"I see, Miss Revy," Ser Erik rubbed his beard as he looked calmly at the warrioress, but despite his apparent ease, Revy could feel the Knight's gaze staring deep into her soul, "Then, I must ask you a question," Erik shifted in his seat then paused for two ticks before continuing, "Know that joining the Knighthood is not about enjoying the privileges, but about serving Sylir, peace, civilization, justice, honor, and knowledge, and vanquishing all that is evil and tainted. You must throw away your personal desires and enjoyment. I ask you, Miss Revy, are you ready for it? Take your time and answer me."

Syliran Order Recruitment Office

Postby Revy Hiroe on June 16th, 2014, 9:15 pm

The ex-mercenary felt as if she was being taxed. She didn't like it, but she couldn't judge him for it without being hypocritical. She also did that often. But what he asked of her confused her a little. She didn't know the knights had any privileges. But apparently serving the people like that and protecting them wasn't enjoyable? Was that guy for real? So, protecting people was a chore to him?

"Eh, well first of all, I didn't know the knights got privileges. And second of all, I don't see protecting people as a drag. Rather I enjoy stuff like that. The only personal desire I have right now is to protect my girl, that's about it. And seeing how protecting people is the job of the knights, I'd say I don't need to throw that away. I just need to protect a few people more then just her.", she replied. Most likely she hadn't completely understood the question, but there was no doubt in her mind that she wanted this. It presented itself as an opportunity to change herself, be more open about the things she wanted to do, which was protecting others from harm and perhaps teaching them how they can avoid situations like that.

"I see..." Ser Erik rubbed his beard as he contemplated Revy's words, he didn't bother to ask about Revy not having compulsion to take the life of evil beings for Erik knew this woman was no novice in the art of warfare. The Knight picked up a quill then wrote something on a parchment with his remaining hand, then he rolled it up then sealed the parchment with a melted candle.

"Here take this," he offered the parchment to Revy, "Go to the Squire dormitories and tell one of the chaperons that I sent you," He gave Revy a firm nod, "Welcome to the Order, Squire Hiroe."

Syliran Order Recruitment Office

Postby Roderick on June 22nd, 2014, 10:45 pm

12th of Summer 514AV

Roderick's seemed to weigh him down somewhat as he walked, as though his body didn't agree with what his mind had decided on. He'd taken great care to wash and groom himself properly for this occasion, since he didn't plan on trying to go hunting afterwards. An inward debate had taken place over whether he should buy some new clothes or if his old ones would be fine. At first he thought he'd look too gruff, but had decided not to go strutting in wearing whatever finery he could afford. I'm a hunter - that's what he should see. After that he mused on whether to take his weapons. Marching around with everything would make him look like a ridiculous walking armoury, so that was out of the question. Appearing without anything at all and seeming unprepared wouldn't do either; eventually he slipped his flametongue into its scabbard with a shrug, left his armour behind and set off at a quick pace, letting his concerns slip away as he simply focused on the task at hand.

He'd spent enough time in Syliras to know where the recruitment office was, but until now had never given anything but a passing thought to it. The only reason he had now taken in any kind of interest in the order was because he of the overwhelming sense of futility he now felt day to day. Hunting had held his attention for a fair while now, but he felt like he was a farmer working the one patch of dirt over and over, without anything to show at the end of it. He didn't exactly have any other skills he could use to find other employment, either. Mercenary work was there, of course, but that would involve aimless wandering from place to place, always looking for the next coin pouch which would buy his day's meal.

Being a squire wouldn't be easy, of course, but hunting was hardly simple either. Knighthood.... now that was something he could work towards - a goal to set for himself. If he succeeded he'd finally have something he could devote his time to. Defending the weak, upholding justice... they might have been idealistic, flowery ideas, but they weren't without merit. Besides, if he had to spend his days killing things, he might as well fight for the people of Syliras. And even if I'm never knighted, then at least for the time being I'll have food to eat, a bed to sleep in and something worthwhile to devote time to.

Erik Rainstorm was one of the most battle worn men Roderick had ever seen. It was clear he'd been reasonably handsome once, but between his missing right arm, the shredded remains of his left ear and the fleshy scar tissue that covered much of his body it was hard not to initially grimace when he came into view. Offering his left hand for the old knight to shake, the Zeltivan nodded at and smiled pleasantly. "So I'm thinking you're Erik Rainstorm - the Sergeant Knight? I reckon its obvious why I'm here."

Ser Erik regarded the next potential recruit with a nod, he was a young man, looked nimble and fit, at first glance, Erik could see him become one of those Knights stationed near the Mithryn Outpost, however... he shall see.

The one-armed Knight assessed the the dark-haired young man with a simple question, "No, please tell me, why are you here?" If Roderick thought about it, he could see the deep gaze peering from the old Knight's eyes, his question meant so much deeper than the seemingly simple sentence.

Of course, there was the fact that this man had not introduce himself yet, Erik sighed mentally, it should be obvious yet people often forgot the simplest of etiquette.

He'd been expecting that sort of question to come up and had done his best to have an answer ready in case it did. "I'm Roderick." He said evenly "and I've come here so I can put myself to good use." Roderick stared the old knight straight in the eyes. Ser Erik had a fierce look about him now - one which burrowed into him and compelled him to speak freely and honestly. "Describing the feeling is odd... its not plain boredom that's brought me here... yes I'm tired of what I'm doing... but I feel like I need to do something... more." He looked at Erik thoughtfully "Do you know what I mean? I'm starting to feel like I haven't ever done anything noteworthy." He paused before he went on "I'm not just looking for glory... I want to look back and feel that I didn't waste my time."

Ser Erik leaned back in his chair, his features calm and not giving off any noteworthy reaction, "I see..." Erik then spoke words of wisdom, "It is self-fulfillment you seek, fulfillment can be derived by many things, whether it is responsibility or..." His tone took on a lower pitch, "Greed." The Knight paused to let his words sink in then continued, "Look inside you, Sir Roderick. What motivates you to seek it?"

Syliran Order Recruitment Office

41 Summer 514

Ehren paced nervously, just down the hall from the recruitment office. ”This time for sure”, she thought to herself. "This is it. No backing out. No coming back." She was ready, no doubt about that. Her scale mail was polished to a gleaming shine, her boots and belt freshly mended, her hair wrapped in a particularly tight braid. She was as presentable as one could hope to be given the heat of the summer. She took a deep breath and two rather rushed steps forward before pausing and pacing herself a bit more calmly. She took another breath, pressing her palms toward the floor as she exhaled, as if she could physically repress the butterflies growing ever more frantic in her stomach. Finally, after years of preparation, she was really doing this.
Upon entering the recruitment office, Ehren was mildly surprised to see almost no one else present. She glanced about, but for the time being it seemed only to be her and the older gentleman whom, she was told, manages new recruits. With a warm smile she approached the man and gave a low, respectful bow, “Greetings, Ser. My name is Ehren Irasapette Stalinsa. And, if it please you, I would like to pledge myself to the Order, to Knighthood, and to the service and honor of Sylir.” She straightened herself, renewed her smile and continued, “I have no formal training. However, I have been working independently for some time now and am familiar with the basics of combat – sword, shield, and crossbow – with riding, and with the theory and tactics of mounted combat.”
Ehren eyed the man, trying to remain as light and comfortable as possible. She felt that her introduction was acceptable, but she was slightly apprehensive nonetheless.
