The Basics
Name: Valerius Nitrozian
Race: Human
Sex: Male
Date of Birth: Winter 23, 488 AV
Age: 27
Location: Kenash
Alignment: Neutral Evil
Appearance
Valerius stands at 5‘10“and weighs around 140lbs. His hair is a deep copper and usually kept comparatively short, and his eyes are a brilliant blue. His skin is pale, with only the tiniest hint of freckles. He is usually clean shaven.
Valerius despises people that work with their hands instead of their mind, the farmers, the builders and blacksmiths, but he understands the importance of being physically fit and exercises regularly. He would never allow himself to grow fat and weak.
He dedicates a lot of time to his appearance. He’s almost obsessed with it in fact.
As far as clothes are concerned, he prefers black and silver and the occasional hint of midnight blue. He only wears clothes made of expensive fabrics, silk and velvet. They are always elegant and never gaudy.
Although he is not a soldier, he can often be seen wearing clothes in a somewhat militaristic style, perhaps a remnant of a time when he had hoped to fight for his god Rhysol.
Character Concept
Valerius grew up in the wealthy Nitrozian family in Ravok and never had anything to worry about. Since he was a small boy, he was groomed to climb the social ladder and increase his family’s weath. While some children of traditional families rebel against their elders, Valerius has always been content with his position in life - or at least pretended to be.
He worships Rhysol, but he doesn’t condemn those that pray to other gods. He simply doesn’t understand them. Their ways seem illogical to him. Once he even aspired to be marked by Rhysol and serve him as a member of the Black Sun or the Ebonstryfe, but these dreams are a thing of the past now - or are they?
Valerius is a rather cold man. He doesn’t understand the way the people around him think and act. He doesn’t feel things the same way they do. His emotions are either non existant or too strong. He has a problem with physical contact, although a part of him craves it, almost to the point that it drives him insane. He doesn’t only see things as whole, but also all the little parts that make them up.
Valerius is a calculating man. He always strives to better his position in life and doesn’t hesitate to take advantage of others.
Although he feels to some degree disconnected from those around him, he has learned to pretend. He can be friendly and charming, he can even be downright human if he wants to.
Some people enjoy violence. Valerius doesn’t. He’ll drive a dagger into somebody’s heart in the same emotionless way he does so many other things. There’s nothing passionate about it.
Valerius‘ family own dozens of slaves. As far as Valerius is concerned, there is nothing wrong with owning another person, but he doesn’t treat his slaves with unnecessary cruelty. They are too valuable to damage them willfully. He will never befriend a slave or free a slave though.
Some would call Valerius racist as he considers most other races below him, but as far as he is concerned a Kelvic or a Jamoura can simply never match a human. It's a fact. They are too different. If you want to give a Kelvic the same rights as a human, why not go ahead and do the same for dogs and cats, dress them in fancy clothes and make them rule over a city?
Valerius considers himself a scholar. In his late teens and in his early twenties he studied in both Ravok and the University of Zeltiva. Part of him enjoyed the liberal atmosphere there, although he would never admit it. He has a particular interest in old and unusual languages and secret codes.
Valerius pretends that he has absolutely no interest in a romantic relationship.
Sometimes he will sleep with somebody, purely to satisfy his body’s needs, he claims, but never to satisfy some deeply hidden emotional need. Those encounters are rarely gentle and often leave him feeling empty afterwards.
Valerius feels a certain draw to dark things, to depraved things, but he keeps those inclinations carefully hidden.
Outwardly Valerius appears to be almost asexual.
