Bit of a lore question - sorry for the wall of text!
In the
Player Guide (under monetary system), it describes Chiet as getting "
two days off in every ten". For Avora, it describes "
two days off after every seven", while Endals have "
five on and take two off". Over in the location thread for The Market Place though, it states that "
After a grueling eight day work week, the progress in Wind Reach shifts as days nine and ten are spent in eager anticipation and preparation of the Market."
The Player Guide makes it sound like Chiet have two days off "at some point" in that week (can vary from week to week, like a shift-worker), but that Avora and Endal definitely have a specific "weekend" - they two days off, and those two days are together. What seems odd about that is that the Avora, many of whom make wares to be sold at the market, don't match that same ten day "week" that the markets do.
Rather than explain with words, I've done a little chart thingy on GoogleDocs:
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1jEJlzhpVBSXhp1D3HZU-axS2hCyRVt4w87y4IWdDw5w/pubhtmlThe red/yellow represents the "ten day week" described in the Market Place (or alternatively, it represents a Chiet, if Chiet have a mandatory two-day weekend); the green represents the work days for an Avora (days off are lighter), and I've staggered them to show what would happen if an Avora's 90-day work cycle started on a different day of the season.
As you can see, the Avora only get a day off on a market day twice each season, and they happen on consecutive "weeks" - great if you're an artisan, and being at the market counts as "work"; not so great if you're a hunter and have to wait nearly an entire season to go shopping again. Also, unless your Avora work cycle starts within one day of someone else's (ie. day before, same day, day after), you can see that it's impossible to have the same day off. Also, if Chiet have mandatory weekends to match up with the Market Place (ie. Chiet "week" = Market "week")... the numbers written in are a tally of the four days each season that an Avora and Chiet would have off at the same time (which is ominous for Khara/Zhol and Drusilla/Brandon interactions).
To boil it down into actual answerable questions: is this correct / what was intended? Should we be doing "day off" threads rarely, and/or swapping shifts with NPCs to facilitate them? Or, is the system supposed to be more flexible, and it's the lore pages that are squiffy?
