Please Read :
The first part of this thread has a specified post order outlined in the wedding plotnotes for the reception. This includes the first dance, exchanging of gifts between the bride and groom, and the various musicians. Anyone who is a musician is welcome to play the NPC Amelia (found at the Syliran Theatre) who plays the flute and sings, and Sayana hired her.

For all other guests, please wait until the first part of the thread is done. Then make one post each summarizing your PC's involvement in the wedding. It will be assumed that you got to watch the ceremony part too unless you would rather state otherwise. The reason for minimizing the number of posts is to keep the thread more concise so it can be finished in a reasonable time. If you really want to make multiple posts as a guest/musician, feel free to PM me. Additionally, if you are not part of the ceremony, not a musician, and not on the guest list but would still like to join then PM me and I'll let you know.

Thank you everyone.

Summer 55, 515 AV - Syliran Theatre
Continuation from the wedding ceremony.

As the ceremony concluded, it was a joyous occasion for all. And most importantly for the bride and groom, now man and wife. They each bore the same fiery chevas mark on the left side of their neck uniting them together. There was applause, general approval and many bright smiles, though hardly any matched the two who had just been bonded together.

Guests were asked to take their chairs to the various tables on the edges of the courtyard. Plates, cutlery and center pieces with flowers adorned the tables. There were also two large tables that were newly laden with food. Remi, of the Rearing Stallion, had outdone herself with various meats, summer salads, breads, vegetable dishes, and many more. There was also ale and wine to drink, in which the cook was happy to help serve from the barrels she had brought. The feast was not excessive, but would certainly accommodate the guests that had come. And while it was merely late afternoon, the food and the smells that came from it would be hard to pass up.

It was somewhat overcast by now, and partway through the reception Makutsi would grace the wedding with a light shower. However, by the time people started organizing the tables to be moved under cover, the sprinkle of rain would subside.

But before the reception could begin in full, there was to be a dance shared between the new couple.

Sayana held Aren’s hands in her two highs as she beamed up at him. Her heart was still aflutter and it was hard to think straight. They were together, and they’d stay together. The courtyard seemed to clear itself on its own accord and suddenly there was a large rectangle of free space. A dance floor.

She looked around and her eyes fell upon the violinist who had offered to play. Sayana had only seen Akvatari on occasion back in Ahnatep and usually as traders of artistic master pieces, but she was quite confident the woman would do a great job. Her only request was that the song was slow and fitting for the occasion. Sayana gave Gwin a nod and a gesture with one of her free mid hands so that the violinist might begin. It seemed as though everything had fallen into place as she stood in her red and white gown holding the man she loved.

OOCSorry if I'm rambling unnecessarily here... Hope you like the music. It was actually difficult to find something fitting.

A wedding. Gwin hadn’t planned to perform at the celebration of two hearts joined, yet she was there, watching the courtyard fill itself with wedding guests. The Akvatari had prepared her violin and music before perching on an upper floor windowsill. From her seat, she not only avoided getting in anyone’s way, but she also had an excellent view over the entire courtyard. Despite the special occasion, she was wearing nothing but the band of black fabric across her torso and a few flower petals someone had scattered over her blonde curls. The fabric had been washed thoroughly and that was as far as it went.

A wedding. Gwin was an employee, not a guest, yet she’d been able to sneak a few glances of the wedding ceremony after rehearsing with the other musicians. The bride, a lively Eypharian, she’d met before, but the striking blue Akalak she’d seen for the first time. At first sight, they seemed a mismatched couple, but their feelings were quite obvious from the way they looked at each other, smiled, held hands and so many other gestures. Apparently Cheva Herself smiled upon their marriage, blessing them with Her mark.

It saddened Gwin a little, the fact that she couldn’t relate. People would advise her to wait until she found someone and things fell into place. Maybe they were right, but then again, Akvatari weren’t built to be happy or love with joy. It tied in with the big question she’d been struggling with for as long as she could remember.

Her musings were cut short as room was made for the first dance. Gripping her violin and bow in one hand, Gwin beat her turquoise butterfly wings and descended into the courtyard to meet the flutist. They positioned themselves in a corner of the dance floor, waiting. When Sayana gestured, Gwin nodded to her and lifted the pale violin. The flutist, Amelia, began with the first slow notes the moment their gazes met. Two beats later, the flute shrunk into the background as Gwin took the melody further. Her bow traveled across the strings in slow arcs, her fingers drawing each note out in lazy vibratos.

As a musician, Gwin strived to show her best technique with every piece she played – this time, however, she’d opted for a relatively easy piece. For once, Sayana had requested something slow. Thinking about it, Gwin herself had realized that simple music, free of embellishment, was quite possibly the best way to begin a wedding celebration. The smiles of bride and groom reflected that too, a silent kind of love that defied words.

Where words failed, music tended to succeed. So the musician poured the feelings she’d seen on their faces into each and every note and let the music carry them through the air. When her bow faded and fell to her side, a faint echo could be heard for just a moment.

Sayana approached her husband and reached up with her high hands to wrap gently around his neck as she kissed him. “Our first dance, Aren. Don’t worry. Just relax and I’ll lead us through it.” The Eypharian spoke in a quiet loving tone as she took his hands with her mids and guided him to the middle of the cleared space. She knew that dancing wasn’t the Akalak’s forte, yet it was hers and she was plenty happy to simply be in his arms and enjoy the music.

“Just watch my smile or the way my dress twirls,” she added with a grin. Sayana placed her high and mid left arms upon his right, and gestured for him to cup her back. Then took hold of his free hand with her high and mid lefts. Her lows stayed mostly at her sides but were available to lift up her skirt as necessary so it wouldn’t drag or get caught.

As the music began, her smile only brightened. The first few steps were simply swaying back and forth to the beautiful violin. She then slowly lifted the arms in which they held hands to make an arch to go under. It was a simple turn but even as she took the slow deliberate steps her dress twirled beautifully. Soon she returned to the original position and started to take steps forwards or back, slowly moving about the dance floor.

The dance continued like this. Sayana every so often spun out in a turn but would always come back to the closed position and smile at her husband. If he was ever in danger of stepping on her dress, it would simply be a matter of lifting it up with her low hands and due to the minimal movement, it was unlikely he’d get a chance to step on her feet.

The Eypharian was actually far more practiced with solo dancing than partner dancing, but she could still move with much grace and by keeping it simple she hoped that Aren wouldn’t be too nervous or stressed out by it all. Plus, it was truly a beautiful song to dance to and she felt little need to try to embellish it.

With the ending of the song, Sayana embraced Aren in a hug and a deep kiss. “There, that wasn’t so bad. Come, I have something special for you.” The bride led him to one of the tables lined with food. However, at the end of this table was a pair of steel vambraces with a simple design engraved into them. “These are for you, to keep you safe. Or safer.” She added with a grin. “I hope you don’t mind that they are a little different from your other pieces of armour. I wanted the best for you.”

Receipt :
Steel vambraces given to Aren
25 gm to Gwin for performing (expert violin)
25 gm to Calisto for performing (competent dance)
10 gm to Kayuqtuq for performing (novice lute and singing)

Aren was glad to see smiles and laughter from all those in attendance, but it was Sayana's smile that drew his eye; it was her intoxicating laughter that provoked an unrestrained mirth in the Akalak. He so often laughed and smiled, yet felt the gesture to be hollow half the time. He had lived too long and seen too much to prevent unpleasant memories from intruding on even the joyful moments sometimes.

There was no sign of such recollections now, though. Aren's life was as perfect as he could have ever imagined it being. He had made peace with his brother. He was going to be a father, and his child's mother was a fierce, intelligent, beautiful woman... who seemed to have married beneath her, but he wasn't complaining. What more could anyone ask for?

"D-dance?" There was the other shoe dropping.

For a moment, he had forgotten that his wife was a dancer. It was her profession, but more than that she enjoyed the activity, which seemed like a rather unfortunate trait for her to have right about now.

Taking his hand, Sayana looked determined to prevent her husband from even making an attempt at objecting, and adeptly manoeuvred him into position. This prompted a sharp look at the poor, blameless girl that the Eypharian had dragged into her scheme. Without music, there couldn't be any dancing, could there? Fortunately, the warrior soon realized this was all really Sayana's fault and his attention fully returned to her.

"Do you have any idea how much I weight?" Aren protested, briefly, "One misstep and your feet will cry out in agony..." He offered a crooked smile, but the Akalak knew that it was only a half a joke. The difference in their sizes was immense and, unfortunately, he wasn't particularly graceful without a scythe in his hand.

As Aren awkwardly attempted to move in sync with his much more skilled partner, he took solace in the fact that the music, at least, conveyed a sense of elegance and serenity which he himself was sorely lacking. The experience wasn't entirely unenjoyable, especially for his sense of touch, but he couldn't say that he wasn't glad when all the shuffling was finally over.

"...Not for my hands, at least." The Akalak mumbled, a cheeky, irreverent look decorating his face as Sayana planted a kiss on his lips. She quickly pulled him towards the banquet table once their dance had finished, where she showed him a pair of steel braces which he had sneaking suspicion might be his wedding present.

"I dunno. They clash with the color of my breastplate..." Aren joked, before a broad smile revealed his true intent. "But, even if they were made of wood, I'd still love them." These vambraces were not simply a gift from Sayana, they were the first gift his wife had given to her husband.

"I have something for you, too." Dipping a hand into the pocket of his black trousers, Aren pulled out a familiar, plainly adorned box. He had kept it because he felt like it had given him luck once before, and it just felt wrong to throw it away.

Now, it found use again, containing the silver brooch that he protected with both hands once he had set the container down. "I saw it in the Bazaar, and instantly it reminded me of you," The Akalak moved to place the ornament on Sayana's hair, "Dazzling and bright, fiery and wild." Once more Aren smiled, but it was not a humorous smile, but one of sincere and honest happiness.

Kayuqtuq beamed as she watched the bride and groom dance to the slow music of Gwin. I'll never be that good. As the piece finished, her heart started beating faster than ever before. She slowly walked to the spot where Gwin had performed, and saw that someone had arranged for a chair to be there. Her eyes turned a nervous yellow. You can begin now. You can do it.

Kayuqtuq placed her lute carefully onto her lap, and adjusted it so that the head went over her shoulder. She looked around, at the groom who had blue skin for some reason, and the bride who had a ton of arms, and waited for the perfect moment. Then she filled the silence with noise.

The familiar first note of the song came out slowly. Silence came again. Then the quick eighth notes escaped from the strings. From there on she barely thought. She just played, and sung. It comforted her to sing in her native language. She hadn't spoken in it for days, and the soft notes made her smile. Her eyes became a soft, joyful violet. The piece went on, and as the last note came out, she let it echo before ending the piece.

Note: Kayuqtuq is only basic in Common, and particularly has trouble with grammar and the structure of words. If you notice she talks a little like a six-year old, that's why.
Note: Due to real life, posts will be delayed. I'm working hard on some non-Mizahar writing, and that plus school and various other things makes it hard to post.

Postby Calisto on August 13th, 2015, 7:47 pm

calisto
She watched, fascinated, as the married couple danced. It was obvious that the man didn't feel comfortable dancing, but Sayana pulled him along with her many arms. The swirled to the music, then stood off to the side as a short Vantha-looking girl sat down to play her instrument.

Calisto reached down and unlaced and removed her boots, and made sure the coin purse was firmly attached to her person. The music this girl played was strange and unique, and her voice was silvery liquid on the audience's ears. It seemed like only a moment before the song ended, too short of a moment, then it was Calisto's turn.

She glanced over at Amelia, the lute player with whom she had spoken the day before. The musician rose from her seat and came near, standing just to the side as Calisto held her starting pose and rested in the silence before the song began. She wasn't sure if many were watching as the danced, she was too busy focusing. Each step, each movement was perfectly calculated, and the wholeness of it was like a story, each step speaking of the other steps. The minor key music was a piece that Amelia knew, one that matched the movement of the dance that Calisto knew. They had only practiced once, but she was confident.

Her muscles felt somewhat strained by the end, in her feet, back, and abdomen, and as the song ended, she had to shake off the depressed fatigue that the dance mysteriously threw upon her.

Postby Beodan Clathony on August 22nd, 2015, 3:29 am

Beodan clapped along with many others as the newly wedded couple finished their first dance together, hopefully the beginning of a great many dances. The music had held him in a trance, his eyes wider than normal, his body swaying to the slow beat. He did not recognize who was playing, but then again, he did not recognize a lot of people here. He had been flattered to receive an invitation from Sayana, and was finding the event to be quite interesting! So many rigid traditions he had been made aware of during the ceremony, a whole world of unspoken rules to be observed.

Though, the gathering was a source of anxiety for him. So many strangers. He felt self conscious. The bride’s dress was so pretty and colorful, like a silken river of crimson. Dan was equipped with pants, and a nice coat with a gardenia tucked into the pocket. Though some people, such as the groom, were wearing high class clothing. It looked very soft. He tugged at the bottom button of his coat, fidgeting under imagined stares. At least he had taken a hot bath with nectar before hand, so he did not smell like a horse!

There was food on his plate, a small piece of bread, and a helping of vegetables. The Kelvic moved the green leaves covered in some sort of dressing around his plate, occasionally going for a bite. The wonderful smells had made him hungry and the cook had been happy to oblige him. But now that it was in front of him, he had lost his appetite. The wine was nearly clear, better quality than he was used to. He almost felt guilty for drinking it. Almost. Though he cut himself off after the glass. He tried to catch Sayana’s eye for some time, when he finally had he gave her a shy smile and held up a small bouquet of Holly flowers then pointed to her. It was a small gift, symbolizing his wish for them to have a long, happy life together. He set them on the table for her to collect at her leisure, and went to go find people he knew.

His friend Calisto had just finished dancing, and appeared to need a rest. Beodan gave the Dhani a nod of appreciation for contributing to the revelry. He thought he had recognized the voice of Kayuqtuq, doing what she loved to do. The Vani was hauntingly beautiful, and it did not bother him that he couldn’t understand the words. Eventually he picked up the courage to socialize with new faces, his amateur small talk bringing him father than he expected, and soon he fit right in with the well-wishers.

Postby Terag on August 25th, 2015, 5:05 am

Terag smiled as he watched the newly paired duo come together or their dance. The music was strange and foreign to him, as it didn't match what he was used to hearing from the very few Isurian weddings he had attended, but it was beautiful and seemed to match the scene just right. Although sitting in a chair, he couldn't keep still and tapped his left foot to the rhythm of the music and his right hand kept the eight notes of the song ever so gently on the table. His smile widened as he changed his attention to the violinist making the music, she was putting so much into the song. She wouldn't make a half bad Isur with that sort of heart. He watched her practiced hands play her instrument, enjoying the sound until the last note rung out.

He got up just as the bride and groom made their way off to another table. After a few long moments, to allow the two to finish their interaction he made his way over to them. When close he coughed to get their attention. "Congratulations are in order, yes? Nice wedding, and you two look very happy. Very good," Terag smiled some, for once a genuine smile that he did not have to force out in an attempt to seem friendlier. Truly, he was happy for the couple and thought their wedding was a thing of beauty, "May the gods bless your binding with strength, and bless each of you with the patience to power to love and live till you can no longer. I wish you the happiest in your days to come, and may you always be strong for one another." With a final smile, and a brief bow, Terag left and made his way to the table of food - as if he could resist waiting any longer.

Quickly he grabbed a plate, piling on several pieces of meat and a bowl of salad that seemed to barely balance on the remaining room with a fork inside it, as well as a mug of ale. The smell of music and the promise of alcohol down his parched throat was almost too much to make it back to his chair, almost. Once back to his chair and table he ate as quickly as he could while still being polite, as the food was delicious. The ale was good as well, it was nothing compared to what he could get at home, but it was enjoyable none-the-less. Whenever he looked up and happened to catch someone looking at him he smiled some, more out of embarrassment than anything, before returning to his food.

Once he was finished he looked up in time to catch Calisto half way through her dance. Slightly ashamed he missed the start, he watched her to finish. Another putting their all into their talents it seemed, the sight itself warmed his heart more than he was entertained. Perhaps this place was better than he had thought to settle down for a while, already he was finding the day more enjoyable than he had thought. It was a good time to be around, and a better time to look forward for more.

Postby Devi on August 30th, 2015, 2:26 pm

Devi lingered near the food table, slowly grazing on the array of food that the Rearing Stallion had prepared. It was good food, though the inn had suffered at the loss of Orin. It wasn’t quite the unique set of dishes the cook had offered at the events she’d been to before. Still, food was food and it was nice not to have to pretend that she could cook without poisoning herself for once.

Sayana twirled around with Aren, her many limbs accentuating her grace flawlessly. She even made the great Akalak look like he had a modicum of rhythm, which was an achievement outside of the battlefield.

Devi hadn’t been to many weddings in her life. The few she had participated in had been spent counting the seconds until she would get to leave them again. This was different. She actually liked the people who were now joined. They looked blissful, like no other singular thing in the rest of the world could complete them so much as the person in their arms.

It caused an unusual feeling to settle in the middle of her chest. Devi had always thought her brother and his family would provide all the love she could ever wish for. She had never sought something deeper.

She abruptly stopped those thoughts and picked at more food from the table before her with one hand, smoothing her deep blue dress with the other. If that kind of depth of feeling came with the need to dance in front of a room full of people she could happily live without it for the rest of eternity.

Nivel enjoyed the ceremony for a little while, at least before she became restless. She felt a bit guilty to be glad it was over but there was only so much time she could sit quietly in a chair listening to speeches. At least she had the company of plushy Orin, Katelyn and Isolde whom she had brought since their real life counter parts couldn’t make it. She had made Orin and katelyn for her birthday earlier in the season but Isolde was new. Nivel hadn’t really had the pleasure of meeting the nuit but she knew she was good friends with katelyn and Orin and had made a appearances at a few of Sayana’s events. The Nuit doll was sewn using the same pattern as the others but Nivel added a bit of soot under the pale seashell button eyes and stitched a small black piece of fabric for her tongue.

For the reception, Nivel made a wardrobe change to the dress Sayana had given to her for her birthday. The dress was a bright emerald green and was embellished with lace and tiny bells. A pleasant jingle announced her presence as she arrived at the celebration and greeted all the other guests.

Even if most of the food was inedible to the pycon, she was still fascinated by the look of it and jumped along the different tables inspecting each individual spread. She gathered a few things onto a small desert plate and took it back to her three fabric friends. When Nivel wasn’t looking one of the guests stole the small serving of food, when they she glanced back all she could see was katelyn covered in crumbs.
“Katelyn how could you!” Nivel lectured her inanimate plushy with her clay arms firmly placed on her hips. “I’m going to make something special for orin and his friend, and you won’t get any of it”

Nivel grabbed some clay that was set aside for her and ball and started to sculpt it into something delicious for the chef and his spooky friend. Creating food for a plushie skilled in the culinary arts was a lot of pressure but Nivel was up for the challenge. Sadly she didn’t know enough about food to make an existing dish so she used what was presented before her and made her own unique convection. After pounding, shaping and smoothing the clay she was able to create an amorphous blob that sort of looked like a six eyed frog monster.
“There you go, I hope you like it.” Nivel said happily before throwing a glance back at Katelyn which would have been a shameful glare if the pycon could contort her face with more skill. She placed her culinary masterpiece in front of the two customers and they obviously loved it by their stagnant expressions and static movement.

The sky began to cry and everyone had to retreat to the shelter of the theatre to stop from being soaked. It was quite a nuisance but most people seemed to be done their food anyway and it was time to start the dancing with was something Nivel been looking forward to. Nivel watched the couple do their romantic slow dance like everyone else but couldn’t help glancing up at the mysterious violin player. The musician was one of those unique creature she would spot from time to time crafting paintings or sculpting. They never seemed to pay much attention to the pycon but she desperately wished to know more about them, although it seemed that wasn’t going to happen tonight.

The rest of the night was spend dancing almost exclusively with her three fabric dance partners but she had a few people cut in and dance with the clay creature. If it weren’t for plushy orin having a bit to much alcohol near the end it would have been a prefect evening.
