Built into the cliffs overlooking the Suvan Sea, Riverfall resides on the edge of grasslands of Cyphrus where the Bluevein River plunges off the plain and cascades down to the inland sea below. Home of the Akalak, Riverfall is a self-supporting city populated by devoted warriors. [Riverfall Codex]

80th of Summer 510AV

The past few days had been rough for Hex, no food, heart torn apart. But she willed herself to continue surviving, even if just barely. When she walked up to the gate, she looked up at the great structures in awe, feeling much like a small insect would feel next to her.

When asked her business, she reported her occupation as hunter and healer, and that she was entering the city to restock on supplies and food. It was all true of course, and there was little anything threatening about Hex's appearance or demeanour.

Getting past the guards was the easy part. Facing the throng was the real battle.

Postby Garis Rahl on September 8th, 2010, 2:18 am

22nd of Fall, 510AV

Garis patted Fenris, his Zavian steed, as he slowly strode onto the stone bridge. It wasn't the first time that Garis had come across the bridge into his home of Riverfall, no where near it. He had spent the last few days in the wild, for no other reason than he fancied being homeless in the wilderness to being homeless in the city.

He greeted the guards, one of which he knew by name, and passed along the bridge and through the city's main gate. It was still a sight to behold, Riverfall, as it stretched before you, rising high above, with the waterfall cascading down beside it.

Garis remained stoic, though inside he rejoiced at being home. He had become familiar with the surrounding plains and woodlands, but nothing like the familiarity he had of the city. The people, the smells, the tastes; nothing could match it. He continued to stroke Fenris' mane as they paraded at a casual gait deeper into the city.

19th Fall, 510 AV

Ghedan guided Qwinn and Glint up to the gate. The guards waved them through with hardly a second glance, but Ghedan stopped to ask for directions to an inn. A guard replied immediately, apparently having given the same directions innumerable times. Ghedan thanked the guard and then moved his "entourage" through the gates into Riverfall.

This broken path I've chosen, I walk it alone.
Though I feel forgotten, you've carved my name in stone.
In these desperate times, this I plead:
when all else fails, remember me.

Riverfall was a beautyful place, therefore it was normal for Orion to feel a bit sad as he left it behind. The city gates were still in the line of view, but were getting smaller and smaller as chimes passed. One thing Orion was surely going to miss is talking to Taithrosa, a magnificent person that made even Orion succumb to complete optimism. His long hair was now struggling in the wind revealing revealing his colour matched red horns. His devilish appearance seemed to tick off some of the caravan guards, but after hearing that Orion payed as much as 55 golden mizas, they just nodded their insignifant heads in approval. Somewhere along the road to the caravan, the rumour had it they were hiring bodyguards and alike, but the Ethaefal failed to think of a more clever way to get transported to Zeltiva. He could`ve just said he can fight, and he would not only get transport, and not only would it be free, but it would also bring forth a small income. Thoughts swirled more and more as he finally realised he could never such a thing, he could not gamble people`s lives just for the sake of mizas. The City gates were no longer in sight and from here on it was only never ending grass as far as the eye can see. That scene made the Ethaefal shrug a bit, and than his eyes drifted into the sky as he started to remember where he was going.... Zeltiva. It sure has been long since that time, and that Akvatari artist...

46th day of Fall, 510 AV

Lukas loped over to the rock that he had hid his backpack under. The day had been temperamental, the first prey he had come upon had smelled him due to a wind change over the grass sea as they seemed to always do at the most inopportune times. The lion was not a terrible hunter by any means but he had not wanted to travel out of eyesight of the city walls, that kept his selection a bit limited. Lukas also didn't like spending to much time outside the walls due to the large amount of Zith slavers that had appeared. Lukas could probably handle one, two, maybe even three but they used tactics and poisons and he refused to become a slave. Not that he was truly that welcome in Riverfall, he was a sad character in the blink of there eye. Quit, dark, and always watching from a distance. He sat in the top row of the arena, watched people from rooftops. He had no master, no one to have bonded too, and he was not a female, he truly had no place there. Lukas stopped his mind wandering, no time for that.

Lukas sat down next to the rock licking the last bits of blood and gore from his claws. In a bright swirl of light he changed to his human form, easily moved the large rock and was putting on his clothes. Lukas was never relaxed he truly disliked moments when he felt vulnerable, he had heard a funny saying along the road when he had been traveling to Riverfall. An old man had always chuckled when Lukas would creep up next to his fire. The man had a patch over one eye and a wooden leg, he was an overweight pirate right out of the human story tales. He had looked at Lukas and chortled in an alcohol induced drawl, "You can get past a dog, no one messes with a Lion."

Lukas stood having put his pants and cloak on fixing the clasp over his broad bare chest. He had grown to much in the past few months his shirt no longer fit and he hated the feeling of boots over his feet. He set off toward the gate being careful to watch for any of the large serpents that polluted this area. He could smell the horses that were owned by the patron of the Sanctuary. He had been meaning to look into that place, he had heard it was a safe haven for Kelvic. As Lukas neared the gate he pulled the hood back on his cloak, the guards new his face but Lukas liked to remain well known especially among a people he finally felt welcomed among. Lukas headed towards his hut to drop off his belongings and then to be able to go watch the warriors train.
"Sarge, is it man's nature to be evil, or are we essentially good, and corrupted by desire?"

"Good Question, Smitty. PLA-TOON, TEN-HUT! On command, you will consider this question! PLA-TOON! PON- (wait for it!) DER!"

Time: Winter 8, 510 A.V.
Location: The Gate Of Riverfall

Adrin made his way slowly into the city. The guards knew him already. He had been on a hunt but really the time for hunting was done and winter had arrived. His father would be waiting to see him surely. probably his mother too. His fourty fifth birthday would be upon him sooner than he would like to admit. The guards nodded and waved him through the gate. The son of Azeran. He shook his head smiling some. Already the winter chill was entering the city through the winds that came from the north. Adrin knew it was a sign of change. The end of a year and the beginning of another but he had to admire the order of things.

The warrior nodded as he saw his home. The city of Riverfall would always be the place where his heart was but his feet and his mind wandered far beyond those walls and far into the future as well. He had to keep his thoughts to himself though, at leas for now. Father and mother would be waiting to see him again after his long wandering.

He muttered a silent thanks to his Divine Father as well for keeping him. He knew that if his discipline never faltered that He always would. It was time to see what the new season would bring.

27th day of Winter

Fade patted Cahira’s neck as she spotted the gates wincing as her bag bumped again against her neck. An angry welt had formed again from chafing not to talk about her sore thighs. Fade could only go onwards to the famed Riverfall.
The cold was no help to the hurting woman and all that time alone had done no good waking old memories, memories buried and buried deep. Her blonde almost white hair was one big mess of knots and her icy blue eyes were somewhat dulled.

The guards didn’t halt her entrance but she received some glances curtsey of her Ranuri visible just beneath her collarbone. Of all the perils she could encounter that mark could have been her end, she wasn’t only extremely valuable to slavers but she would condescend to a simple touch.
She shook her head and urged Cahira forwards, ever onwards, into Riverfall.

36th Day of Winter, 510 AV

The flight southward had lead to an island the seeming mirror of her home, in every aspect its opposite. Cliffs rose high over the horizon of the grassland as she neared, majestic faces waterworn and glistening between cascades of white. She had followed the coastline closely, horse fleet and enduring, as obedient to her commands as she was to The Call. It had lead her here, she knew, chest swollen with the raw fact of it; here, to Riverfall, home of the warriors.

"Whoa there, steady," Nuavi soothed, easing back on the reins to slow the desertbred. The horse loved to gallop, eyes alit with the fire of it, body radiating heat. He seemed unaware of the winter winds as they blustered over the ocean to rage at the tall stone walls, howling. Nuavi drew her thick cloak more tightly about her, white-blonde hair whipping in the gusts. The gate was in sight, five minute's trot away.

A guard's eye caught hers as she arrived, smile splitting over the dark, black-framed face. "Welcome to Riverfall," he grinned, looking over the travelworn pair. It felt as though he wanted to add something else, something less savory which would make his partner hide raucous laughter. Nuavi looked down at him expectantly, ready to still her horse and wait. Silence split the smile wider. She felt a flutter of adrenaline trip her heart.

"Thank you," she answered finally, then urged her horse onward, perturbed. It was strange The Call had lead to her to the place women often went for children, a place she expected to have no business being. Charcoal burned in her pocket, fragile vines folded in protective layers of cloth. They ached to be pressed to parchment, to illuminate mysteries, to make clear the next step of the journey. Nuavi patted them absently, overtaken by awe of the city as she made her ascent into Riverfall.

1st day of Winter 510 AV

After waking up in the cold, wet grass the morning sun was a big relief but the halucinations weren't helping the sound of steel against steel rings out through the heavy rain, no faces were discernible but Riek isn't one of the fighters, he's at one side, a link in the chain of people forming the walls of an imaginary arena.Back in reality Riek trudges on, in the distance he can make out what seems to be some sort of fort, the walls of what he now sees is a city rise up as he nears the only visible entrance.

As he passes under the gate the guards on either side look upon him with disdain, noticing the worn, dirty clothes and the knotted hair, but he ignores them, and the other twenty people staring in his direction. In his hand Riek holds tight a piece of paper with the address of his dead grandfather's old cottage. All I can hope for now is that he has a good bath...

Postby Daeva Timandre on February 4th, 2011, 7:13 am

85th Day of Winter

Traveling was hard. It always was. Traveling to Riverfall, however, wasn't as terrible as she assumed it would have been. People were generous to her, no matter the reasons that go untold. She had arrived at the gates at the break of the coming morning, and for this Daeva was at least content with. Masou was healed, the wolf giving off a slight limp from the pressure on his thighs, but he was well off, and he would be fine.

The walls of Riverfall were grand, but Daeva did not feel they were imposing. She wondered how she would feel, being surrounded by those that wore the similar pigment she held on her skin. They would still know she was different. They always know. She was a woman, they had no women to call their own. Of this, she knew enough.

The akontak asked the guard bluntly where she would be able to acquire horses, and they pointed, directing her to a cozy abode conveniently called The Sanctuary.
