Syliran Order Recruitment Office

"Why do I wish to join?" The Chaktawe thought to himself aloud. He considered that for a very brief moment, and in that moment found himself yet again feeling that it was the right decision to not listening to his guardians dissuasive words. "I have nothing to hide, Ser Erik. I am here because I have chosen to live my life with integrity. Mine is a simple way of life, but I was born among the sand where it is common place to lose oneself in the desert. I was raised to work together with others and use Ingenuity to survive. "

His words were solemn even though his tone of voice was level and casual. "The world is already such a inhospitable place, it doesn't need another person to make it worse. I wish to help others survive because it is the way of Brother-Crow; the way of Eywaat."

Ser Erik listened attentively at Nayato's words, his tone was firm and he spoke of honor and integrity, not surprising coming from a Chaktawe, but Erik would not judge someone based on their races, only personality and actions mattered. "I see, I respect your people's way of life, Nayato." As he felt a kinship with the Chaktawe, Erik stopped using 'Sir' already. The gruff old knight might look stern, but he lived by the tenants of Sylir, peace and civilization, what was civility without compassion?

"I agree," Erik answered him then the Knight went serious, "I do think your heart is in the right place... however... being a Knight is not just about protecting people, but being able to do what is right, so I ask you, Nayato, when faced with the forces of Evil and Chaos, are you willing to take a life? To protect the good people of Syliras from their taint? Sooner or later, you will face evil, and you will have to make a decision." The Knight leaned back in his chair, giving some time for Nayato to think about his answers, "Reflect about it and answer me."

He fixed a grin on his face, letting his shoulders relax, looking nothing less than calm and comfortable in front of the knight. He didn't need to contemplate the mans question for too long. If he held any regrets, the willingness to join the knights wasn't one of them. And to say that he wasn't willing to face the dark would be a lie.

"I answer, yes. When in the face of true evil I will give all that Is within me to stand up and fight against the darkness; to walk the purest road even if it is the hardest path to follow. The life Kihala grants to all is worth saving and I am not afraid to strike down evil to keep peace and prevent suffering."

At Nayato's answer, Ser Erik required no more answers or explanations from the coal-eyed man, he was worthy in his eyes, whether he was truly worthy or not, only the Windoak, Sylir, Yahal, Tyveth, and Eyris would determine. With a nod, Ser Erik wrote his name on a parchment, stamped it, rolled it up, then offered it to Nayato, "Bring this to the Squire Dormitories, tell the guards and chaperons there that I sent you," Then he gave a firm nod, "Welcome to the Order, Squire Nayato, Sylir blesses you."

OOCNayato is accepted into the Syliran Knight Order as a squire.

I will update your SS thread.

Nayato gladly took the parchment in hand, "Thank you, Ser Erik." He said as glanced from the man to the parchment. "This will be interesting." The soothing words of an females voice echoed through his mind spoken by his guardian Ibiski. He returned a nod towards Ser Erik before he turned to leave to head to the Squire Dormitories.

My Words | Your Words | My Thoughts

If he was made of anything more than malleable clay, he would have felt his heart in his mouth. Though as it was, he could still feel pretty damn nervous. And being a squirrel, it showed pretty easily as well. His tail, easily about the same length as the height of the rest of his body, twitched agitatedly in that way that only a squirrels could, and his own paws would not stop shaking. Get a grip. You've been preparing for this most of your life. They've got to take you in. They've got to! If they don't, I'll come back. I'll try again. I won't stop until they take me in. I won't stop, until I prove that they need me. It was true, he had been preparing for this for a while. His journey to Nyka, his training, his motivation. All to become a Syliran Knight. He knew he didn't have the skills but damn it all, if he wasn't going to push everything he had into this.

But even with all of this behind his back, the squirrel still felt positively dwarfed as he stepped into the office and took a good long glance about the place. The place that many knights had once stood, just like him. Eager and ready to serve the citizens of Syliras from whatever monster there may be. He would join their ranks, soon enough. The history books - although he had not read them, books always seemed to contain knowledge on the most uninteresting and unrelated subjects imaginable - would soon have his name emblazoned upon them.

After his lookabout, the squirrel promptly hopped up onto the counter and sighed out the last of his mistrust. "Erm.. yes, hello. I'm here to become a Syliran Knight." As much as he would have liked to believe that his nerves did not get the better of him, it was certain that they had some influence. His shaky half-smile, that was neither concerned nor happy but certainly not confident, was one piece of evidence that would testify.

Syliran Order Recruitment Office

Postby Valien on May 31st, 2014, 9:46 pm

91st of Spring, 514 AV

He felt...something as he stepped through the doors of the Recruitment Office, approaching the desk. Not nerves, exactly, but perhaps something very much like it. Valien would never have thought that he would ever find himself standing here, in this particular place, to talk to someone about this particular Order. Last year, if someone had told him that he would be doing this, he would have laughed it off. Even now, he still wasn't sure, but there were some questions he wanted answered, and this appeared to be the place to go.

He'd left Serah in their apartment for this. Their chambers deep in the castle were small, with no windows, but they were secure for now, and after just arriving in town yesterday, Serah needed her rest. He gave her strict instructions not to let anyone in the room for any reason, and had come straight here.

Serah, he reminded himself, fixing her face in his mind. Serah was the reason he was here at all.

He took a breath, then walked up to the Knight behind the desk. "I have a few questions about the Syliran Knights," said Valien, coming to a stop. His manner was serious for once, not the light-hearted playfulness that he affected in front of others. "I was told this was the place to get them answered." Maybe he should have added a 'ser' at the end of the sentence. Would the knight have appreciated that?

He stood there for a moment, feeling well and truly out of his depth as he waited for the old knight to answer.

Interesting, not long ago, a Pycon applied to be a squire, and it seemed more and more of those curious clay-people became interested in joining the Order, not that Ser Erik minded, as long as they were worthy, they were more than welcome to join. This one, Ser Erik examined the clay squirrel with interest then he leaned in, speaking with his calm mentor-like voice, "I am Ser Erik, and you are...?" He assumed the Pycon would introduce himself, then he would continue.

"Tell me, why do you want to join the Knighthood? It is no small decision and I want you to know that. Think about it and tell me, don't rush." He leaned back in his chair and would listen to Arch's reply.

==============

Valien

Ah, another potential squire came into the office. He was a man with dark hair and sharp dark eyes. Ser Erik rubbed his stubble as he regarded Valien, "I am Ser Erik," He introduced himself, and how unusual, usually people came in already knowing they would want to join the Order, but this one wanted to ask some questions first, an insightful man indeed, "Yes, this is the Recruitment Office where you apply to join the Order as a Squire, what questions do you have in mind, Sir...?" He gestured for Valien to introduce himself and proceed with his questions.

Syliran Order Recruitment Office

Postby Valien on June 2nd, 2014, 4:34 pm

"Valien," Valien replied, in response to Ser Erik's prompting. "Valien Altare."

Now that introductions were out of the way, he supposed it was time to get to business. He'd spent most of the morning weighing whether or not to come in here, and finally decided that it was worth a try. He didn't have many skills that would be useful in making an honest living in Syliras, but a fighter...he could be a fighter, even if he'd have to learn many things from the beginning. There was only one problem with that.

"First question," he said, " I understand that a Squire's living expenses are paid for. But the thing is, I have a daughter, an eight-year-old girl. My wife...recently passed away, so I'm the only one providing for her. If I were to become a Squire, would her expenses be covered as well?" That was the most important question to him at this moment. If becoming a Squire meant Serah couldn't eat, then obviously, there would be no deal. There was no point in going through all of this if it meant that Serah would be starving at the end of it.

"And second..." said Vailen. This was more of an ideological question. He looked up, meeting the old knight's eyes. "I've just come in from Ravok. I've done a lot of things there that I'm not too proud of. I'm trying...to set things right, though. Would that interfere with my becoming a Knight?" He didn't know how much Ser Erik knew about Ravok and its connection to Rhysol, and honestly, he still didn't know how he felt about that. After nearly thirty years of having the security of his city behind him, he felt lost, set adrift. He didn't know what to do with his life anymore, or what to do for Serah.

He didn't say any of this, but if the old knight was perceptive, maybe he would see that in his eyes.

Ser Erik regarded Valien's questions with a calm demeanor, then he rubbed his greying stubble as he adjusted himself in the seat, "Well, there is an unwritten rule about being a squire," He said, his tone serious, "It is not recommended to have family members that depend on you... yet, until you become a knight, because being a squire will take almost all of your time to prepare you for what is to come. Trust me, you don't want any less preparation." he told Valien as he leaned back in his chair, "So, no, Valien, I am afraid we cannot cover your daughter as well". The rest lay on Valien's decision.

The second question brought an interested eyebrow from the Knight, so Valien was from the foul and evil city of Rhysol, well the common populace would immediately assume him as evil, but not the Knighthood, Ser Erik closed her eyes then huffed, "It is not my place to judge, if you are truly worthy, then Sylir, Tyveth, Yahal, and Eyris will notice you. Whether it would intervene or not," He pointed to his heart with his remaining left arm, "Lies here." He then faced Valien again, "So, Sir, what would it be?"
