was it fancy enough? Was her hair stylish enough? Had she gone too over the top with her make up? A surreptitious glance at some of the other celebrants showed dresses, make up and hairstyles in all manner of fancy - and fanciful - design, and Kirsi allowed herself a small sigh of relief.

Though her visit to the make up tent had been brief, while there the Vantha had elected to apply her own colors. Realizing almost immediately that she lacked the skill to dramatically enhance her own features, she'd chosen instead to draw on her skin, employing pencils and powders to create the illusion of a veil. The effect of the blue and green colors she'd used was delicate; lacy-looking creations drifted across the right side of her forehead, graced her neck and trailed over the bare skin of her left shoulder.

It wasn't a direction most of the women here had chosen to go.

Still, some had been equally dramatic in other ways, and so Kirsi faked a confidence she was momentarily lacking and looked around for her 'date'. Spotting him in the distance, she wound her way through the throng of people. As she moved closer, Kirsi took the time to inspect Jorin's companions, a man and a woman. The man sat, bandaged, and looking none-too-happy. The woman was beautiful, watery... Uleru?

Kirsi vaguely remembered the Otani was a mutual acquaintance, and she was pleased to see her again. Approaching the trio, Kirsi pasted a bright smile to her face and lifted her hand in greeting. "Hello! Quite a crowd here already, isn't there?"

Now that she'd made her way over, Kirsi discovered her hard-won confidence was a bit difficult to hang onto. Barely, through sheer force of will, she managed not to pat her make up or smooth her hair, opting instead for chatter.

"Uleru, is that you? You look lovely!" And it was true; the Otani looked different than Kirsi remembered, and oddly familiar at the same time.

I suppose if you were made of water, you might be able to look any way you wanted, too, she thought wryly.

"You might as well", the sailor curses callously.

Ah well, the moulding sighs regretfully as her confidence hits rock bottom with a nearly audible crack, at least I wont have to ask the deep sea squid to dance.

"It's where I belong, with my family."

Oh. The rejection seems to turn right back around and stab the man through the heart. His spiel isn't for her, he seems to be venting to the water. His voice rising to a croaky roar as he flings his bottle to the sea like he wishes to do it harm.

Then Jorin arrives. The sight of the self deprecated, drunken sailor ranting for life at the edge of nowhere makes the sight of the gaily dressed, jovially pompous actor almost comical in its contrast.

No need for that. I will dance with you my lady!

Oh Jorin. Her heart swells and buoys her damaged pride with his request. She takes his hand in her cold one in a friendly gesture, smiling with gratitude, but turns to the sailor. She speak in Fratava to him not to exclude Jorin, but to offer the sailor some privacy.

"I am young. And I have been young for a very, very long time" she says, unconsciously testing out the Svefra's rough accent. "To me you all crawl across the skin of the world like flies and die faster than I can know you. And despite all the friends I've lost to your fragility I keep coming back to know you more and have my heart broken again. Because you are beautiful creatures. And even if the time is brief it's worth it. The same same should apply to your family", she says harshly, familiar and long-lost faces flashing unbidden in front of her eyes.

But she blinks hard, wiping these unwelcome distractions from her mind. Her fickle attention frees itself from this dour man and latches itself on her softhearted companion beside her. Her face brightens instantly as she switches back to Common as if it never happened.

"The waterfall? I jumped it of course. I just returned from the Bluevein about a week ago and threw myself over. Absolutely terrifying that was. Couldn't hold a coherent shape for a solid bell", she smiles at the memory.

"And don't you look handsome my friend. Where is your date? I don't believe for a second that you managed to come here alone!"

As if on cue, a very small, olive toned woman in green winds through the last of the crowd and comes straight for them. It takes a long moment to place her, but when she does her eyes (or really, Kisri's borrowed eyes) pop wide open.

"Winter girl? Oh you look like a dream!" she laughs jovially, letting go of Jorin and taking Kirsi's hands in both of hers she swings the much smaller woman around in a tight circle, making her dress flare beautifully. The delicate veil almost looks real in the flickering light. Done with such a fine hand that only Kirsi could have achieved it.

"Thank you for the dance Jorin, I will definitely collect on that offer later! But I cant capitalize on such a prize when your girl is here. Go on, I'll catch up." She lets go of the Vantha and winks conspiratorially at Jorin. Then she pads back to the drunken sailor, the glow of her bolstered spirits only seems to make her body shine brighter.

"I'm still young, you can say, but my youth was over a long time ago." She says as if in explanation, before collapsing cross-legged on the dock beside him uninvited.
