Skills of Poisoncrafting, Water Reimancy, relevant Arcane skills, Combat, Planning, Tactics, Swimming, Negotiation, Leadership... you get the idea. Usefulness is the key!
As to how many can take part, I'm opening this up to 5 PCs.
