[The Bolt Hole] Recovery Never Felt So Good

Kelski felt like somewhere in the last five days she’d turned into one of the shadows she utterly loved. They were with her so often, never leaving her alone, that it made sense somehow in her damaged psyche to see herself as one. She was home, safe, and people who loved her were all around. But they’d been hovering, never leaving her alone, until finally she’d asked one and all of them to give her some space. She’d done so retreating into her workshop, but she’d only looked at her gems and hadn’t truthfully felt anything.

That was the problem. There was such a detachment that Kelski felt lost. She was scared to leave The Gem. She was frightened of the thought of visiting the market again. She hadn’t taken to her wings because her ribs and face had hurt so much. No one could tell anything had been done to her, but Kelski felt differently… when she could feel at all.

And she wanted to feel something. Kelski felt trapped within her soul, deep down a dark well, and the outside world was passing like clouds drifting by the opening Her world was narrow and small as she stood down below in the water and peered upwards and outwards… the well her own soul. Ebon had stayed by her side, but his endless sadness disturbed her. It wasn’t that she didn’t want him around, but it was as if she wanted to feel what he was feeling because then it would be something. Ren had tried to cheer her up, but the Ocelot had no idea what Kelski was struggling with and why she wouldn’t play.

Little Rhaus played for her, but sometimes she just wanted the silence too. He seemed to understand and even though she fought it, the moods she felt would change with his music and the tension she was always feeling in her head sometimes eased. Sometimes she felt less scared when he played, but she hated that too because it meant she had to acknowledge she felt scared when the feeling lessoned.

Aer’wyn was the best help of all. He sometimes just dropped by, pretending things were normal, and told her something about his day before leaving again with some excuse to be on his way. Kelski appreciated that, being included, without any demands made on her. She rarely spoke, rarely acknowledged when someone was near, but managed to carry on the motions of normalcy hoping no one would notice nothing was normal about her anymore.

The hardest day was two days after she returned when Ebon brought her some sort of tincture and asked her to drink it. She looked at it and at him and tried to manage a question, but nothing came out. “It won’t taste good.” He explained and then gestured to the cup. “Little Rhaus told us what happened… what he did. I… you need to drink this Kelski. Just in case…” He said, his expression stoic like he had made the comment a million times before. Kelski had taken the drink, looked at him, and looked at the drink, and tried to make sense of it. Ebon tried again, this time just flat out telling her what it was. “It will keep a child from quickening inside of you, Kelski. Darvin’s child.” He said, covering the cup with her hand and urging her to drink it.

Kelski simply stared at him. Why would he care? Why would she care? It wasn’t the child’s fault if there was one. But then she realized what he meant. It would be another Darvin. Younger, perhaps more innocent, but Darvin nonetheless. Kelski opened her mouth to tell Ebon she didn’t care, then closed it again, not finding the energy or the willpower to do so. She carefully placed the drink to her lips and emptied the cup into her stomach. Bells later cramps followed, so too did blood, and her body acted like a human woman’s and cycled though Kelski had never had to bother with one before.

Ebon had walked out of the room, forgetting the mug still clutched in Kelski’s hand. As soon as the door to the suite closed, the Kelvic had hurled the mug at it. The mug smashed into it, shattered into a thousand pieces and caused the Kelvic to rise. The next day she felt a little glad… glad that she’d killed Darvin’s child if it was inside her and glad that all that was in her body when he had been was gone. And so skipping eating, skipping gathering with the group around the table, Kelski had headed for her workshop in a quiet way that leant them to believe she was going to be down there a while, and when she stopped in the middle of it, she turned a full circle, surveyed the whole place, and felt the walls closing in.

The Sea Eagle wanted to do something she was afraid to do. So she quietly left everyone behind, closing the door of the shop behind her, and set out across the city towards the market. She took her time getting there, dragging her feet along the way, and half talking herself out of it several times. Once she came to the market, the day had grown pleasant, the streets clear, and virtually no one was out and about in that early hour. Except boys… boys were casing the place and Kelski watched them do it. They spotted her and immediately they flocked into her flight path, whispering something Kelski was surprised to hear.

“Pretty lady… we’re supposed to gather all the pretty ladies. There’s a new place in town… a place to forget yourself and dance the night away. There’s liquor and music, beautiful music, and we’ve promised safe passage to everyone there. No violence allowed. Dancing only…. “ And the little boys handed her a flier. “Dress pretty… dance wildly… everyone will be there.” The boys said, looking at the flier and then looking at her. Kelski took the piece of paper, read the description on how to get to the building, and looked thoughtful.

Dancing….

Yes.

It filled her with excitement and she latched onto the feeling. Kelski carefully folded up the letter and kept walking. One of the boys, as they ran off, turned his head back towards her and said… “Wear something nice… sexy… and something other than black lip pomade.” The human said. Kelski blinked but glanced around the market. Excitement slowly replaced fear. She found it hard to be afraid when the market was all but deserted. She thought it would be hard coming back here, but it was easy with the… the monster dead. Kelski started to wander.

She passed booth after booth, the folded flier of parchment in her hand, wondering how she would acquire something to wear when a woman stepped out and hissed at her. Kelski startled because in her world hissing was a bad thing. She started to retreat, but the woman snaked out a hand and caught her wrist. “You looking for things to wear? To The Bolt Hole?” She said, nodding at the paper. Kelski caught the woman’s eye and saw nothing in her gaze but a saleswoman wanting to make a sale. The Kelvic nodded.

The woman beckoned to her to come into her tent and Kelski followed her inside, startled by the clothing that surrounded her. Most of it was leather, most of it was barely there, but all of it one could fight in. The woman looked her up and down and pulled out a pair of tall leather boots with heels that weren’t too high but just right, two inches and solid. She tossed a leather skirt on the boots, and added a belt and a cropped silk top in a deep blue that shimmered with a multitude of other nighttime colors. She added a black corset to the mix and then walked to a spot on the far side of the tent that held cosmetics. She tossed a couple of brushes into the bag, a pot of kohl, lip pomade in a color that matched Kelski’s silk top, and an assortment of other things.

“Do you know how to use any of this stuff?” The woman asked, gesturing at the cosmetics. Kelski shook her head, still not having said a word, and the woman sat her down. “You’re Kelvic aren’t you? Unbonded or you wouldn’t be clutching that piece of paper would you? Looking for a bondmate there? I’ll fix you up. It’s what I do. Those twins from Wind Reach put on an incredible show. Even if you cannot find a male of worth there, you will have a good time. Now… let me show you.” She said, setting up a mirror where Kelski could see herself, and settling across from her on a stool.

The woman laid out the cosmetics and carefully and neatly began to give Kelski a lesson. She painted her eyelids with a pot of glimmering blue shadow that matched the silk top on the pile. Next her eyes were lined and her lashes coated with a thick black inky substance that dried and made them look about four times as long. The woman powdered her face and then added a blue lip pomade to Kelski’s already black lips. Rouge painted her cheeks and Kelski stared at herself in the mirror, completely not recognizing who she was.

“Now… stand up and get out of those clothes.” The woman said and Kelski did. There was something about the woman that secured in Kelski’s mind that it was safe. She stripped and the woman helped her dress in the silk blouse, black corset and the skirt that was barely there. High boots protected her legs, and the belt fitted around her waist to hide her daggers. Kelski didn’t feel remotely like herself and she loved it.

“You look ready…” the woman said. “I’ll send your regular things back to wherever you tell me to and then you best get going… the party is about to start.” She added, laughing and looking around. “I need to be changing myself. I’ll see you dancing out on the floor… save one for me, pretty little Kelvic.” The woman said, gathering up Kelski’s discarded clothing and boxing it up. Kelski paid her what she asked for in the bill, and then wrote down the address to The Midnight Gem where the woman was already acquiring a messenger to send her things back.

Then Kelski turned and headed out, feeling… somehow better… somehow invincible as she walked and read the flier, following the instructions. She heard the music before she saw the crowd in the huge abandoned building. The sound matched her heartbeat. People surged in a huge crowd to rows and rows of drummers that were playing wildly. Torches burned even though the sun hadn’t gone down yet. When full dark set the place would look amazing. There was a raised dais with multiple drummers and singers all making music at once.

A smile split Kelski’s face and she quietly waded into the fringe, shouldering her way forward and beginning to dance. She couldn’t’ help but dance, not with the music playing and the air thrumming. IT wasn’t any kind of dancing she had seen before. People just surged in and out, ebbed and flowed, each moving their own individual way.

Within a heartbeat, someone was dancing with her, then someone else was passing her off to another partner. Sometimes they were male, sometimes female, but she enjoyed every one of them. The music was too loud to talk, so she danced, noting there was a bar that was quieter opposite and behind where the drummers were. People could talk over there, get a drink, and mingle.

But for now that didn’t interest Kelski. She wanted to dance… feel…. and be lighter.

[The Bolt Hole] Recovery Never Felt So Good

Kynier held his cold iron short sword in his hand as the blade, the hilt, even the handle all glowed a pure white light. Healing magic poured through his body and centered itself on the stab wound in his side. A frigid burn flared at the edges of his wounded skin, tissues, and muscles. The power of the weapon accelerated his natural healing process and had done him wonders. Dira had been patiently waiting for him and the only way he had eluded her was to return to the Midnight Gem and receive healing from Ebon’s hand. When Kynier had finally fallen unconscious he had slept for over a whole day. When he woke his skin had more of its color and was less pale. Since then Ebon had given him no further assistance, and yesterday Kynier had found out why. The mage didn’t resent the night lion, for his reasons were too valid.

Once the weapon ceased its glow the cold burn of healing dissipated. But a phantom pain lingered in his side. Yesterday in his anger he had overgiven and was still suffering from it. Even lying completely still he felt the wound throb painfully. He sat back in the chair on the balcony and overviewed the beach. Silently he sat there thinking of nothing on the fringe of yet more sleep when he heard a door close below. Turning his head to listen, he heard no footsteps approaching. Someone had left. Kynier did not stir but returned his gaze to the crashing waves in the distance.

For bell, perhaps more, he sat in silent contemplation. Something was very wrong and he did not know what he could do to improve things. Where there had been laughter and discourse there was now only silence and sideways glances. A taint had come into their home and was soiling it. Kynier was not one that easily initiated the laughter and generally held his tongue to listen when there was more than one person to speak to. Kelski was withdrawn and no one knew what to do about it. Kynier had chosen a path of half measures. Being forced to stay at the Midnight Gem at all hours as well had given him opportunity to spend more time with the sea eagle. Instead, he selected to moderate his time so that she didn’t feel smothered by him. He had no idea if he was doing too much or too little.

As hunger settled in he stood up with a fair share of pain in his side. Not having the energy to make a proper meal, he filled a bowl with fruit and nuts to eat. The sweet flavors gave him a bit more energy even if it was only in his mind. Before he had finished there was a knock on the door of the building. Kynier stood up and went to the banister to see who it might have been. No one else answered the door. Kynier traversed the stairs with a wince at each step and went to the door. A messenger carrying a small crate stood at the door. “Delivery,” he said. Kynier arched an eyebrow and took the crate from the messenger’s hands. There was no note or letter attached.

“Who’s it from?” he asked as the messenger turned to leave.

“From the market.” The messenger looked up at the Midnight Gem sign then nodded. “A woman came by and got new clothes for the party. She paid to have her other clothes sent here,” and with that the messenger left. Kynier closed the door and took a few steps inside before setting the crate down. His curiosity was burning and he took had no hesitation in forcing the crate open. Inside where clothes for a woman. Kelski’s clothes. Worry surged through him. She had left without word and was staying out. While he had attempted to provide a respectable space he couldn’t sit here while she was out. He went upstairs and donned his usual out attire. Dark pants, dark high boots with a dagger tucked in one, a rusty red cotton shirt, and his dark green vest. Weapons, coin, and magic items each in their usual place, he set out to the market to discover where the party was located.

It was before he could get to the Seaside Markets that several adolescents were out handing out fliers. They were calling out to no one and everyone about a place, The Bolt Hole. Kynier hadn’t heard of it. Not until on boy came up and gave him a flier with the directions. “Drinks, drugs, dancing, and dancing women! It’s already started but you’re not too late! Just a silver for the best music!” The boy exclaimed. Kynier looked over the directions and started walking. As he did he noticed that he was a single person in a forming crowd that gathered outside of the abandoned building. The fervent banging of percussions echoed beyond the contents of the walls and torchlight. Syna had gone to rest and Leth was late in his rise by the time Kynier got to the door to hand over his silver.

Inside was a mass of people all compressed together leaving no room to stand idle except for a small isle that ran along the walls. Kynier learned quickly to hold his arm stiffly at his side to guard his wound. Multiple hands and elbows brushed against him and people stepped into his path as he slivered through. Singing pierced out over the mob in synch to the drumming. Kynier’s heart matched the rhythm and the urge to dance grew inside him like an infection. He tried to ignore the feeling as his gaze washed over the crowd searching.

Through a sea of faces he found the one he sought. At first he didn’t think it was her until he saw the ombre hair swirling in gaiety around her form. She danced wildly as she swung from partner to partner, man to women, and all with a smile he had not seen the likes of in days. That brought a smile of his own as he stood like a pillar with strangers jumping, flailing, and crashing like waves all around him. The worry seeped from his being as he watched her through the crowd.

The music began to possess him as his feet started to move with no sense of direction. In ticks he was another face of the crowd, shifting through the tight spaces of madness. The smell of ale filled the air and was warmed by the mass of people in their exertions. In no time sweat was running down his back as he shifted and moved side to side while others bounced up and down to the symphony of drums and singers on stage. Thoughts, concerns, and even pain became foreign concepts as he let himself drift with the rhythm.

[The Bolt Hole] Recovery Never Felt So Good

Waves crashed against worn wooden posts, the repetitive lapping played a gentle song to her ears as she leaned against a rail and watched the water in the Market. It was unusually quiet throughout the stalls but she didn’t mind. It was nice to not worry about pick-pocketers as much and ware sellers cat calling and disturbing Syna’s dance of colors along the skyline. Little feet scampered around the cobbled and dirt ladened paths, ears pricked at the sound. Her focus remained on the dance of pink, purple and deep blue hues as her senses tuned to the noise.

Perching an elbow, her chin rested in the base of her palm, fingers tapped lightly along her bottom lip. Faint conversations were had, spotted with the call of children looking to share, the ruffling of papers adding to the cacophony. It wasn’t until the deep tones of a woman joined one of the high pitched boys nearby. With a shift of her gaze to the side, her eyes rested on a woman taking one of the papers and studying it. Watching nonchalantly with the laziness of a cat resting in a sunlit window sill on a Summer’s day. Scanning the woman she noted the piercing eyes, and pitch black… everything. Hair, nails, lips; they were all dark as coal.

The golden gaze danced around the Market, flitting back to the dark woman every so often, sometimes returning to the beautiful view and back again. She had nowhere to be, no friends or family to check in with any longer. No responsibility to anyone, other than herself. So she did as she pleased when she pleased. There were no daily tasks to ensure the survival of a tribe or demands from those who deemed themselves her ‘master’ of sorts. She was happy with this. Despite the common knowledge of the City of Gangs, she felt freer than she had in a long time.

Facing around, resting elbows and back against the wood, she surveyed the area. A lad ran close by and glanced at her. Little feet slowed in their pace and cut back, shoving a paper in her direction. “Come and join! You’re pretty, so come and see!” With a tilt of the head, looking at the scribbles and art that decorated the leaflet, everything looking like a garbled mess of black ink. “What is this?” With a wave, the paper flapped back and forth in the breeze as she shook it in his direction. “A gathering! A dance! A party!” he replied cheerfully, large teeth filling his mouth with a grin. “I don’t know what any of this means though,” a soft pout formed her lips in disdain. She could care less to decipher the mess on the sheet, but finding a place to dance and unwind was something that sounded deliciously fun. “Read this,” she demanded, “tell me where.”

A small brow on the little face furrowed, snatching the crinkled paper back from her hand, “do I look like I can read this? Who has use of that?” He scoffed and scampered off. Leaving her deflated on the edge of the Market. With a hmph she turned back around and crossed arms over her chest, pouting further. With a scowl, the view seemed less appealing than before, so again she turned and began to stomp back to her quarters. Mid-stride she paused slightly near a stall, her pace slowed but still carrying her in the same direction as a glimpse of a raven-colored mane caught her attention.

The woman she’d spied earlier sat with another woman, patiently having kohl applied to long lashes. The reflection of the mirror giving insight into the application. Continuing further on she churned in thought. Having spied the woman receiving a paper from a child earlier she wondered if it was one in the same as had been handed and then unceremoniously ripped from her grasp. It felt weird to stalk someone on the street… but then stalking was what she liked to do, right?

Stopping alongside the opposite edge of the Market chimes passed as she impatiently waited for the dark beauty to rise from the stall. Blowing hair from her face, arms crossed and a foot tapping, she starred around in all manner, hoping to see if one of the other younglings were around to pander the material. To her dismay, it seemed as though they had moved on during the earlier tantrum. Finally, after her attention had waned, her patience thinned, she saw the transformed woman. With a tilt of the corner of her mouth in a small smile, she appreciated the dark complimentary blues on her. It was in quite a contrast to the soft fitted white lace of her own dress. Beige coloring and black kohl had been brushed on her own lids while a rose pomade half faded on tightened lips. White, chained sandals sat on her feet. Coppered jewelry on her ears, wrist, and neck. They were, in all appearances, quite different. No matter to Fire though, the woman was only a source of means to gain direction to the fun that awaited.

Keeping distance she tried to pick up and land he feet as softly as she possibly could, although it was difficult with the small heel on the cobble. Hoping the distance muffled some of her clattered steps, she tried best to keep the woman in sight. Passing building after building, the sounds greeted them. Distracted from her task of stalking with the promise of excitement, her heart thudded hard against her ribs with anticipation. She bounded forward toward the strange looking building, torchlight danced with the bodies, drums hammered out a beat. A hard arm came up and caught her off guard. Stilling her quick movement abruptly, a bouncer held out a hand, the thick corded arm her barrier. A whoosh of air escaped quickly from her lungs, with a cough she backed up and narrowed her eyes at the brute. “What is this?”

“Money.” He stated this information as his other hand reached to other patrons swarming in to gather the coin. With a huff, she stuffed her hand hard into her coin purse, fishing around. What coin would he need? She eyed the other fist grabbing greedily back and forth, plucking coin from passing hands and then adding them to his own bag adorned at the hip. Silver flashed in a hand that darted in front of her, she plucked a coin of the same color and slapped it into the, still, outstretched arm. Just as quickly as she placed it, the blocking appendage moved and resumed the same task as the other hand.

Entering the area, the pulse of music filled her ears, rocked her body, and sang to her heart to join in with the sea of bodies. As her hips swayed, twisted and rocked, from the corner of her eye she spotted the pitch black sea of hair again, the body that accompanied moving close as the sea of people shifted like the water she’d studied earlier. With a waving change of people, a man dancing nearby caught her attention. Not because he was dressed in a similar blacked garb, with a red top that contrasted but also complimented the blues of the woman, but because he’d been staring at her. Pure curiosity kept Firenze’s attention on the two, despite the give and pull of the party surrounding her on all sides.

[The Bolt Hole] Recovery Never Felt So Good

Kelski would have liked to think her powers of observation were extensive. And maybe on a normal day they would have been. But this night, and in this sort of reckless sense of loss of self she felt, she didn’t realize anyone followed her. Nor did she realize anyone watched her. They were just faces, formless, nameless, wanting nothing but being together in the misery that was Sunberth. Kelski hated the place, the entire city, and felt it sucked something from her taking and taking and rarely giving back. What she got from the city she physically took, reaching out and wrapping her talons around and prying it fighting from the grip the sprawl of misery had on whatever it was.

Sometimes she wrestled whatever it was free. Sometimes the city retrained whatever it was she wanted. She won sometimes, but so often she lost too. It was as if pieces of her soul were gone, ripped from her due to her experiences here. They were huge gaping wounds she didn’t want to acknowledge. Recognizing the pain made them real and Kelski didn’t want them to be real. Just like the damage to her face – her orbit and jaw cracked, or the ribs that weren’t completely whole anymore.

And somehow the music did what Ebon’s touch or her friends’ voices could not do. The music healed her in that moment, causing her to lose herself to the pounding rhythm to a point that her aching ribs and other assorted hurts didn’t feel so badly. Kelski felt like she wore armor, dressed in the new clothing with her features accented with the cosmetics. The Kelvic had no experience with dancing… other than a few notable times in her life when something had moved her, usually faith. But in this, she felt confident. She didn’t just move her feet and legs, but her whole body took over.

Her hips swayed, her shoulders and arms began to move as well, her whole body limber and warm, filled with a sort of magic she’d just been discovering with Little Rhaus. His voice did this to her, so the worry and trouble and even the pain drained out of her. She felt recharged in a way, refreshed, and the crowd itself seemed to gather its own energy like a mage throwing their djed around. Kelski tipped her head back and laughed, the drumbeat causing her heart to pound and her lungs to fill with fresh air over and over again.

She bumped wide-eyed into another kelvic, a woman with gorgeous long blond hair and a beautiful face. Kelski threw her arms around the woman and laughed, capturing her hands with her own and pulling the woman deeper into the crowd. Kelvics were safe… safer than humans… beautiful and pure in a way that no man or woman could compete with that didn’t know the inner form of an animal and the wildness they held inside.

Kelski tipped her head back and screamed like an eagle, screamed to the drumbeat, and none of it seemed out of place. She arched her back to do so and her ribs never complained once. When she straightened she caught the woman’s eyes, reached up and grabbed her face after releasing her hands, and leaned close so her lips were next to the woman’s ears.

“I’m Kelski. We are so much more than these people… do you feel it? Do you really feel it? We are so much more than they let us be. Fly with me… though I don’t know if you have wings or not.” Kelski shouted into her ear, meaning dancing. And then she pulled the other kelvic deeper into the crowd, shrugging off the men that reached for them so invitingly. She didn’t want men. She didn’t want humans. She wanted the company and joy of her own kind, the feral wildness that only the other woman would know.

Kelski lead them deeper into the crowd, closer to the drums, and looked up as she danced as a woman stepped up and started pelting out lyrics to a song. They were in a sea of bodies, but Kelski felt like her and the other Kelvic were all alone. Whatever it was that made Kelvics recognize each other made her feel safe with the blond.

The music and the crowd obscured Kelski from seeing Kynier. She often felt his presence as a warming in her heart, a sense of home arching up her back, but she was already so hot due to the crowd and the music. Had she known he was there, she would have greeted him and danced with him, not capturing the blond’s attention. But she thought she was alone, alone in a sea of humans and the best representations of Sunberths’ misery releasing itself. And being with another Kelvic comforted her. To her, the Kelvics were honest, forthright, and a much needed comfort in her life.

“We can get drinks if your thirsty…” Kelski offered, shouting the words towards the other Kelvic. They were so close to the drums now it was almost impossible to speak or hear each other… but the thunder rolled through them and Kelski herself wanted a drum to pound… wanted to jump up on stage and join the redhead pelting out a song and one of the dozen drummers all drumming together.

It was as loud as thunder and reverberated throughout his body. The rhythm of drums that changed yet never losing its intensity. Creating music that turned the wretches of the city into mindless thralls seeking its release. Was this how it felt taking the opioids that ran throughout the streets? To have that sense of numbness and yet find oneself reveling in it? It was truly intoxicating. Kynier lost track of his own placement in the mass of dancing, flailing, screaming bodies. Lost track of the reason he had come. Was simply… lost. And welcomed the sensation.

It all came crashing down at the next song change. The singers upon the stage performed a smooth transition and the drummers only allowed his heart to be heard for an instant. But in that single moment between the thunderous poundings everything came back, including his senses. All of those around him took no note in the pause and sought the next hypnotic storm soon to roll through. As the sea of bodies shifted and surged into wild action once more, Kynier stood his ground and peered around through the crowd. The sea eagle was nowhere to be seen. Swallowed whole by the mass just as he had been.

Now he was awakened and felt the need to cut himself away from the masses. Holding his elbow low and tense to guard his wound, Kynier shouldered his way… somewhere. Somewhere away from stage so that more people rested between him and the source of the enthrallment. His hair was soaked with sweat as well as his shirt. He wondered when it had gotten so hot. If he could he would’ve taken a swim in the Mudway just to cool himself down some.

At last he made his way out past the edge of the dancing masses. Breathing heavily, and wishing for something cold to drink, Kynier wandered over and set his back against the wall. Blood flushed his face and the air tasted stale and moist with sweat. Crashing from the resonating narcotic, the strength in his legs vanished and he slid down the wall until he was seated of the floor. Those around him ignored him, while somehow managing to not trample over him.

Every so often someone would come over and offer him Lightning Bolts to drink. To each of them he shooed away with an arm. His body began to hurt and in multiple places, none worse than the stab would at his side. A hand rested over it defensively. The bandage underneath felt drenched; but unless he stripped Kynier couldn’t tell if it was all sweat or if some of it had been blood. He began to consider that coming here was a mistake.

They laugh at me because I am different.
I laugh at them because they are all the same.
