SvanThe Dhani smiled with all the effort of a man seducing an inerbriated woman. Serenity tutted to herself: as if one as young as he would have any effect on a middle-aged woman such as herself. And even if he did manage to stir the dusty cobwebs of desire deep within her, she simply didn't have the
time."No skill with the blade?" Serenity asked incredulously.
"Why carry the thing around, then?" She'd always imagined swords and the like to be cumbersomely heavy. Of course she avoided using them herself, so it was all hearsay. Cutting off his answer midsentence, she hurried on.
"No matter, no matter. As long as you can get the job done." She didn't need to know the ins and outs of his ability. Just to know that he had some sufficed.
The Dhani was picky as to the specifics of the job, but then, mercenary work was dangerous, and hard to find someone to fulfill it. Most Mizaharians had their heads screwed on right, knew that the wilds and the wicked were not to be trifled with. Waving her hands, she nodded tiredly, cutting his speech off.
"Very well, very well. Hired. Come to the Sanity Center every so often to collect your pay and any available missions you might be looking for." Turning to the desk, she rifled through the papers until she found the one she was looking for.
"Kirwen Shenter of the Arrhizal Apothecary has need of new supplies. However, the trading caravan carrying his order never arrived. He'll need to venture out into the Unforgiving with someone to accompany him, protect him, the like. Meet back here on the 28th of Winter." Thrusting him the paper, Svan would see that it had a brief summary of what Serenity had just said.
"Will there be anything else?" she asked the question perfunctorily, as if not expecting an answer - not wanting an answer. She didn't have the time.
OOCCongratulations on your job! Svan will be earning 3gm a day. I will send you a link to a Storyteller Secrets threads soon that you will need to attach to your account. I will be moderating your first mission, but from then on, it will be up to you to moderate two per season to be entitled to your pay. You can begin the thread by arriving at the Sanity Center, and I'll jump in from there. Because Winter is almost over, this will be the only job thread required of you - but starting from Spring, the standard two apply. PM me with any questions and concerns!Artur"Thanks," muttered Serenity, when the chubby young man bent down to gather up the papers with her. Creating a haphazard pile, Serenity shoved them against the wall. She'd get to them later. Besides, it's not like the paper she bloody needed was in there. Sighing, she straightened up, cracking her back as she stood, trying to release the tension she carried in her shoulders. Working in the one sane place in Alvadas wasn't as peaceful as it sounded.
"A newcomer, then? Welcome to Alvadas." She ran her hands through her frazzled hair, rubbing at her dry lips. She wasn't exactly the most comforting first impression.
"There are two taverns that allow for temporary residence. The first is the Cubacious Inn. Basically everything spins and you spend the entire night feeling seasick." Serenity shuddered. A bad experience she remembered too clearly...
"Prices range from one to four silver mizas per day, depending on your luxury.""You can also stay in the Wolf's Cave for one or three silver mizas per night. However, you can only rent a room there if you happen to be hiding a furry animal beneath your skin - it's only open to those with teeth and claws." She shook her head.
"And for heaven's sake, don't ask me where you can find them! I don't know, I don't know!" Once she had dealt with Artur's choice, she moved on.
"Hmmm, cooking, hey? How long do you intend to stay here in Alvadas? I can give you work as a kitchen assistant in the Withering Rose, a restaurant open for dinner and late night. It's a ... little less than cheery, but hey, a newcomer can't complain too might, right? ... Right?" Her voice took on an intimidating edge.
CerunaSerenity was taking a rare moment to herself, her eyes closed, her breathing deep. The flow of traffic into the Sanity Center seemed to have slowed, she'd managed to get the absolute worst knots out of her hair (though it would forever resemble a bird's nest, Serenity had given up on that front) and she had no pressing forms to fill out or requests to fill. It was just her and the serenity of that moment.
Until she heard the door open and close, felt the cold from the outside rush in, and heard soft footsteps approach. She groaned. Loudly. Cracking open an eye, she saw a girl standing there, grey hair and yet still young, with oddly shaped eyes. She looked nervous. Sighing, rubbing the tiredness from around her mouth, Serenity opened her other eye and gave the visitor her full attention.
"'Ello." She waited for a more intelligent response. Had the girl just come inside to look for companionship? Really?
