Winter 22th 513

The representative of the Kelvic community passed on as of Fall 80th and a new representative has taken her place. This new vulture kelvic, Saler has a new and surprising idea that has shocked everyone. Some are delighted by the idea and others are disgusted by it. He wants the kelvic community to all have housing in the Windmout district. In his eyes doing so would bring the kelvic race in Syliras together as a whole and they can better watch out for the rest. He believes that the kelvic race has been mistreated and over looked in the city, and giving them all a place together would allow them to shine.

OOCThis is how this works, if you are interested in speaking on the matter you post here stating if you think the kelvics deserve to have housing together in the Windmount District, or if you think it's a mistake. This doesn't mean that the Knights will allow this, but who knows, they might and it might also mean something for your PC. :D

The Nine (Kelvics)

All races were accepted within Syliras, as long as they conducted in a orderly and civilized manner. The Kelvics had been a great help to the city, they act as hunters, gatherers, caretakers, and some of them even joined the Order. It was time they got some recognition for their deeds. Rachel signed the petition with the firm words of...

"Yes, I do believe the Kelvics should have decent housings in the Windmount District. They deserve it."

The Nine (Kelvics)

Postby Marrick Corvis on December 13th, 2013, 11:16 pm

Winter 4th Morning 513 AV.

Marrick eyed over the document carefully. He was no politician, but this piece of paper made sense to him. It would be nice to have a warm place to roost when he was in the city. It would also allow many stories of the misunderstandings that seem to happen so often in the squire dormitories to end. With a smooth motion Marrick flattened the document below its first insignia that read-

"Yes, I do believe the Kelvics should have decent housings in the Windmount District. They deserve it."

His clever eyes read it over again in consideration. With a sigh he dipped a quill in the pot and put it to the parchment.

Aye, give them hearth and home so that they may need never stray.

Wanda stared at the parchment. This kind of thing was an issue? She'd had kelvic friends before, and none of them seemed to feel like they were neglected or anything like that.

On one hand, if there really were people that mistreated the kelvic population, would separating them really help their cause? Wouldn't it just alienate them like some kind of quarantine? Something like "Oh, you're a kelvic? You should go live in the animal housing then. We don't think you fit in with regular society."

On the other hand, perhaps the situation for kelvics was worse off than Wanda thought. Were they being attacked or targeted or something like that? The girl didn't think so. At least, she hadn't heard of anything like that happening.

All in all, she believed the motivation behind the petition was well-intentioned. However, to her, it looked like they hadn't considered the drawbacks of such a situation. If the kelvics were given a separate place to stay, away from the rest of the population, it might facilitate whatever anti-kelvic sentiments there were in the city. They might view them as even less human. With this in mind, Wanda finally pressed her quill to the paper:

No, I don't believe that segregating our friends will improve whatever prejudice there is against them.

The Nine (Kelvics)

Ryia looked over the petition that was posted in the market area where her patrol was stationed for the first part of the season. The young squire hadn't realized that the kelvics had been so troubled. She knew of the prejudice in the city, but she hadn't noticed anything blatantly harsh from either side. Over time, she had come to see less kelvics around, though the reason behind it was lost to her.

The new councilmen wanted to make a statement and draw out his fellow kelvics and give them a voice. She understood that, and she wanted to help the kelvics as she did all who lived there. For her, being a part of the order was a lot more than a free meal, place to sleep, and training. It was about more than being a part of a powerful organization. She cared for people and wanted to make a change where she could for the better, not just to make herself strong.

Ryia couldn't decide what to think of the petition, but something didn't seem right about it. She couldn't figure out if the councilmen was really trying to make himself look impressive by doing something major, or if he really was trying something to make the kelvic life in the city better. Still, placing all the kelvics in the district where the horses lived didn't seem like a good idea.

The young squire picked up the qull, her decision firm in her mind and she wrote. I don't agree with this idea. We should support all who live in the city, but this isn't the right way to go about it.

The Nine (Kelvics)

Postby Ethan Ironhorse on December 15th, 2013, 7:01 pm

To Ethan this was the kind of stupid petching bull shyke that one of the council of nine would bring up to help only a few people. Ethan understood that some Kelvics were abused or mistreated because of their wild natures. Ethan had worked with horses almost all of his life and when you thought of something as a dumb beast it was pretty easy to feel superior to it. So Ethan did his best to make sure that he never thought of a Kelvic or animal as stupid, just… untaught. Granted, Ethan knew that if he wasn’t careful, he would began to think of Kelvics as animals that needed to be trained. So his problem with the petition wasn’t that someone was proposing a solution to protect the Kelvic population. No his problem with the petition was the amazing expense of it versus the destruction of the knights training grounds and the stable areas.

Ethan carefully thought about what he would write down. Once his thoughts were clear Ethan put the quill to paper.

Councilman Saler,

I respect that you want to help your fellow Kelvics develop and live in a place that celebrates them. I however disagree with your proposal. The Knighthood uses the Windmout district as a place to breed, train, and develop their horses. In order to develop strong muscles and endurance a large area is needed for the horses, as well as, reducing the cost of feed by keeping open grazing pastures. By sectioning off parts of the district to build housing, you compromise the area needed for training of the horses and knights, affecting the safety of Syliras.

Additionally, you have not mentioned how the knighthood would be able to pay the craftsmen for this additional labor. Now, some of the materials can be quarried or cut down by prisoners, yet masons and woodworkers are needed in the construction of this new housing district. Even if work started today, the housing would be poor or inadequate quality for quite some time, while resources were brought in expanding the living quarters. Please also respect that improvements to housing has always been up to the individual to find the mizas to pay for their services. It is not fair to ask the knighthood to pay for the housing when they already provide housing for your residents.

If your intention is to provide a living space for your community then perhaps the mizas could be better spent forming a second story to a pre-existing district or renovating one. May peace find you, Councilman.

Sei walked around the market place, and saw a small both with a questionnaire. He read it, and smirked. So, they want to move our housing to the Windmount district? He mulled it over. It was true he'd heard of his people being oppressed, and some of them were even slaves. He picked up the quill, and put it to the parchment.

Councilman,

I approve of our movement to the Windmount district, and hope that as you say it will bring us closer to the other races.

The Nine (Kelvics)

Postby Shane Wallsly on December 30th, 2013, 9:54 pm

When Shane heard about funny animal people wanting better houses he thought it was a joke of course until someone pointed out that there was nothing funny about the way they were mistreated and oppressed by the Syliran Knights. He wasn't much a fan of the Knights either so he took the petition and read it over carefully. Housing? He'd always taken his own home for granted and thought everyone got a room in the citadel regardless of race.

When he asked about this the person with the petition told him it wasn't about the housing it was about putting them together so that they could all be together in their own separate area. “Like a prison?” He had asked but this had gotten him only a glare. He shrugged and wrote down what was in his heart “IF YOU WANT TO BE ACCEPTED IT IS BETTER TO LIVE SIDE BY SIDE WITH YOUR FELLOW SYLIRAN. HIDING YOURSELVES AWAY IS MAKING YOURSELVES EVEN MORE DIFFERENT AND YOU WILL BE TREATED EVEN MORE DIFFERENT – SHANE WALLSLY.”

By the time he finished writing all that there was a large queue forming behind him and the holder of the petition shooed him away sternly. He just hoped that someone important would read it and consider his words. He doubted it.

The Nine (Kelvics)

Postby Ellen Ansgot on January 1st, 2014, 11:22 am

Ellen didn't really have much experience with the Kelvic. She had no kelvic friends, and had only actually met a Kelvic once or twice. Something about the petition had caught the young squires attention nonetheless. After reading over the document, the squire gave the idea a thought for a few ticks.

I'm sure they are under-appreciated, I don't even know what they've been up to. I don't know if giving them a house though will make it any better. If it's what they want, I suppose we owe it to them. But what if some don't want to live there?

After this quick think over, Ellen signed the document with her own thoughts, writing "I'm sure the Kelvic house has it's positives, but it may also have it's negatives. I believe the housing should be made avaliable, but no Kelvic should be required to move there."

The Nine (Kelvics)

Postby Halona on January 12th, 2014, 11:45 am

Halona looked over the petition with interest. Kelvic's potentially gathered in one area? That would be interesting, quite so indeed. Other than the fact those Kelvic's crazy enough to live within the walls of such foul smelling city would do so at their own risk, Halona was intrigued to meet another of her species was a dream now closer than ever. But why would Kelvic's having housing in this Windmount District be a problem? Whatever the reason she wanted to meet some of her kind. Just as long she wasn't forced to move there as well.

"Yes, I definitely believe for those Kelvic's who wish to move to the Windmount District should be allowed to do so. As long as all the Kelvic's near Sylrias are not required to make the move."
