Located on the docks, the outer ring of the city, just around the corner from The Slave Market, or sometimes over near the Shipyard, floated a medium sized structure looking something like a cross between a tavern and a boat, and in fact it was both. Granted, most buildings in Ravok floated, but this particular one was also mobile. And while it did have a very tavern-like feel, and indeed had a full bar complete with saucy serving wenches, the real lure of the place was the extra mizas to be had.

With the destruction of the C.E.B. and the loss of everyone's employment information, many people lost their jobs, or were unable to get new ones. The Vitrax and the Citizen Registration Office did their best to take up the duties of the C.E.B. but it simply was not as efficient. And when losing such an establishment, it is inevitable that alternative establishments begin to crop up. One such place was The Spot, a sort of catch-all location for work of almost any kind within the city. People who needed things done submitted their requests, and the The Spot saw that they got done. It was not for full time work, but for individual jobs, and to get the very best jobs one needed to build up a reputation with The Spot. Though it was far from perfect, the The Spot was quick to become a focal establishment in the city, and the perfect place to find a few extra mizas.

While the true lure of The Spot was the work, it was also a tavern, and served food and drink all night and day. The food wasn't the best in the city, nor was the alcohol the highest quality, perhaps, but it did give one something to keep themselves busy while waiting for new jobs to be posted. There were also a few other things to keep one busy. A knife and dart throwing target adorned the wall on the right side of the room, and people often passed the time competing against one another. In the back, to the left of the bar, was a small stage for singers and musicians to perform on. The stage was first come, first serve, and there was no time limit to how long one could stay on, though it was often considered a courtesy to let others have a chance after a bell or two if there was a line.

Along the left wall laid the job board, where all the various jobs were posted, and each job was filed into one of the many different categories available. As it was with the stage, most jobs were first come first serve, and as long as one earned the right to access the job, they were free to take down the post and speak to the barkeep for more information.

OOC Info :
Here are the details of how the job/quest board works:

There are three levels of jobs/quests to be had. Everyone starts off on the first level, and works their way up. After three of jobs/quests have been completed in a particular category, they can access the next level, which will give them harder jobs/quests, and greater rewards. You do not have to wait for a quest to be graded to get a new first level quest, but you do have to complete the quest/job before you can ask for another. However, second level or higher jobs must be completed and graded before you can start another in a particular category. Some jobs can apply to more than one category. When accepting them, you have to state OOC which category you'd like it to apply to. You can only pick one.

Completed quests will be kept track of in the post below.

Also, if you don't see any jobs here that your character could do, feel free to PM and ask for one and I'll try to come up with something.

Here is a video kind of describing real quickly how The Spot works. Feel free to watch it, and if you have any questions, post them here

The Spot

57 Spring 513

Clyde had not back been in Ravok to long, but already he was itching for something to do. He felt like he was a bit out of practice. What better way of re-familiarizing himself with the city, than going to a bar, after returning from fighting in Syliras, and his stopover in Mura?

And low and behold, it turned out there was a new spot, literally named that, to drink at. He had heard of it on his ride in, in passing. Might as well check out the new establishment, he thought to himself.

As he walked in though, something did catch his interest. A large board along the wall, which he soon realized was a jobs board. Interesting, to say the least... He suppose he did not really need a job... But perhaps there would be something of interest for him there?

He looked around. There were some basic merc jobs up. Not really his style. Some service jobs, waiting tables and such... Crafting... Making things. Blacksmithing, why would he do that? But something did catch his eye, a word he knew all to well which stuck out. Glyphs. Glyphs? Why was that there?

He took the posting down, and looked it over, wondering what this job was about. He was a pretty skilled glypher though, surely he could do it, and earn a bit in the process.

Walking over to the barkeep, he showed him the paper.

"Whats this job about? Perhaps I could do it."

I am actually in RL a super intelligent hamster from Rhode Island, with a 7 year plan to take over the world.

Update 6/2/18- 1:10AM EST: His 7 year plan a success, and several weeks ahead of schedule, Clyde leaves to oversee the world he has taken over.

No new threads after end of Spring 518-Will still be checking for PM's occasionally, but focusing on a new character.

Graders note: :
Please be aware Clyde is a master Magecrafter. He therefore should not be gaining full xp(or possibly shouldn't gain any at all) for simple tasks related to this magic, such as low level MC items, particularly for repetitions of creations he has done before. Feel free to contact me if unsure of a instance of his magic use compared to his skill level.

The 1st Day of Spring, 513 A.V.

Postby Coltyn on March 2nd, 2013, 2:54 am

It was the first day of spring, which meant it was also the first day of a new year, and Coltyn was out for an early morning run. It felt liberating to be able to get back to a normal routine. The oppressive winter season of Ravok always managed to put a pinch in his regiment, regardless of the fact that others claimed it to be ideal compared to the winter of most other regions. As far as he was concerned, for three months, the air felt too heavy to enjoy a healthy morning run on a regular basis. However, once spring rolled in, the young Ravokian was able to get back on his path of wellness.

Now, that's not to say that running in Ravok was an easy task even in the best of seasons. No, not at all. With its winding paths and narrow bridges - not to mention its network of platforms that had neither a path nor bridge connecting them - running in any direction, for an extended period, was certainly a challenge, but it was one Coltyn oddly relished.

Making his way around The Merchants Ring, he sprinted by several vendors who were readying their shops for what they hoped would be a busy day of trading and selling. He could see it in their faces as they set up their carts or open-faced shops, eagerly polishing or skillfully positioning their best wares to catch the eye of a wandering shopper. Regretfully, for them, Coltyn was focused more on the path before him and less on pricey trinkets or sparkly baubles.

His destination, on this particular morning, was The Shipyard. He knew, from experience, that there were larger and longer spaces to run along in that part of town, even if it meant circling a warehouse here or retracing the length of a dock there. The odds were in his favor that he could get a good run in before things became hectic, as they usually did once The Shipyard awoke for the day.

After several laps, over and under and around the network of platforms, ramps, and stairs, Coltyn found himself feeling somewhat parched. Thankfully, there was an establishment nearby called The Spot that served exactly what he needed - a rejuvenating cup of water - and, as far as he knew, it opened early. Actually, if he recalled correctly, it rarely closed.

Before stepping upon the barge, he wiped his brow, ran a hand through his mussed hair, and tucked in his damp cotton shirt. There was no reason to enter the place looking like a begger. He worked at a respectable shop himself and expected his patrons to look and behave a certain way, so why should he himself treat other shops any differently.

Upon entering the main taproom, from a staircase bathed in a spray of warm morning light, he was greeted by a young serving girl. He tried to recall her name, but having only met her once or twice before, it eluded him. However, what he did recall rather quickly was how overly flirtatious she was.

"Greetings!" she exclaimed as she swiftly approached him, which sent her voluminous skirts on a bit of a twirl around her long legs. "Welcome to The Spot," she continued as she entered Coltyn's personal space, getting in nice and close. "How may we and, in particular, I be of service to you on this fine morning?" she asked as she flipped her reddish-brown hair over her left shoulder and dipped her right one closer still, brushing it ever-so-gently against his bicep. "Oh my," she gushed with a flash of her bright eyes. "Are you smuggling cannonballs in your shirt?" she exclaimed as she escorted him to the bar.

Letting nothing more than a chuckle slip from his lips as he allowed her to draw him toward a stool, Coltyn began to reply once he took a seat, "You're very kind..."

"Mistress Lark, but you may call me Alice," she coyly informed him.

"You're very kind, Alice," he repeated, making sure to include her name in a tone that sounded equally playful, "however, my needs are few on this fine day."

"Oh?" she replied before her lips began to form a pout.

"A cup of water and..."

"Aaaand?" she began to brighten for the briefest of moments.

"How about a piece of fruit? If that's not too much to ask," he replied with his most charming smile.

"You, sir, should consider yourself lucky that you're so easy on the eyes," she lamented as she slinked off to fetch his order, "because, if that were not the case, I'd most likely be directing your meager business elsewhere."

Watching her go, Coltyn began to feel a little guilty for taking up a spot at the bar. She was right, his order was rather pathetic, but, after all, it was what he needed and nothing more. Standing, he thought that perhaps a stroll around the room would help to win her back over to his side. It stood to reason, the less she felt obligated to tend to him, the better.

Well, what do we have here? he found himself wondering as he now stood before a board full of what appeared to be job postings. Perhaps if I show interest in one of these, she'll find me more appealing, and not toss me out, he continued to reason as he plucked a notice off its nail and made his way back toward the bar.

"Order up!" she barked as she unceremoniously dropped a cup of filmy water and a sad looking piece of dried fruit before him, just as he reclaimed his seat.

"Thank you. Now, before you run off, what can you tell me about this...?" he asked as he pushed the slip of parchment across the counter toward her. "Who exactly would I be investigating and how private would I need to be?"

The Spot

Postby Inoadar on March 3rd, 2013, 4:07 am

10th day of Spring, 513

Inoadar had been considering the risk of attending the slave market. He needed a few bodies to conduct further tests with his poisons. Nothing would be lethal, though the effects may well have some permanent residuals.

He'd been by there before but had made no bids, lacking the confidence to put his stolen papers to the test. But recent events had convinced him that his papers worked perfectly. They were, in fact legitimate, they just weren't his exactly. They belonged to a man who'd died in front of the Temple during the Rising Dawn rebellion. A man whose description fit Inoadar very well. Inoadar could only surmise that the more in-depth city records had been in the CEB and were now ash.

So there was nothing to truly contradict the papers naming him 'Nolan Parnell'. Something caught his eye by the waterfront. A new structure was being moored near the slave market. This must be the place the ravosalamen had mentioned, "The Spot".

After spending the morning finding nothing worth getting in a bidding war over at the Slave Market, he decided to check out The Spot. It was a satisfactory recreational establishment. The food was good, the drinks were refreshing, the gaming was standard. Nothing was so extraordinary as to be memorable, exactly...

Inoadar found his interest suddenly piqued. He found he had been hasty in his assessment. On closer examination, he found many of the job listings entailed work he would find interesting, challenging even. He pulled one of the cards and asked the barmaid, a sweet thing that definitely knew how to display herself. She put on a smarmy display of sarcastic sympathy, patting his cheek and telling him that 'these jobs are only for proven patrons', and that he needed to start with the other board.

He thought he would be disappointed, but found a number of worthwhile tasks, particularly one involving the use of poisons to aid in guaranteeing the outcome of an upcoming prize fight. 'Right up my alley' he thought with a smile as he took down the card headed "Pit Fight".

It had no payment bracket filled in. He appreciated the reality of that. Whoever underwrote this commission clearly knew how these things worked. He approached the bar, after flashing and receiving a wink from Alice, and presented the card to the barkeep, an amiable fellow that seemed well liked by everyone.

"Nice place." he said plainly, knowing the man would see the card. He said nothing about it, wishing to show both patience and discretion. If time was a concern, the man would respond quickly. And there was no need to announce something that people right here might be fool enough to bet on.

I would prefer you called me "Nolan Parnell"...In fact, I insist.

The Spot

Postby Kelmar Hedos on March 3rd, 2013, 4:29 am

1st of Spring, 513AV

Kelmar descended into the Spot, the cowl of his hood casting a shadow over his face in the dim light, his cloak following shortly behind him as he made his qay quietly down the wooden steps. Around him were the motions of good business for a tavern - men throwing darts and knives at the target on the right of the room, patrons sitting at the tables or at the bar ordering (and often grabbing at) the serving girls, a stage in the back where a few were performing and a few more looked impatient for their turn.

But that was not the reason Kelmar was here. If he were looked to catch wind of hearsay concerning the city, then he would do so at the docks or maybe somewhere around the city center. If he were looking for a particular kind of rumor or rendezvousing with an associate he'd do it at the Sliver. While this place was probably just as good a rumor mill, it wasn't the most accessible on his own two feet, which was Kelmar's preferred mode of travel. That and there was often a very specific type of crowd that gathered here.

No, the reason for the agent's arrival was the long wall of notices and posts on the left of the room. Since he'd become more capable at sniffing out rumors and tracing them back to people who he could offer his services to, jobs came more easily and frequently to the point where he was well set up. Even so, having someone else doing the legwork wasn't bad either, and with his recent plans some extra mizas wouldn't go amiss. Another source of employment and practice was never a bad thing. Making his way over to the wall, avoiding the patrons and waitresses on his way, he scanned the long line of posts for something that fell within his areas of expertise.

One particular notice cross his eye, falling easily under a particular field of his. The call for a stealthy investigator to discover the facts of a doubtful and suspicious spouse was something Kelmar could answer simply and quickly enough. Taking the paper from the wall, the agent walked over to the bar and rapped his knuckles against the counter. "Pardon," Kelmar called, "but do you know who I should talk to about this job?"

Clyde Sullins

At Clyde's request the bartender walked over and took a look at the paper, quickly reading it. It only took him a moment to read it over, considering that fact that there was not much information on it.

"Ah, know a little magic, do you? Can't say I know much about that myself. The name's Adams, Bohir Adam's. What's your name?"

After Clyde gave him a name, Bohir didn't care if it was real or false, the man would pull out a large book from beneath the bar. The book contained all the information about the various jobs people wanted done, as well as their confidential information, and other records. Bohir quickly flipped through the pages until he reached the one he was looking for.

"Ah, here it is. The Healing Hand's usual glyphter apparently sprained his wrist. They need someone to draw up ten scrolls for for a shipment of supplies they are sending out to the Southern Trade post. Apparently a few people have been coming into the city sick, and getting other passengers sick, so they want to try to nip it in the bud before they even get on the boat. Pay is seventy gold mizas. You'll meet them at the Healing Hand, draw up the scrolls, and then they'll cast their magic into them. Come back here for payment. Got it?"

OOCSolo quest. Make a thread in which you make the scrolls, have one of the healers cast some healing gnosis into them, and then report back here when the thread is finished.

Coltyn

"Oh, you'll have to talk to Bohir about that. I'll get him for you."

Alice waved over the bartender who nodded in her direction. He was busy pouring a drink for someone else at the bar, and finished doing that before he moved over to give Coltyn some attention. Noticing the paper immediately he smiled and reached behind the counter, pulling out a big, thick book.

"Interested in the P.I. job, are you? The name's Bohir Adams, and who might you be?"

After the initial introductions were over, Bohir would flip to the page regarding the job Coltyn was asking about. The book was well worn and was obviously used a lot, and Bohir knew right where to find the job in question.

"Ah, here we are. The client's name is Alira Wickham. She suspects that her boyfriend, Thomas Trente, might be cheating on her. She wants somebody who can keep an eye on him without him knowing he is being watched, and find out if her suspicions are correct or not. You the man for the job?"

OOCSolo Thread. You have the freedom to make up details about Thomas and whoever it is he is cheating on her with, or if he is in fact cheating at all. Be creative and have fun. Also, I see that Kelmar tried to claim the job also.. so I'm going to point him in your direction. You don't have to work with him, but you can if you want.

Inoadar

It did not take long for the bartender to notice Inoadar, and his card. The bartender only nodded at first, finishing up what he was doing, before walking over to the man and introducing himself.

"Thanks, the girls and I try to keep it running smoothly. The name's Bohir, what's yours?"

Bohir would not care whether Inoadar gave him a false name or a real name, that was none of his business, though a name was required to progress any further. Once Inoadar revealed some sort of identity, Bohir would reach beneath the bar and pull out a large book, containing details about all the jobs. He quickly flipped to a certain page, and between the sheets was a small envelope, which Bohir discreetly slid across the counter to Inoadar.

"They just need a few bags of salt transported to the Southern Trade Post. Shouldn't be hard. The information is all in the envelope." he said, spouting off something about the first thing that popped into his head in case anyone was watching. The bartender shut the book and went back to work. Whenever Inoadar got around to see what was inside the envelope, he would find the details of his job.

OOCYou said you wanted to do something with Imass, and that's cool. I'll leave creative freedom to you guys. I already intended to allow you to create the NPCs for the thread, so feel free to do that. The important details are that somebody wants somebody else to lose the fight. Since you guys seem to have ideas already, feel free to roll with them.

Kelmar Hedos

Bohir walked over to Kelmar after finishing with the customer he was serving and glanced at the notice, a frown immediately coming over his face. The bartender reached behind the bar, pulling out a large worn book and flipped to a certain page, nodding his head thoughtfully.

"I'm sorry, sir. But it looks like there has been a mistake. Somebody else claimed that job earlier today. I don't know how it got put back up there. I'm afraid you'll have to see if something else interests you."

The bartender had nothing else to say in regards to that, but one of the waitresses, Anna, took note of the situation and after Bohir was out of ear shot she quickly made her move. Sauntering up to Kelmar under the guise of a flirtatious barmaid trying to earn an extra tip, Annabelle leaned in seductively, close enough that only Kelmar would hear her words.

"If you want that job, the man who took it is walking out the door right now."

Annabelle nodded in the direction of Coltyn, who was just opening the door to leave. It was up to Kelmar what to do with that information, and whether or not to reward the barmaid for it. That was, of course, what she desired, but she was smart enough not to demand a tip. It was better if her patrons came to her willingly, whether they tipped or not.

OOCSorry, but the jobs are all first come first serve, and Coltyn posted first. That being said, if you two want to get together and make something interesting happen, you are more than welcome to. I always reward creativity. Oh, but don't do it in this thread, make a separate one if you're going to do something with each other. And of course if you want you can always just pick a different job.

The Spot

Postby Kelmar Hedos on March 5th, 2013, 12:04 am

So, it was a mistake on the part of the manager. A shame really, as Kelmar was beginning to relish the chance to practice his skills on a target who wasn't from his general list of merchant lackeys. Regardless, there was nothing worse for a stealth mission than having to work with someone else. Too many uncontrollable factors, and Kelmar didn't often work well with others. He had a tendancy to unsettle people around him, which was the exact opposite of what he needed. Without lingering to hear the waitress' words, he made his way back to the wall, scanning it for another job that he took interest in.

If the operative was disappointed or annoyed or frustrated, it wasn't outwardly expressed, his face the same set lines of disinterest that helped him maintain a certain atmosphere arouhd him, an aura almost. His eyes moved back and forth along the wall as he slowly wapked across it, letting all the information sink in until he came across a job that sparked his interest. While the pay wasn't as good as the previous task, it offered potentially something much more powerful and useful. An escort to the Nitrozian party was wanted, and it was an opportunity to learn some names in the city and potentially gain a new contact. Connections were worth more than gold in Kelmar's line of work.

Tearing off the notice, he returned to the bar and found the man who had opened the ledger before, ignoring the upset or annoyed look from the waitress who he left standing there. "How about this one?" he asked, unfolding the notice out on the counter. "Is this one taken, or may I do it?"

Kelmar Hedos

The bartender returned to Kelmar after a moment, having many patrons to serve, but when he saw another of the notices in Kelmar's he quickly nodded and reached for his book once more.

"The escort job, eh? Looking for a good time, or information. Don't answer that. My name is Bohir, Bohir Adams. And what should I call you?"

Once Kelmar gave his name, or any name really, Bohir would flip to the page in the book that detailed the information regarding that specific job. This time there was a small envelop placed in the book, which the man handed over to Kelmar. The envelop contained all the details of the job. In short, he was required to meet up with a woman named Allison Nitrozian, one of the blooded daughters of the Nitrozian family. The escort was not actually for her, but for a friend of hers. Allison wanted to interview the candidate first, to make sure he would be a good fit. He had to be at least somewhat handsome, polite, respectful, and able to pass as a gentleman when introduced. If he could manage to pull all of those things off, he would be allowed to do the job.

OOCFeel free to solo the interview thread, though you can skip that if you want. You may make up whatever personality you want for Allison, but don't reveal any info about your "date" in the thread. That will be kept a secret until the actual Nitrozian party begins. I'll be making the open thread later this week, and I'll give you your date then. If you do the interview solo, you might get a bonus reward.
Forecast for tonight... Dark

The Spot

Postby Dye on March 8th, 2013, 1:10 am

1st of Spring, 513 AV

Her first day back in the city after a season in the wild had gone well, so far.

First a leisurely stroll down the winding paths and narrow bridges of the city, then a trip to the Slave Market to see the men and women who were in the same position she once was. That is, the ones that hadn't seized their opportunities and fled.

The Ravosalamen had been talking loudly that day, words striking her ears with every turn and every foot of ground covered, rumours of everything from murders to a new place in town, somewhere people have been getting jobs.

I need the mizas, and the men have been boring and fruitless pickings recently... Bones with no marrow to suck.

Feet taking her through a crowd of hardly washed, sweating and chained slaves to the skirts of the market and to the site of the tavern outside, The Spot bobbed before her in little time.

A few more well-placed steps carried the Kelvic into the tavern, her piercing eyes flitting from one sight to another.

There were men vying for the position on the stage, a young... Ooh, luscious girl serving people, the bartender polishing a mug - probably already clean, no doubt - and the board along the left wall, large enough that any fool could tell that this was the place where jobs were listed.

It seemed as if they were organised by both category and "level", so to say, so a quick cursory glance had Dye snatching one from the board and inspecting it.

"Man Seeking Woman", it read.

Taking the notice to the bartender, Dye set it down gently on the bar and smiled while batting her long, thick, reddish-black lashes.

"What does this job entail?"
