Ehren
Erik nodded slowly, expressing that yes, he understood the things Ehren was talking about. A fascinating creature. "It seems that you indeed have something that the knighthood could use." He told the woman, his eyes glittering with the hint of a smile, "Just as you said, anyone can learn a trade, but in the same token, anyone can pick up a sword to fight. One might argue that the knighthood provides the service of keeping the peace. But no... you and I both know that its more than that."
The limbless man stood up and stretched his remaining arm before turning around and lumbering over to the window. Without turning he spoke to Erhen once more, "You must realize that if you become a knighthood, you become its property. There is no quitting from the knighthood. It becomes your life, even when you should otherwise be dead." He looked down at the hole where his arm should be and then turned to face Ehren, "I do not say this to discourage you, I just hope to let you know before you take any steps towards becoming one of us."
"Your family, whatever the circumstances have no bearing on your ability to become a knight. You will be trained and tested on your own merit. Just as everyone else is. If you truly want a chance, you have it." The grizzled man's somber expression then lightened and he strode to stand next to squire to be. "Now we just need to-" The man was cut off when Lord Loren Dyres himself strode into the office. "Ah, seems the Grandmaster saved us a trip. What can I do for you Ser?" The elder knight saluted to the ruler of the city who then saluted back, glancing briefly in Ehren's direction. "This a new recruit Sergeant?"
Erik nodded and grinned, "I think you'll like this one. She has heart."
However Loren shook his head, "I am a bit busy at the moment, so I'll let you field this one. I trust your judgement. I just came to talk to Petri; I was told he was here but apparently not. Oh well, a hunting I must go. Farewell. And welcome to the Order..." Loren trailed off, addressing Ehren and Erik prompted with a quick "Ehren."
"Ah, welcome Ehren. We can always use a dedicated soul. May Sylir watch over you."
With the Grandmaster gone Erik turned to Ehren. "Here, take this to the squire dormitories located in the Bittern District, second tier." The old knight gave the newly made squire a note, "Your Patron will arrive at the indicated room two bells before sun down. In the mean time it is recommended that you pick up gear from the quartermaster, armour, a weapon, and such." He started to walk towards the door and stopped, then turned to look at Ehren. "You have your chance now. No need to live in the shadow of your family's name, it never would have helped you anyways." He gave her an encouraging grin, "Welcome to the Order."
Garland
Ser Erik Rainstrom looked up from his paperwork as a young man walked up. His torso twisted as he reached over and slid papers into a neat pile. Years of practice without an arm gave him the skill to do this expertly. He then capped his ink well and nodded. "Welcome, you've come to the right place." Erik gave a thoughtful look over the teen, weighing him against some invisible scale in his mind. "Have a seat, what's your name, son? Why do you want to become a knight?" He offered a hand to the wooden, straight backed chair in front of the desk.
