lying/deception Interest?

Postby Grim Ravenwood on July 13th, 2016, 9:45 pm

Hello everyone!

Although I have joined the site just recently, I have taken great interest in developing. While browsing trough the skill list, I have noticed that one skill, crucial to everyday life, is missing.

Indeed, lying is what I'm talking about.

And yes, maybe impersonation is technically a form of lying, I am not talking about that. But rather the skill to convince your Akalak friend that you didn't bet and loose their lakan, but rather, that you have been ambushed by a band of forty men who robbed you of them. As one gains proficiency in lying, or deception, he will become so good at the said skill, that he would be able to even convince himself, loosing the usual nervous look and other body language that would give him away.

Thoughts, ideas, something?

I think that would be covered in Persuasion.

A mix of persuasion and subterfuge, perhaps?

Acting is another skill that might aid in lying.

lying/deception Interest?

Disguise, and maybe stealth could be related in some way shape or form? Maybe you could include the techniques needed to use for lies? And other things... :)

lying/deception Interest?

Postby Grim Ravenwood on July 14th, 2016, 9:16 am

@Prophet

Lying is basically telling alse statements with the deliberate intention to deceive someone, while on the other hand, persuasion would use appeals to reason, beliefs, values, emotions or obligations, to convince the listener to think or act in a particular way. While persuasion can aid in lying, I don't think it is really covered in it.

Yes, lying is making false statements but the purpose is to persuade others to believe them.

Storytelling would also apply here. But I agree, lying is covered under many other skills, but it seems to be undeserving of its own category as it's a regular part of speech.

Well, although I wouldn't completely agree, I won't start anything without encouragement. Thus, I guess this was a bad idea after all?

lying/deception Interest?

Postby Aladari Coolwater on July 15th, 2016, 3:32 am

Not necessarily a bad idea, as it does need covering somewhere. You could, if you had the time, develop any one of the mentioned skills (such as acting, storytelling, or persuasion) and include your section on deception/lying, That way, you could ensure it gets its limelight, but also help develop a heavily wanted skill. :)
