Featured Contributor: DS POISON For the month of September I am proud to present DS Poison as our Featured Contributor! Poison has taken on his position with zeal and moderates in a way that promotes PCs to integrate with their settings. He has a kind of graciousness in his approach to players and their influence on a city. Not to mention an amazing and thoughtful writing style. Poison fits the setting of his city perfectly. I hope some players take his good advice to heart and start inundating the city with big ideas. 1. What’s your moderation philosophy? To be honest, I’ve never thought about what my moderation philosopy is until now. I just do my thing. I try to write well, give the PCs in my city an interesting thread and talk to them about their experience in Kalinor. On top of that I try to be a fair moderator, play with everybody and not give those I consider friends an unfair advantage. 2. How do you want players to feel in/ about Kalinor? I want players to feel at home in Kalinor. I want them to think that it’s a great city to be in, and I also want them to feel as if they can have an impact on it. There’s nothing worse than a city where the moderators treats their NPCs like their own, special, superpowered PCs and gets mad when the PCs‘ plans clash with their own visions of the city. 3. How do you think characters should approach the city? With caution! Unless you are a Symenestra, Kalinor is dangerous for you. Women get raped. Men are subject to racism. Halfbloods are discriminated against. It’s hard to move around for a surface dweller. The food sucks. Symenestra are venomous. It’s a beautiful, fascinating city, but sometimes it seems to me as if people have the completely wrong idea of it. 4. If you could tell players one thing about your city, what would it be? Kalinor is worth a visit, despite all the things I’ve mentioned above. If you come to Kalinor, you won’t regret it! 5. When you begin a thread with a player what kind of prep do you do? I usually PM the player in question and ask them what kind of thread they want to run. I read their character sheets and talk to them about their PC’s history and motivations. I also frequently check the Lore, and once the thread has reached a page or two I ask them for their feedback. I think that it’s important that moderators and players maintain a bit of contact. 6. If you could start an IC rumor and have it spread through Miza, what would it be? I’d claim that Aquiras has woken or that the gods are going to war and the end of the world is near ... again. I’d spread a rumor that leads to complete chaos and causes people to panic. I’m evil! 7. What is your favorite project to date? My favourite project is Symenos, the language of the Symenestra, although it’s moving along slowly at the moment. I think making up a completely new kind of grammar and words is fascinating! 8. If you were compelled to mod somewhere else, where would you go? If I were to mod somewhere else, I’d either pick Zeltiva or Syliras. I like Zeltiva because of the university, and Syliras is just so incredibly active! I love helping out new players and grading threads, although some of the knights in Syliras are just too honorable for my taste. 9. Can you tell me your Kalinor dream team? What kind of players would you love to have (or keep) in your city and why? I don’t have a dream team, and there is no particular player I want in my city (besides those that are already there). I just want to have a human or two in Kalinor as traders so that I can flesh out that aspect a bit more. 10. What’s the next big thing for Kalinor? That depends largely on the PCs and how the adventure I’m currently modding ends! I have a few plans, but I can’t tell you any details now. 11. What’s a source of inspiration for your writing in Kalinor? The PCs in Kalinor are my source of inspiration. I don’t really have any outside sources of inspiration. 12. What’s something you wish you saw more of within the game? I want more player driven plots. I remember that people were trying to organize a circus a few months ago, and that was great. Sometimes it seems to me as if the players rely on moderators to come up with an adventure a bit too much. I’d like to see players create their own factions, open businesses, unite and form a family or go on adventures, a lot more than they are currently doing. 13. A picture says a 1,000 words, can you show us an image that evokes how you feel about your city? I love Kalinor. It’s my favourite city in Mizahar. So how about a heart with a spider on it? ![]() |
