[OOC Thread] Welcome to the NaNoWriMo Forum!

(This is a thread from Mizahar's fantasy role play forum. Why don't you register today? This message is not shown when you are logged in. Come roleplay with us, it's fun!)

This forum contains all the NaNo threads from years gone past. Thus far we have only 2011 archived! But hopefully we'll have a ton more forthcoming as the years go by and NaNo's come and go.

Fair enough.

Also, this one: Top Word Winner: 50,000 words + Highest Word Count. Although a good idea, seems unfair. Unless I have misunderstood, it seems as though it would give players who have been here longer an unfair advantage in the sense that they tend to have larger word counts to begin with than newer players.

Unless the word count refers to going over the 50K minimum to complete the challenge?

I believe it would mean the highest word count garnered during the NaNo challenge rather than the total word count since character creation.
NOTICE: I am currently mostly inactive til August. As such, guild activities are temporarily halted (watch out for major revamps, changes and organizations when I'm back in full force). Any activity with Eri will be rather slow as well, but I am slowly readjusting back to "Mizahar life", so to speak, so do PM me if we have a thread that I left hanging and we'll talk.

yeah highest word count achieved during November. Otherwise none of us would have a hope of winning because Kavala would beat us all out.

Top Word Winner: 50,000 words + Highest Word Count

Only for the month of NOV hon. That's all we are talking about. We already give awards for 1 Mil words and numbers of posts etc. Those things are taken care of for everyone elsewhere. These are JUST NaNo challenges. And they'd have to register like a regular NaNo person else we can't verify their word total. :)

I'd suggest something similar to Aidara's idea, which would be thread challenge medals. We can even use it to encourage/motivate people to do things they normally wouldn't, or things to liven up the site, by using these incentives.

Say, maybe certain cities/areas have too little activity. Make a 'lonely city' medal that is tailored to the city's themes. For example, if Sunberth has too little activity (just saying, coz it'll probably never the case :P), thread challenges can be starting a fight, commit a petty crime, plan and execute an ocean's eleven with other PCs, piss off a major syndicate, etc. Something similar to Levi's Sunberth thread goals.

Or say, maybe there needs to be a stronger PC-driven economy, maybe offer a 'profession' medal, with goals like doing # job threads, making a business alliance, trading across more than 3 cities, (if product/service-driven) created more than 3 products or serviced more than three customers, that kind of thing.

Or suppose a certain city needs more chaos, or a lawless city needs some law and order. There can be thread goals to give an incentive to PCs to do stuff that tilt the balance either way.

I mean, the possibilities are endless. In this way you can guide the players in the direction you want, whether globally (mizahar-wide) or locally (city-wide). And give something to motivate people for NaNoWriMo. So it's really like killing two birds with one stone.

Just my 0.02 ~

I'm thinking...

The NaNo Wanderer
-Pc travels to five or more cities and stay there for a reasonable amount of time (ie they have 1-2 threads there)
-PC travels to a far away city and actually documents the travel via threads (solos etc)

The NaNo Scholar
-PC learns 3+ NEW skills and gets 15+ points in them
-PC gains 10+ points in 4 skills already known
-PC spends an inordinate amount of time reading, studying, etc

The NaNo Brawler(or something like that)
-PC gains 15+ points in unarmed or brawling( or maybe something that icludes more weapons too)

The NaNo Social Butterfly
-Have 4+ threads where the main goal is socializing rather than skill development
-PC gains 15+ points in socialization, rhetoric, etc
-PC meets 5+ new people

The NaNo Overachiever
- PC is awards all of the above medals

Okay so...I just made up all those numbers. If they're unreasonable then that's alright, they are just a guideline idea as I don't really know how your setting them up or what you already have jenjen
