This thread may be used for all Wind Reach, Thunder Bay, or Unforgiving related ideas you may have. Developments should be fully fleshed out and coded for posting. If you need assistance with coding, PM a storyteller and they can help you out. We are always in need of fun new locations, event ideas, holidays, and legends and you, our dear players, are the best sources of inspiration!

Refer to the tabs below for further information. NPC suggestions should go here.

**PLEASE NOTE**

Please, before you even consider doing a write up for a creature, be sure that you have read and understand all the information on Wind Reach! As I stated before, no 10,000 year old lava dragons. Thank you in advance.

**PLEASE NOTE**

You cannot create a location that magically spawns gold and jewels from vapor or holes in the ground. No finding super wizard mega strong magic sticks or the like. Be fair! Flesh this out as much as you can so that those who may decide to play here will have a good idea of what they're working with. Don't leave any room for excuse to get mad at someone who isn't playing your coined location up to your par.

Refer to locations that have already been developed for some good ideas on how to structure what you have in mind. The above format is available as a reminder of what should be considered in a location.

Misc
Stories, Myths, Legends, Fables, Customs, Holidays, Items, etc should all be completely fleshed out. Again, please sure that you have FULLY READ AND UNDERSTAND THE WIND REACH LORE! Check out everything before beginning here. These creations will be tricky, because we will be checking them for any deep flaw. We'll point them out so that you can fix them.

Some Helpful Tips

Here area few tips Phoenix wrote up that are useful when trying to develop fun and interesting things for the area.

1. Even though Mizahar is a world in and of itself, it is based off of a lot of things we find in our world, otherwise we wouldn't have any frame of reference to go off of. Don't think that because something is common on Earth, like wolves, that it can't be common in Miz. And trust me... wolves are common.

2. Start with the basics and build up from there. If you're developing a place, think
-Who
-What
-When
-Where
-Why
-How

Think about what you would see if you were standing there in your location. What smells do you smell? What do you hear? Why do you smell or hear these things? Why DON'T you hear common sounds? Why aren't there animals, why ARE there animals? A well thought out description of your location really adds to the RP experience for PC's when they use it in the future.

3. Creating creatures aren't that difficult either. The most important thing to keep in mind is that they should have a purpose. It would be a shame to spend time creating something beautiful and well thought out that can't be used to it's full extent by players.

4. Take your time. It's a process. Especially with creatures, attention to detail is key.

5. Have fun. This shouldn't be a chore. If you find yourself writing a location or animal that you just absolutely hate, start over.

Both The Unforgiving and Thunder Bay need animals and plants to go along with most of these locations, but don't be afraid to create anything even if it doesn't have anywhere to go; we can always create locations FOR them!

We badly need:
  • Birds (Effected by Djed storm and not]
  • Water creatures for TB
  • Dangerous creatures for Unforgiving- threat to Inarta, travelers, game/prey AND Wind Eagles.
  • Things created/effected by the Djed storm (Remember, WR and the area surrounding got hit hard by the initial blast, so this gives some awesome leeway for crazy ideas)
  • A Thanksgiving Festival/Holiday to the Wind Eagles for all they do for the City.

For those who are submitting creatures, you may send me (Harrier) a PM for information on existing creatures or those already in development. A mass-bestiary is currently being created for everyone to use who plays in Northern Kalea.

A tree-top sanctuary could work well for Yasi. I like it.

Caves hmm....Maybe there are some strange fire fly type creatures inside that light up in a bright red hue, and depending on how they move it looks like creatures or people? Some kind of caves that has illusions? Perhaps there is a mist in the cave that causes people to act differently? The cave could also be deep and winding, which makes it easy to get lost in?

I was also thinking about the unforgiving, maybe there is a cluster of trees (is that a correct term?) that has heavy moss like crap all over the limbs and the trees are close together with some low hanging branches and other high branches, that people can climb up and slide up and down?

Postby Euthisa on November 28th, 2012, 3:20 am

So this is stemming from a thread I'm in right now. Kovac asks Euthisa to explain the meaning or reasons behind her tattoos. Her sleeve is easy to explain because it's religious, her calf piece is easy to explain because it looks like a dawnsky/dusksky flower, but the model for Euthisa has a dragon tattooed on her lower back.

My question is thus: Does Wind Reach have any "fairytale" stories about creatures or monsters from other lands or creatures tied to the more demon-style gods? I always have a hard time searching around to find stuff like this out beforehand. Figured it would be easier just to ask my fellow Inartans.

Her tattoo looks just like the Misuzaka Lizard found in The Unforgiving, but the lizard is very small, and Euthisa wouldn't have a purpose to have that lizard tattooed. I'm inquiring about something much bigger than that.

If not, I could definitely invent such a thing! |:)

Here are two image submissions:

I found something that might be a better representation of the Skyhigh Stables, if you were interested.

Also I found a little sidelight that could be put in the description of the Stained Glass Gallery!

Cloud screens (goggles): Crude in design despite having gone through multiple tweaks for comfort and practicality, cloud screens are an item exclusively worn by the elite of Wind Reach. The skies above Kalea are often blisteringly dry, and have a nasty habit of soaking up moisture from the eyes of those who ride on Eagle’s backs. Crafted from both hard and soft leathers, colored glass, and a padding that usually consists of wool, they fit tightly over one’s eyes and have an adjustable strap with a small buckle behind to fit around the head. Due to their cylindrical design, vision while wearing them is limited to a central field. To combat any sort of condensation from forming, vents are usually punched into the leather along the sides.

Price: I realize Wind Reach works on the barter system, but I was thinking somewhere in the 20 pinion price range after accounting for materials, availability, and man hours.

Banded Kraik
Fauna

Image

Frequency: Relatively Common but because they eat only infrequently they are infrequently ever seen by anyone other than

Major Features: Their skin is often collected by herbalists for use in healing, because it causes edema used to bring the bodies innate immune system to an ignored open wound, however application must be monitored closely as leaving it on too long can cause skin death.

Abilities: Covered in lethal venom that is incredibly toxic the brush of their skin causes severe edema and when they are hunting they will bite their enemies, and wrap themselves in a knot around the shell of their favorite prey rolling with the curve of the waves as they wait for the delightful crack of the shell as it tries to withstand the bashing against the rocks and the pressure of the creatures firm muscles. Fortunately, these serpents are meek when not hungry and will never go after humans but rather explore and touch them when they are hungry. Kraiks cruise the shallow, tropical waters of coral reefs. But because they are amphibious are able to spend up to ten days at a time on land. Sea kraiks hit the beach to feed as they cannot digest their prey underwater.
Most Common In: Thunder Bay. Though they could survive in parts of the Suvan Sea they have no yet migrated that far as they are a rather sedentary species.

Summary/Abstract: Sav’Leya tries to keep these pests away from flutter cove as their presence disturbs any potential visitors. Used to her company they willingly reveal themselves to her and as such the only easy way to acquire their skin is through her; whether that be through following her with wicked intentions or asking her to bring you the skins of the dead. She herself often uses their skin to heal the Charodae whose skin and unique structure do not swell like most humans and whose reaction is rather much more painful but much more effective as cuts or most commonly punctures heal within days.

History: Once hated for in their curiosity they caused many fisherman harm they were killed when any were caught in their nets, slowly they became more meek, until hardly any were ever seen. Since Sav’Leya has been present many more have been witnessed and because of their learned healing properties they are grudgingly accepted though tales still float through Thunder Bay by worried mothers of the vicious Kraiks who would like nothing better than to gobble their children whole. Though it isn’t true much to their chagrin and relief it keeps their kids out of waters with much more dangerous predators.

Appearance: White with black bands they have a mouth with a suction and no eyes but rather a thin effervescent line that spirals down their body to pick up the movement of their prey. They have either finned tails or tentacle depending on the genetic pool, this variation typical of Thunder bay and Storm Sea aquatics as the finned tailed species are more frequently seen in open water where the fins allow for faster travel, and the tentacled species nearer coral and barges where their long limbs help them attach and feel their surroundings.

Angel-Finned Allipod (colloquially: Water Gecko)
Fauna

Image

Frequency: Very Common

Major Features/Summary: : Incredibly active the swarm appears like a cloud of colour in bays during late spring and summer. Hibernating in the winter they nestle inside coral their pulse almost ceasing. They are often enjoyed by small children whose toes they nibble while swimming and who inspire great delight when found chasing each other around in pools of water left by receding tides. When scared they will flip upside down exposing their shelled stomachs. They are a large part of shore birds diet as well as early pets for young children. Their large eyes are a delicacy however the rest of them is largely tough and tasteless to humans (but are a delightfully sweet snack for Charoda and humans who eat them regularly may begin to enjoy their subtle sweetness).

Social Structure: They travel in swarms and do not mate for life. Mating usually consists of several males chasing a female until one can both catch and scare other males away while copulating. The females are typically twice to three times the size of males and frequently males may work together to capture a female and systematically copulate with her allowing the sperm to compete for insemination.

History: Little is known about their history, it is likely they are new to the ecosystem of Thunder Bay if not elsewhere but are now an incredibly important part of coral life as their bodies contain some of the micronutrients needed for healthy coral growth. Furthermore during the winter when they dig into the coral to make caves for hibernation these spots are later used by other creatures for hiding and other activities.

Appearance: About the length of a thumb they travel in swarms. When caught and held still they look like small geckos with large fins (similar to angel fish) on their sides and a small fin on their tail. They have expressive eyes and little finned feet like turtles. Their undersides are covered by a hard shell. They can be any colour but are typically uniform in colour.

I've had some ideas for traditions but this is the only one I'm happy with at the moment. Will have some more soon.

When an Inarta child is born someone attached to the child, a parent or a relative goes up to the Aeries in search of fledgling Wind Eagles. The younger the Eagle is the better. A feather is taken from the fledgling and is made into a decoration along with a number of feathers from lesser birds such as hawks, falcons and owls. This decoration is then given to the child, usually in the form of a bracelet and when the child grows older, it's often used as a hair decoration.

The purpose of this is firstly to mark the child as a true Inarta as it has a bond with the Wind Eagles. Its second purpose is an attempt to connect the child with a young Wind Eagle in the hopes that the eagle who gave the feather would bond with that child in later life. This belief is based on a legendWill post legend soon! where a Wind Eagle feather reached a newborn Inarta born at the same time as its owner and the pair later bonded.
