Along the Harbor's Water

Postby Leila on April 30th, 2013, 7:38 pm

Leila quickly opened the herbalism kit, and pulled out several items. The first was a small leather pouch, which she pulled the string to open. The air around them was immediately exposed to a very spicy, heavy scent. It was cayenne pepper powder, a dark red brown, "Okay, this might sting a little but try not to flinch too much. This will help slow the bleeding and dull the pain." She took pinches of the powder, and began to sprinkle it over all the bleeding wounds, doing her best to keep it even, and not waste any.

Leila saw the woman's copious use of seaweed as garments, and that spurred an idea. She turned to Ricky, "Ricky, can you dive in here and find me a few armlengths of seaweed? Should be plenty just off the docks."

Satisfied that she'd powdered most of the wounds, she sealed up the pouch. Then she reached in and grabbed a few wooden containers and an empty bowl. She opened the first container and poured some honey into the bowl. She grabbed as stirring rod, then opened the second container, which released a scent of flowers. Lavender oil, which she poured into the bowl of honey. She stirred the ingredients together, mixing evenly until it was one pleasantly pungent golden paste. She sniffed at it, then added some more lavender to the mixture, stirred, and was satisfied. The kit had no cloth or bandages that would stand up to constantly being submerged in seawater, hence the need for seaweed. She would wait to apply the paste for Ricky to return, "This paste will help to soothe the wounds, prevent infection, and promote healing."

The strong scent of something spicey filled the sea salty air around them, Ricky guessed it was peppery by how his nose nearly wanted to burn.He felt bad for Ariann, bad enough to not allow any more harm come to her. Already on land and the first injury she gets is from her own excitement, Ricky could hardly believe it himself. Leila then asked for him to dive in the ocean for seaweed. "Aye, that I can." He nodded with enthusiasm, how else would he have passed his initiation in the guard. Ricky went near the crate his boots rested at, and even though his uniform was wet enough as it was, he didn't plan to let all of it soak. Thus he quickly unfastened the azure jacket he wore and laid it on the crate. Underneath was just his short sleeve cotton shirt, which he just simply stripped and threw down next to the crate. Had he any shorts on he would've removed the pants of his uniform as well, to his great regret though Ricky had nothing but his drawers underneath, so he would just have to dive in with the lower half of his azure uniform on.

Ricky ran for the edge of the dock and dove in hands first to give him a better push towards the bottom, a deep breath taken just before he plummeted into the cool sea. When he submerged under the surface he opened his eyes to find seaweed all around, and paddled his hands accordingly with the kicks of his feet to help him reach the floor. Small amounts of air left through his nostrils occasionally, to provide him the time he needed to complete his task. Though the water felt a bit chillier the further down he went, it didn't keep his.mind from the task that was at hand. He grabbed a handfull of seaweed at the base in one hand another handfull with the other, and ripped the plant from the floor.

Satisfied he gathered enough, Ricky put the handfull in his right in with his left, and paddled back to the surface. When his head broke out of the water he released the remaining air in his lungs and gasped for more, as he reached for the dock and threw his left arm with the seaweed onto it. He used his left arm as an anchor of weight, to help pull him back onto the dock so he could give Leila the handfull he had. When He pulled himself onto the dock water ran down his face and body, his pants drenched from the sea as the water the threads couldn't hold ran free onto the wooden planks. Ricky jogged his way back to the two, and held the seaweed out for Leila as he knelt down by her. "Hope this will do."

Along the Harbor's Water

Cyan pepper. It wasn't the first thing Ariann would have used on another person, but Leila seemed to have a detailed knowledge of things that Ariann lacked. Still, the pepper on her wounds and on the scrapes atop her face begun to burn before Ariann could say anything, causing her eyes to water up again. Ariann sniffled, looking as if she was going to cry, but held in her tears as her bottom lip quivered painfully. The wounds on her face seemed to seem a strange mucus along with blood, which reacted with the cyan pepper and stopped the healing altogether. Ariann whimpered slightly, the feeling of the slightly opaque liquid foaming when it hit the oxygen made the pain lessen.

"Owie, owie, owie..." She said, her nose twitching as she breathed in some of the pepper. For a moment, she appeared fine, but then she sneezed, spraying Leila in the face with a thin opaque mucus that was mixed with the pepper that had entered into her nostril slits. Her body convulsed forward and then quickly lurched backwards until she lay flat on the deck again, placing a hand on her stomach. "That hurt..." She muttered as she sat up and looked at her arms, which had taken most of the fall. When the seaweed was brought out of the water, Ariann's eyes widened. She began to shake her head vigorously, "No, no no! Put that back! I'll be fine! The pain's gone now, see?" She said, slapping one of the scrapes on her arm. Her eyes closed tightly as the pain riveted through her arm, but she didn't let on any more than a whimper. "S-see?" She said, opening an eye to look at Ricky and forcing a small smile, revealing her sharp, shark-like teeth.

Along the Harbor's Water

Postby Leila on May 6th, 2013, 2:22 am

Leila saw Ricky undressing from the side of her vision, and she blushed terribly. He was terribly good looking, and she quickly turned her head so as to not stare. She heard him dive into the water as she looked down at the injured creature. Leila saw some strange substance mingling with the blood, and hadn't the slightest idea what it was. She'd have to learn more about this race later, perhaps write down what she learned in her journal later. Then the damnable thing sneezed in her face.

Leila had never felt so defiled in her entire life. Slime sticking to her face, her hair. Thankfully her eyes and mouth were closed when it struck. Slowly, her sleeved arm came up to her face, and she wiped away the nastiness. If this creature hadn't been injured, that would've been the last straw. Having gotten enough of it off to at least open her eyes and mouth safely, she glared at the Charoda. Ricky was back now, with the sea weed and now the damned creature was throwing fits again.

"Calm down, I need to apply this paste to the wounds to keep them from being infected, then use the seaweed as bandages. We're here to help, but you must let us. Stop freaking out and let me finish this, and we can get about this tour of yours."

Ricky was a little late to see the whole "achoo accident" that occured, but when he held the seaweed out to Leila her expression was enough to give Ricky the impression that something agitated her. It was then Ariann persisted to object and persuade them both that she was better, of course neither of them really bought it. The way she had hit the docks was more than enough to examplify the fact she was injured, the lucky thing was that she had only wound up with scrapes and bruises instead of worse. Leila protested to the Charoda as she had put together some sort of ointment for her, and Ricky found himself to be quite impressed.

"Leila's right lass, ye need this if ya want to be fully healthy again. She's got a good idea that'll help ya, so just take it easy and let us do the work." He insisted with a sincere look to the Charoda, which he then looked to Leila. "Anythin else ya need me to do? Just tell me and I'll do it." He assured her with a crooked smile, ready for whatever other idea she may have next. Embrace the unexpected and hold onto courage when there's fear, even when in the most strangest of times like this. The fact Ricky was actually helping the first Charoda he's ever met, now that will be a strange time he won't ever forget.

Along the Harbor's Water

Postby Ariann on May 8th, 2013, 6:40 am

Leila obviously wasn't very happy and the look on her face was enough to stop Ariann from protesting more. Instead, she donned her cherubic expression of guilt and her emerald eyes turned away as her head canted slightly to the side. She had the appearance of a scolded child at this point, one that knew she was in the wrong but just didn't have any way out of it.

"I'm sorry..." She mumbled under her breath, barely loud enough for Leila to hear, let alone Ricky. Ariann truly did feel guilty. It was her fault that Leila had been sneezed on and Ricky drenched in water as they both tried to aid her, and yet all she'd done was protest and try to be strong when they all knew she wasn't nearly so. If it wasn't for her lighter bones, she most definately would have broken something. Charodae bones were the same as fish; strong and very flexible, yet retaining a lightweight quality for slip-stream swimming.

Ariann stopped moving altogether after that, her right arm crossed over her stomach as her hand rested upon the nook of her elbow. She looked away still, her emerald eyes fixated on the waves that rippled past the docks and slapped against the shore. She could already feel the homesickness of the sea calling her, and she hadn't even been out of the water for five minutes yet. Her experience on the land was terrifying, but there was a visible silver lining to it when she thought of the 'Wave Guard' and his friend, Leila. They had been kind enough to be stern with her and show her that she wasn't alright at all. They had taken their time to aid her.

But with all of this in mind, Ariann still had the sinking feeling that she wasn't safe. There was still the big, hulking monster that they called a 'dog' nearby, and she could sense that there would be more of the monsters in the city. She could feel the fear well up in her stomach and couldn't help but shed a tear, which rolled down her cheek and dripped off into her lap. She didn't know why she had shed that single tear, but it felt like the right thing to do at the time.

Along the Harbor's Water

Postby Leila on May 21st, 2013, 12:31 am

Now that the Charoda had managed to calm down, Leila went back to work. She stirred up the paste she'd made for good measure, then scooped out a dollop with her finger. She pressed the paste into the first wound, then began spreading it over the wound, pressing firmly as to get it in the wound, but not too hard as to cause undue pain. She made sure the paste was evenly spread, then grabbed a length of seaweed. She judged that she needed about a foot, which she ripped off. She pressed a flat side of it against the wound, then wrapped it thrice around her arm, and tucked it within itself. She made sure that she could get two fingers beneath it, and satisfied, she continued her treatment. She repeated the process for each wound until she was satisfied that it was done.

She wiped out the bowl with the last bit of seaweed, which she then tossed into the ocean. She put all of the items back into the pack, and then stood up, holding it against her chest. She then stuck out a hand, downwards toward the fishwoman, to help her up. "You should be good to go now. I believe we had plans for a tour. We can return this pack on our way up the docks. If those bandages dry out, please remove them, you shouldn't need to replace them after a day or so. And I believe leading the tour is Ricky's area of expertise."

Leila gathered up Ricky's shirt and boots and carried them over to him, trying not to stair at the shirtless, glistening man. A blush crept onto Leila's face, and she looked downward, trying to hide it. She handed over his clothes, and noticed that Shaco had snuck his way to stand between them, licking the water from Ricky's feet. Leila put his leash back on him, and rubbed his head playfully. "Would you like to get a change of clothes? I wouldn't want you to catch a cold?"

Ricky watched in fascination as Leila worked her medical skills on Ariann, the little goop that became applied would surely help heal the injures Ariann had earned on her first trip onto land. The way the seaweed was wrapped like bandages came off as impressive, even rather genius, on Leila's part. Ricky somehow felt a bit of admiration at how she showed such care, the way she treated the cuts and scrapes made her seem like a real professional healer. The three stood on their feet and when Leila handed the clothes Ricky nearly tore off to dive in the sea he thanked her, a few laughs came as he felt the wet laps of a tongue slide on his feet.

Shaco reminded him of Odis so much, a hearty grin couldn't be held back when he looked down at the dog, but then why should he hold back a smile when the memory felt good. "Bah, it'd have to be winter again before I catch cold." He mused with a wink as he took a seat on a crate. He crinkled the outside trousers from the waist down along the leg until he squeezed out what water remained, and did so with the other leg before he put on his simple cotton shirt. Then he slipped on the jacket and leaned down to slip on the boots of his uniform, even though it would all likely get a bit damp it was nothing the fireplace couldn't fix. Ricky then started to fasten together the buttons of his uniform jacket, and looked to the two with a warm smile.

"Right then," He cheered with a glance to the city, "We've several places to visit in Zeltiva if ya like. What sort of place would ya like to see first?" Ricky asked with a bit of enthusiasm in his voice, ready to show the Charoda around the city. It was completely up to her on where they would go, as Ricky planned on being her simple guide through the big city.

Along the Harbor's Water

Postby Ariann on May 22nd, 2013, 5:40 pm

Ariann continued to look away, guilt settling over her as she stood with the others. "I am not sure..." She said, managing to stifle the pain with the help of the bandages. "Can we go somewhere for food?" She asked, her stomach growling in reply. She looked down again, a hot feeling crept up on her cheeks as she blushed heavily. The two that stood before her had been so kind and so gentle, and yet they still had the terrifying dog beside them.

Her eyes darted towards the dog. Dogs liked to eat fish. Ariann had witnessed it first hand seeing a wild wolf snatch up the remains of a fish that had leaped onto the shore. It was quite terrifying back then when she hadn't known of the four-legged canines that ate fish. The thought alone caused her to let out a quiet yelp and step away from the dog. "Just make sure that... dog... doesn't eat me. I don't want to die today." She said, fear lacing her words thickly. Her emerald eyes mimicked her fear by widening as she began to edge off the dock, keeping an eye on the dog.

Her stomach growled again, causing her to place a hand over her stomach. "I think I'm hungry again." She said, the fear completely gone and the dog forgotten in the wake of her hunger. Ariann obviously had a very one-lane mind that cared only about whatever surfaced first within her thoughts. She was a simple-minded creature, one that was incredulously lucky to have survived so long in the waters of the sea.

Along the Harbor's Water

Postby Leila on May 25th, 2013, 10:36 pm

Leila could hear the poor woman's stomach growling, "Well for food, we really only have three options. There's the Fish Market, do Charoda eat fish? You're the first that I've met, and the place is chock full of grilled sandfish. Then there's World's End Grotto, where I work, though I'm off today. They have pretty good food, different stuff, and beer. Sometimes there's entertainment too. Finally, we could go to my house, and I could cook for you, whatever you'd like, though we may have to stop and buy some supplies." She laughed, as she started up the docks, to first return the herbalism kit. "Ya know, I think I'll have pot luck on the grand opening of my shop. There's really not many places to get a cooked meal, I think the average citizen would love it! You both should stop by, the Lord of Council said it should be done by Summer first. Bring food or drink though!"

Leila had Shaco by the leash right next to her, "Don't worry, Shaco is a very well behaved dog. He could use a meal though, but he prefers land meat. And some vegetables. Besides, he helps to keep us safe, just like Ricky." She pointed to the Customs Office, "We have to stop by there first Ariann, that's the Customs Office, they are in charge of all the goods that come in and out of the docks. We have to return this kit to them." She remembered how she'd left Ricky four days ago, remember her finally being bold and going for her first kiss. She hadn't mentioned it yet, because Ariann was here, but Leila was still living on the high from that moment. As she walked up the dock, she purposefully fell back a bit slower until she was next to Ricky, then slipped her small hand into his, gripping it lightly, a smile taking over her face.

"So which would you like to do Ariann?"
