Character History

Mother: Leia skydancer of the Opal clan. Her mother did not get the Healer gift from the clan but she is well versed in herbs and foraging. She was married to the Ruby clan to ensure crafted goods came to the healer’s with good quality. Leia is Goren’s second wife. It was not expected for the web to produce a healer child through Leia. Her mother is an earthy sort and practical. She died in child birth leaving Amunet to care for the youngest son she had just birthed.

Father: Goren “the Chisel” Shimmerstone of the ruby clan of the Shimmerstone Pavilion. Her father was not Akhal but he is highly regarded for his skill in carving and tooling. His knotwork tooling of leather and wood was very good, but his true skill lied in weaving knotwork glyphs onto stone. Gifted in glyphing with a preference in stone carving, it may become soon that he create his own Pavilion as his craft, honor, reputation and family grows. In their particular pavilion, Goren is Heir in case his father the Ankal is killed.

Childhood: In a tight nit family unit everyone works together. Amunet grew up happy until her mother died when she was twelve. She had been learning her herbalism and basic healing techniques from mother and was assisting the midwife with the child birth at the time. Not being able to mourn her mother much she was left to care for the newborn son who is Goren’s youngest child. Luckily the infant took to the milk from the zibri just fine with little issues. The girl had to grow up quickly helping her family’s crafting, taking care of their illnesses as best as she could till they got to another healer where the issue was beyond her skill. Now at eighteen her father is in no hurry to marry her off as her skills are needed. Seeking a Healer to raise her skill has been a struggle.

Image Amunet bonded with an older mare when she was 10 years old. The mare saw something in the serious young one. Shetanae herself was a fully grown 2 year old mare and protected Amunet as if she was her own foal. The bond strengthened quickly earning the girl her place.

Amunet learned a lot about strider biology from traders that came through for father’s skill as she helped with the ills of strider and Drykas alike. A single braid down her left side has a piece of her mother’s hair ribbon as a reminder of where she comes from. Amunet favors her mother in appearance. Now eighteen and her younger brother is old enough to be cared for in general by the whole clan she seeks to learn more of the healer craft

Language

Fluent Language: Pavi
Basic Language: Common
Poor Language: none yet

Housing

Location: In the Shimmerstone Pavilion that is settled somewhere behind the main ruby clan pavilion in Endrykas.

Note on Yvas:
The Drykas use what is called a Yvas on their horses rather than bridles and saddles. A yvas is what equates to a girth with an attached breast collar combination hung with hooks and topped with a small flat hand grip that lays along a horse's shoulders. The Yvas is often placed over a colorful pad that acts to protect the horse from the rider. The grip fits over a strider's withers which holds the yvas in place. It almost looks like the type of thing vaulters used on their draft horses, though it is more functional than a vaulter's pad. The horses can free themselves from them if they got separated from their riders, and do not have tack to entrap or tangle them when they are running loose. The yvas has ring tethers on it for handling a set of wither bags and a waterskin, and is often decorated in knot-work beading that identified the horse and rider as part of a specific pavilion.

Drykas ride without any headgear or bridles on their horses at all. They do not use any halters either.

Special Events
(Please see skills list for link)
51st of Summer 515
In the Dark
Amunet: The lantern will only glow blue when there is a ghost nearby. The chest contains 78 gold miza and an ancient painting of the Drykas using Webbing that is worth 100 gold (can only sell to another PC).
Your Windmarks and scars are completely gone.

77th of Summer 515
One Half of the Whole
In the seasons to follow Amunet would find that her new companion proved to be one of, if not the fastest Hunting Cat in all of Endrykas and the Sea of Grass, out running even the most highly trained cats. No matter where the young woman went, the cat would always be able to find her and those she cared for.

Caiyha's Tear
41st of Fall 515
In Amunet's vision she was faced with the image of a black snake weaving through the golden sea of grass. The snake soon came to a path that split off in two different directions. At the end of one path her father and the man she was betrothed to stood shrouded in shadow, and at the other, the reflection of a half moon over a glassy pond. The goddess led the fiery harried woman into the pool and when she resurfaced on the other side everything seemed right with the world.

It Must Live On
4th of winter 515
Amunet is initiated into the pathfinding magic in a rather forceful and tragic turn of events. The Healer has no idea what this is, what its called or where it came from. She doesnt even understand exactly how she got it.

Laviku's Plunder
33rd of winter 515
Pirates raid Endrykas. Amunet is captured but by the grace of all the Gods she returns back to Endrykas. She discovers her entire Pavilion and family was either killed or suspected been captured except her little brother Drak.

A Little Payback, If you please
64th of winter 515
Amunet returned after surviving escaping the pirates in time for the very pirate ship having been crushed and the Drykas victory over them. She scavenged a short bow and quiver.

The World That You Know
58th of Spring 516
After a horrendous tour through the caverns deep to end up in a Mine of slaves and brutal cruel slavers, Deathspark had perished in defending the Drykas investigators. Once they was well away from that place, He had left something behind for them.
For Amunet, a pair of copper bracelets. When both are worn on the same arm, she can feel the strongest emotion within a ten foot radius. When they are worn on separate arms, she can hear the thought behind a single strong emotion like rage, fear or grief (same range). The bracelets absorb djed from the world around them and take a long time to charge. They can be used three times per season.

Amunet

Healing Gnosis Mark One

50th, Summer Season, 515 A.V.

She chuckled softly as not to wake the elders that may still be resting. She was finishing preparing Shetanae and her foraging bags, any needed supplies to weather the heat and the day. The girl may come back before the heat gets too bad. Doing this early morning has been a good decision. The leather and woodcrafters expressed interest in dying herbs. They were low in certain hues.

“We need blues and yellows. “ This came from the quiet baritone of her father. Bright blues and bright yellows were often difficult to get bright and clear.

Mara poked her head through “Do be careful dear. Don’t go out too far like last time. “ she said with a reminder of her ordeal with the band of would be raiders. Actually she never did find out about their fate.

Amunet looked skyward for patience. “I will be careful. “ She said as she finished getting ready and walked a bit out in the open and mounted smoothly. “Keep cool.” The girl said with an impish smile as the early morning air seemed to lift her hair. The Dawn‘s rays hit her hair and it seemed to leap into flame as she took off towards the gate.

The girl was in high spirits as she rode out of the gates with no incident and headed west and south along the “Run”. Once out of eyesight Shetanae opened up and they were galloping over the plains like wild things. There were moments like this, being one with you, your strider and the land beneath the galloping feet. It was like flying it seemed. At some point they came up on a raised area and her strider pranced a little in place feeling the same exhilaration her rider had felt. The redhead patted her on the shoulder. “it is good yes, but we need to slow down before it gets too hot. “ She wanted to run more too but responsibility spoke of preserving energy during the blazing heat that recently has plagued the Sea of Grass. She headed into the taller grasses along the run looking for berries, tubers and a little flower with a hard knot at the end that was known to produce black dye. This was used to darken other dyes as well for various hues. This wasn’t hard to find. It was finding pure white dyes. On the plains other than severely bleaching was the only way to get a whitish color. Bleaching agents became necessary if you can find it or buy it.

She continued to travel and search along the grass paths and caches that hid shy little treasures she would sparingly pick. This took her way west and way south. Shetanae kept alert and watched the tall grasses for any sign of anything harmful. “oh I think I did it again, Shetanae.” Huffing a sigh, she hoisted herself up onto the back of her horse to get a better view. The moved a bit further till they came to a spot that gave her a little bit more of a visual path. In the distance was a slight column of smoke. The girl didn’t recall any pavilion camps along here, but since they moved around it was possible. Amunet nudged the strider towards the column of smoke. Curiosity can be a good trait but sometimes landed her into some interesting situations.

As she approached there was an off smell when she drew near. There was also no one to greet her, no dogs or anything. The girl dismounted and looked around. Shetanae was nervous and kept close to her mistress’s elbow. The camp was not Drykas. The wagon indicated traders perhaps. It seemed plausible as this was a good time of year to trade with those of Kanesh and Sylrias. The dog was dead over by the side with a half full water bowl. The oxen that pulled their cart looked very poorly also. A couple of moans came from the tent. Amunet began to fear the worse for this camp. “Hel…lo?” She raised her voice in common that hadn’t been used in a while. The girl gave it a tic or two before she raised the tent flap.

The scene in the tent was tense and not pretty. It smelled of vomit, sweat and bodily waste. The red head coughed and girded her fortitude to tie the tent flap up and enter in. There was three adults and a child. To the closest which was a male she put a hand on his forehead. These people were under a pretty good fever from what she wasn’t sure. The man mumbled before getting something out that made sense “please, help us.” They were not Drykas, but they were not harmful either.
“what this did.. you.” She pointed to him. The man shook his head as it seemed he didn’t know or was too delirious to know.

She sighed as she started to get her sleeves rolled up and took a pack off her strider. The fire needed to be brought back up outside. She went to see what water they had on their wagon. Unsure of how long it been in the barrel, by instinct she went ahead to boil it. While that was going on she worked to get them cleaned up and into at least their shifts or underthings. Get those soiled clothes out in the open and get some air in that tent. It wasn’t the first time she had to clean men or women who were sick. Both top, bottom and in cracks that make some people blush. The hot water helped in this regard. All of this took time as the sun was would be going down soon. Amunet was seriously in nursing mode. The tea would be an infusion of known herbs for fevers and stomach issues. At least treat the symptoms. The girl scrounged through food stuffs to come up with soup material. She would remove an herb water soaked cloth and replace it. She created a poultice to go around the neck that was heavily scented and warm. The child she was most worried about. He appeared to be the same age as her little brother. She wasn’t sure how long she was at it till the rays of the sunset caught her eyes.

She would need to keep a fire going out front. The glassbeaks kept to the taller grasses but the scent that was here could make them bold. She knelt on the ground by the fire to lift her eyes to pray for Rak’eli’s guidance and strength. These people were in pretty bad shape. She took time to make sure Shetanae had the pad and Yvas taken off. The tall mare knew where to find what she needed. The mare did not go far and was back often to put her nose in the tent flap. “Helping me stay awake? “ She said with a smile and a worrisome chuckle. A noise behind her brought the herbalist back from her revery of the evening to turn back to her patients. The man roused a little bit. Amunet’s hand was at his forehead as his eyes looked a bit more alert. “Who .. are.. you?” It was very broken considering how high his fever still was.

“I.. help. I am Amunet.” She relayed to the stricken man. The careful girl lifted his head to drink some tea that was in her hand. “You, your family, very sick.” The girl said as she wasn’t sure how much he remembers.

The man did look confused but the light of realization slowly crossed his face. The others stirred as she went to them to give a drink of tea. The child she checked though he was still asleep. Sleep really was best for the young one. The man looked about to see lumps of his family about and there was no small amount of relief to realize they were alive. “Your one of the Drykas. “

Amunet nodded. “yes. “ The answer was simple. The tea had a bit of vervain in it to encourage sleep. It wasn’t strong and in their weakened state they would doze back off. She went outside to check the fire. Shetanae was not far and was at the moment relaxed.

The little herbalist worked through the night checking on them and giving them tea or soup if they gave the indication they wanted something more than just tea. The child she woke up at certain intervals to drink soup and or tea. That was important for children. Children and the elderly suffered most under illnesses. They can dehydrate quickly. In this heat, that was a death sentence. The man roused at dawn to find their benefactor readying her yvas onto her mount. “I be back. Need more water. “ The camp’s water bags was slung across Shetanae’s shoulders. “Drink more tea.” The girl admonished. The man sat down as he had squandered what energy he had by standing up to see what she was doing. He nodded to her.

The strider swiveled around and they started barely as dawn cracked the horizon. “Shetanae find water.” The girl would say in Pavi with the graceful hand signal and then the strider started out walking towards a direction. Her nose was to the ground and working her way towards her goal. They walked for a bit due west south west till they came to a thin stream. It would be larger if it wasn’t for the current drought. It smelled off and by off meaning bad. The Strider wouldn’t touch it. “Whats wrong with the water?” Amunet looked up and down the stream as if the waters and the grass would give her the answer which was met by just silence. The expelled huff from her lungs was greeted by a dawn breeze from up stream. It smelt putrid. The girl nudged her companion upstream “Shetanae we got to find out whats up with the water. “ Not just for the trader family she was helping, but the more nomadic clans who camp and may rely on this water.

There was no balance here that was for certain. The stench of dead was getting stronger as the stream grew wider and the putrid odor grew stronger. Shetanae was getting more nervous as the smell was blocking her ability to find good water. They came around the larger bushes to see the head of a large grass serpent staring at them which caused both of them to jump back and Amunet to about loose her seat from the back of the horse. The serpent hadn’t moved. The curious girl slid down from her companion’s back and unfolded the grass to look. If it wasn’t dead it was close to it. The girl stepped through the bushes and to the side to see the whole thing. Large ragged claw marks that seeped its blood into the stream and its mouth gaped open as venom seeped out from it. Dead fish littered nearby that couldn’t escape the toxic combination.

“If I can get this thing out of the stream.. it can rot on the side. “ There was only the Strider to listen to her but the horse snorted with a that’s that sort of response. It may not be out of actual understanding but the horse did understand that she was thinking of an action. The rope she procured from the bags as she worked a loop go up to what she thought as a dead beast to get a piece of it or even its head around the rope to pull out of the water and off well to the side to let the earth claim it. She did manage to get the rope on it and tighten the damaged body and then pulled. The thing lunged at her as she screamed. Shetanae shrieked out herself and she backed away at first. The lung was awkward and not aimed well but it tried again to get a piece of the girl, as the nimble girl was able to dance out of the way of the clumsy strike. The girl pulled her dagger she used to cut herbs. With the rope in one hand and trying to stab the head with the other she kept missing. The snake kept missing as well as it was fighting till it died. Shetanae bounded with her hooves, reared up and stomped on the body of the snake. The horse was having none of these shenanigans to her charge she was bonded to. The horse kept stomping till all sorts of nasty things came out of various damaged parts that a snake would need badly to live. This gave her the chance to stab the head and make sure that it was out of its misery.

Danuae took several deep breaths as she sat down , her dagger still in the head of the now very dead snake. It seemed her horse needed to breath to as it glared at the corpse as if daring it to come back to life. The girl offered a prayer up to the goddess of Healing to thank her. This could have gone very badly. It may not be very ritualistic but it was sincere. The little lady then got up and took her knife out and wiped it on the grass well before sheathing it. The original plan to pull the body away from the water to rot was easier. Getting her rope off the neck was a test in nerves. If a scale flicked she about jumped out of her skin till the rope was off and she recoiled it. “lets check that water flow. “ Once returned to the scene of the crime per say, the water was flowing more freely and signs of fresh water flowing and starting to clear up the damage had started. With a good rain this will be clean again.

Amunet headed a bit more upstream before filling the water bags with good water, Shetanae got a good drink of water and so did the herbalist. The girl headed back to the stricken camp with fresh water in time to get them some soup and continue her nursing. The young Drykas woman didn’t tell them a thing at the moment. Not while they are sick. Her family will probably worry but they hopefully will understand. The lack of sleep was starting to get to her, but she made a stimulant tea to keep going. The girl got the oxen some fresh water and took a look at them. They had the scours but they drank the fresh water on up. Hopefully they would start eating roughage, but they needed good water at the moment as it seemed that the contaminated water caused this whole sickness. Hopefully the webbers will get the signals of these travelers. Not that the Watch sometimes were not friendly to outsiders, but the webbers could tell if something was out of place. This may have others come seek her out. She stayed the course to see that these people found their strength. She sat outside the tent as they rested and drank the stimulant tea as the sun was going down.

52nd day, Summer Season, 515 A.V.
South Southwest of the Endrykas Run

The girl and her strider had to make another trip to get clean water. Her bags of foraged items she used to make more vegetable soup and herbal teas to help them with their symptoms. The child was still pretty sick. On towards evening again still saw the family feverish. Amunet laundered their clothing again and set it out to dry in the hot sun. That was one good thing about the heat and the sun. Your laundry dried quickly and the sun had a way of killing bad things in clothes. It made clothes smell good to dry out like this.

The girl had buried the remains of the dog with a shovel from their wagon. Amunet would forage through the wagon for anything useful to help with getting this family through this sickness. Diarrhea had set in with this family and that was worse than vomiting. The child was unfortunately vomiting periodically. It was becoming a struggle to keep fluids in the boy. The only way of dealing with this at the moment was keeping them comfortable and keeping them with fluids. There was a sense of helplessness about the whole thing. Those eyes narrowed as she wasn’t giving in. It wasn’t in the nature of the girl to give in.

She stretched back a little to give her tired back muscles a bit of a stretch. As the day coursed along she sat in front of the tent and dozed when she could. Any movement or sound she would dart up to check on her charges. Upon the late afternoon hot breeze she had opened a flap strategically so that it created a breeze way through the tent. This cleared the air in there. Though the air was not very cool, it provided a way of freshening the tent. The girl would sit on a makeshift stool right outside the tent, right at the opening. Her eyes would close briefly as the air moved and lifted the flame colored locks and danced around her face. Her face would meld to the side of the taut tent pole and a little bit of drool would dribble down the pole.

There was no noise and no warning as a woman would huff a bit of a laugh at the drool soaked pole. The spirited young lady bolted up like a shot as she looked around as there was a brunette woman standing there. “oh my goodness, hello.” The girl said to her brightly and raked her hair over her ear absently.

The strange woman casually asked. “what is it we have here?” The woman looked intently at the girl.

Amunet became mesmerized by those eyes. Perhaps mesmerized wasn’t the right word but they had a depth she couldn’t put her finger on. “The people here are sick. They are very sick.” The young lady wasn’t entirely sure why she answered like that.

The woman smiled. “Is this then your family?” She asked to Amunet in such a casual way that it was harmless.

“No, they are not. I am of the Drykas. They were sick when I got here. Did you want a cup of tea?” The weird feeling kept going and she falls back on tea. She pulled the safety as tea was her go to for a lot of things. This felt like a tea moment.

The strange woman inclined her head. “I would very much like a cup, Amunet.” The woman came forward picked up a box and turned it on its end to make an impromptu stool.

The girl nodded and went to the fire to clean a cup out of hot water and make the tea. The herbalist used her best peppermint and lemon grass for the tea. “I picked lemon grass and peppermint today. I hope that will be good for you.” She asked the stranger. Part of her said she should be alarmed and cautious. There was a part of her that was calm and good with the woman. Another side of her was trying to discern this woman and discern the conversation but little things kept slipping past her.

Amunet finished the tea and offered it to the dark haired intriguing strange woman. She watched with grace as she took the cup from her. The child made a noise as her head whipped around. “excuse me.” The girl was in the tent to tend to the child. Speaking tender words she would say to her younger brother when he was sick. The tone was soothing even if the words were in Pavi. She cleaned him up after he messed himself again. The boy was redressed in a large oversized shirt and bade to drink soup which he drank it more than ate it. The tea followed which would encourage sleep. He was still so very warm. The herbalist was unaware of the strange woman watching her. The worried frown on her face as she moved strands of hair from his little face.

The young drykas woman went to her position just outside the tent where the strange woman was still there. “They are very sick aren’t they?” Her brow furrowed with a worry.

Amunet’s weary head just nodded. “the water here was poisoned by a large grass snake dieing up river. They have fresh water now but the poison has to run its course. “ Why she chose to say that she didn’t know. Maybe it was a combination of tired and frustration. Maybe something she missed, or something she hadn’t done that would tip the tide to their favor would reveal itself.

The woman would nod again. “I see. It will take time for that to heal itself. You seem to hover over the boy more. “

Amunet looked at her and huffed a sigh. “He reminds me of my little brother. “ The answer was simple and it was truth. It was if that boy summed up her entire existence.

“there is more to life than just that little boy?” the woman said in an offhand way.

For a strange woman she had a cheeky way of things. “ Amunet’s eyes got a bit of fire in them as she looked at the woman. “that one small boy could be the next warrior to save someone else or a city. He could be a lot of things but that won’t happen if he dies from something that very well could have been healed.”

The woman seemed to smile the madder Amunet got. This little lady had a lot of passion that blended with her compassion. “These are not even your people.” In that same infuriatingly reasonable tone, she seemed to question her resolve.

She sat back. It was true that these were not Drykas. The Drykas tended to take care of their own and some of her people left the wayward traveler to their own devices to live or die. “your right. They are not. I am proud of my people. I tend not to mind their opinion of strangers. “ In fact she didn’t mind a lot of things that the elders said. The girl would leave with the wind and return with it more often than not.

“Why stay with your people if your so determined to disobey them.” Her voice grew stronger as if poking at her thoughts and ideals.

The herbalist shot her a look. “who are you to be saying these things. My people are a good people. I hope to learn from the healer’s tent one day. My mother was a great herbalist and medicine woman and I will be like that one day!” The heat and the tired was getting to her and this woman was poking at her good nature.

It wasn’t like it was a precarious situation as the young lady tried to shake the feeling that things were turning weird. The air felt strange. This strange woman felt strange and she had no compulsion to ask the lady her name, yet she didn’t feel alarmed. That in itself was the strangest. Her horse seemed to not be alarmed either. Amunet took her queue from the strider mare.

“Nothing is ever as it seems, Amunet. “ The dark haired strange woman said in a voice that should have alerted her.

“Why cant it?” She shook her head as it seemed to be slipping into fogginess. Who was this woman who seemed to come out of no where? The girl looked at her with a more intense piercing look in her eyes. “How do you know my name?” The girl asked in a girl’s voice. Despite being of age, The young herbalist was a girl. The woman’s voice seemed to be in her ear. It was lulling. It was entreating. It coaxed and soothed.

“If you saw what we saw, their physical form would not withstand it. Their very young souls may shatter in its presence. Yet in order to see, you must remove the veil that stands between you and the other. What stands between you and the threshold?” As this was said, it was like a shimmering sheer cloth was being placed before her eyes or a cloud or something. Ever so slowly, before her eyes things started shifting. The world around her overlayed with something else as her sight morphed into something else.

Amunet turned around as she found herself in a dark place. The drykas girl didn’t move till she got her bearings. She looked down to see she was all in white. It was in the clean and pure white that was in stark contrast to the long red tresses that spilled across the purity. There seemed to be something else. Something important but it was on the edge, out of reach of her memory. Where was her strider? Where was she? Her head turned slightly to the right as an urging filtered through her feelings like a cascade. Within that feeling she felt that was the way to go. The herbalist paused a moment. This was all so strange. The thunder rolled as she turned towards it. The flashing prongs in the distance didn’t frighten her but the dark shadows that coursed on the edge running from it did frighten her. The sounds those dark shades made didn’t sound very nice. The young lady ran towards the right where she felt the first time she should head that way.

All around her it seemed the ground was dead or it was ground basalt or onyx but this much would cost a small fortune. Amunet tried to feel for life. The life she felt that whipped around her in the Sea of Grass. Only this didn’t look anything like the Sea of Grass. It didn’t look like anything. How long she walked or ran as the shades would air bomb her if she stopped too much. The dive bombing had her on the ground at one point. A couple had pinned her down as she got a good look at as its gaping maw was every hungry, ever wanting. The feeling from it was of lust and avarice. It bored into her soul finding none of that and it went on from her hungry. The girl cried out as she ran she sensed Pride and Fear was hot on her tail. Roots came out of the ground and grabbed at her splendid white garments and she tumbled to the ground.

The girl turned towards the incoming shades. She kept trying to back away. How do you face that which you had used to protect your own heart? Fear was an odd bed fellow. Pride came from a people that survived and held an ego as large as the sun. How do you face your own ego and say no? The girl was confronted with this in her youth as she screamed with it surrounding her. In the cruelest moment her mother’s face and voice berated her senselessness and recklessness. Amunet thrashed about to break from the grasping vines and roots screaming “NO!!” The girl was all arms and legs as the shades tried to keep a hold of her. The garments tore and black marks started lining the exposed skin. “You are worthless. You are nothing. You are everything and no one can do a thing without you. “ Circled the shades. Her mother’s voice rang in her mind more than her ears. “you will rise above them all. You will fall with your failure.” How is it that both success and failure become your adversaries.

The girl was in shredded clothing as she screamed out to the shades. “All one can do is the best they can. It is the gods who determine the fates. Prepare for the worst and Hope for the best. “ Those very words her mother spoke to her when she was a child. There it was as hope was spoken. The girl grabbed onto that innocent word. Hope rang out from her like ray of sunshine. She turned her head as the light of something caught her attention. A temple beckoned to her. The girl ran for it. It seemed to speak to her as the echoe in temple happened as soon as she entered in the Temple. Her white garments were nothing more than rags and falling off of her. They seemed to melt off of her till she was naked.

Her arms came in was she as naked as the self conscious sensation coursed over her. The stark dark grey stone that seemed larger than she was made her feel dwarfed. Amunet was not an imposing figure in the slightest as her little self kept walking. The temple had an odd glow as it felt warm. She tended to be more self conscious of her own person than the average Drykas. When she treated another person, nakedness wasn’t an issue. This place seemed to reveal your nakedness and not just your flesh. The confused girl felt exposed and raw like a fileted piece of meat as every fiber of your being felt like a raw nerve. Her heart raced as she kept walking. The urge to keep moving felt strong.

The endless corridor opened up into a wide square room. It had nothing in it save for a center small decorated chest. The girl went to the chest and looked around. “hello?” Someone had to have left this chest so this place couldn’t be empty? The chest opened which caused the already on edge girl to jump back from it. After a few moments of looking side to side as if something would leap at her, she looked into the chest. There was a single bottle in there. The girl bent at her knees and gently picked it up to examine it. The bottle was gracefully curved glass of a medium thickness with a pinkish liquid inside. It appeared to be pink to her knowledge.

She heard something slide as she looked up and gasped. Amunet started to back up further and further as it came closer. Those brilliant gold eyes stared right at her as the largest snake she ever seen slowly advanced upon her. The girl had no weapon, no strider, nothing to protect herself. The snake lunged and she dove under it as she screamed. The girl might not be a warrior but she was nimble and quick. On that note she fell back and over upon the tail as the snake quickly lunged and sunk its teeth into the side of her face. She screamed again as the pain and the hissing sting she felt as the poison coursed through her body.

Her vision blurred and her stomach churned. Tears streamed down her face as she wanted to curl up and wish for it to go away. “you cannot harbor life if you cannot harbor death.” The voice seemed to come from the snake or the walls. The girl couldn’t tell at the moment. Pain traveled down her arms and her legs. It rode up into her neck as sharp stabbing jolts went into her head. “if you cannot withstand this, how do you hope to withstand the hurts of this world. “ Amunet opened her eyes as it became painful to see. “If life becomes painful, then it is those who find it best to not see, to not walk, to not swallow what life has to give them. “ Amunet looked at the bottle. She fought the surge of nausea as she stood up slowly. The strain to stand raked every fiber of her being as she yelled out, clenching her fist on her way to her feet.

Her mind screamed “No!!” To which that she said to the snake. “No. I will not surcomb.” Again she clung to hope. The pain on the side of her face subsided as she opened the bottle and drank its contents. The room changed. Her surroundings changed as the snake and everything else disappeared. There was a lightness to this as she felt the urge to move forward. The walls became more white and luminous. The girl felt dirty. She felt unclean and not worthy of being here it was so white and so clean. The girl stopped as what was the reason for all of this? Was this even worth all of this? Her heart grew heavy. So heavy it threatened to drag her to the ground. The white became oppressive .

The brow furrowed and she looked forward. She shook her head as the heavy feeling was overwhelming. The heaviness of all she had done and whom she had done against filled her heart with such pain she started to weep. She could stop if she wanted to. The poor girl didn’t have to worry and go through all of this for what aggravation. Didn’t she have to get back to something? NO, you don’t have to do that. Give up on that. Amunet closed her eyes as she bent her head down curling it in as she tried to swim through the heart heart and the pained soul that seemed ripped to pieces by all this guilt and doubt. Then there was that speck of life that shimmered.

There was that light there. It caught her inner eye. Her eye opened as the light grew with the hope she desperately clung onto. It was at that moment those sky blue eyes looked up. She stood up as she felt something more. It was something beyond her pettiness that held meaning. There was far more meaning than this small existence of her life. Her light within grew to meet this other light as she started walking towards it. Her hand reached out for it and reached and reached, till she came to an empty room. Something grabbed her and wrapped her in white scales as another snake whispered soothing words and at the touch of those scales all those hurts eased away. This snake wasn’t so bad as the edge of its scale touched the side of her face where the other snake bit her. Its blue eyes mirrored her own as it said “Life and death go hand in hand in a balance. Each have their place. It is our duty to see that a life lives its fullest till its fate is complete. Keep them strong and show them strength. To heal takes on many forms and you will have much to learn, child.”

The girl was released as she was pushed with the tail towards a door. “its only the beginning young one. “ The door opened as the threshold looked to be monstrous. As she puts her hand on the edge of the threshold it pushed down and she started to cross it. There was this absolute tingle that went through her entire person. Her soul felt a surge in evolution as understanding of certain things came to mind. The girl walked through the grasslands as she seemed back in her beloved Sea of Grass.

The sweet smell of green and good black earth beneath the thickly compacted grasses mingling with the fresh smell of the pure air that permeated her senses provided a sense of well-being as the girl walked in what seemed like an endless expanse of green. She was once again atired in white but of a finer quality. It clung to her like a glove and flowed about her like a cloud. The red hair danced around her like the inner flame of her very soul. Her bare feet did not come across any obstruction other than the grass that cushioned her steps. Amunet felt exposed and vulnerable, but at the same time free and invigorated.

Her attention was drawn to a slight rise in the open expanse. There was a distinct luminosity to that spot. Her soul was urging her towards that distant luminous as she felt an invitation, no an order of sorts that came in the form of a request. Her fingers lightly raked a strand of that red hair over one of her ears as she looked towards it. Like an innocent child, she moved forward to the light. The light grew and grew till she saw a table with two chairs, a raven haired lady and nothing else. The lady smiled and motioned to a chair.

“Here we are. I have watched you for some time. Since your mother crossed over.” The lady said softly, yet her voice remained strong. The woman looked deeply into Amunet as her dark eyes met Those delicate sky blue eyes.

Amunet got the impression that this was Rak’keli from somewhere, but no that isn’t possible. Is it? She heard that the healers had an intimate connection with the Goddess, but she hadn’t thought of it like this being in the presense of a divine. Why isn’t she burning up or shattered or something? The memory of her coming to her in that stricken camp sharply came into focus. “I thought you said that my soul would perish if I saw you on this side. “ Amunet realized she was not on solid ground. This was the aether or the place where the webbers speak of or something like that.

“This is the edge of the spirit world. It is often used to test and to initiate. “ Rak’keli inclined her head towards the girl. “You are fiery and passionate, yet you are selfless and compassionate. You are stubborn as the day is long, yet you will give the shirt off your back. You are argumentative and opinionated, yet your kind words and caring touch sooth others. “ The woman laughed. “Your fresh and responsive, yet question absolutely everything around you. Your biggest and brightest attribute and your biggest downfall is your curiosity.” The woman ticked things off as if reading deeply inside her. “Yet it is your willingness to do all you can with everything you got that attracted me most to you. That is what makes you burn so brightly.”

Amunet blushed in this calculation of her soul, her being. “I thank you for the kind words, divine one.” How does one address a goddess? Seriously, the poor girl felt self-conscious as here she was sitting with the lady as if they were having tea. Just as she thought that, tea appeared. The wide eyed apprehensive girl almost jumped back as it appeared. It was a mint tea, her favorite. She took a sip of the tea as the blend of mints was perfect. “I wish I could make a tea like this.”

“You see that’s what I mean, Amunet. Your curiosity takes you to places most people wouldn’t think. You think outside of the boxes that most people prescribe themselves to. Those are the careful lines that rule a soul, a mortal. Most live and die within that box. For most that is as it’s designed. That is the way of it. There is strength in those lines, yet you cross them, if only a little.” The lady sipped her tea with Amunet. It was more to make the mortal more at ease as she had already made her decision.

Amunet tried to fathom what she was telling her. The girl did put it into her memory so she could ponder them later. In truth she didn’t quite understand what she spoke of. “I do all I can to help those in need. My kind sometimes do not quite appreciate that. “ she bowed her head and then looked up “They mean well though. The Drykas are very much about family and community. We are a hardy people if sometimes a little narrow minded.” The girl cringed as she wasn’t sure she was making a very good case.

The great Healer Goddess laughed. “Yes, they can be narrow minded. Those narrow thoughts are the lines that they box themselves up in. If they are to survive they will need to see past those lines as you do. “ There was a twinkle in her eyes as she still giggled. “Your purity does you credit. Your innocence may not last much longer but your purity is your strength my dear. Be wary of that which would cloud it or cover it up. You will go to the River Flower tent and be with the Opal clan. Your time has come. “

Amunet was not sure if the Goddess laughing was a good thing or a bad thing. “But I have to see to those poor people. I have been away too long, the little boy. . .“ The wave of the Goddess’s hand stopped her speaking. She was standing in but moments as the scene around her swirled and swirled around her. It all melted and the overlay of where she stands was back where she had started. The tent of the trader family, the smell of sickness, the summer heat hit her and her own weariness was back to let her know she was truly back.

The sound of one of the sick people took her attention as she darted into the tent. The girl had her hand on a warm cup of tea to put to fevered parched lips. The child was worsening as his temperature was horridly and painfully hot. The girl became distraught as he wasn’t getting better. That jaw clenched as those teeth tightened down in their determination. The young Drykas woman turned and headed to the fire. Amunet needed to make a decoction. He needed something stronger. They all needed something stronger. The herbs she brought was put in a clean vessel to put onto the fire to extract its essences gently at first and then reduce gently. Meanwhile she gave the child what she could along with cool compresses. The others in the tent did not fare much better. The poison in the water must not be working its way out like she thought. Rather it is working its way out, but in a harsher way.

A thought came to her. ‘poison is hard on the liver and kidneys. ‘ Amunet looked around as her hand went to an herb as if on instinct. The girl nodded as she added that herb to the decoction. ‘hold the cup of water in your hand and put your hand on the forehead.’ The little herbalist thought the voice sounded similar to the lady goddess Rak’keli and took the hints and little guidance provided as she did as she was told. Something ran through her as it felt cool and vibrant. It also felt warm and inviting. ‘it will feel different to those who receive it.’ The little red head put the cup to the man’s lips as her hand was on his forehead. That sensation passed between her and the man as there was a glowish kind of quality.

Those wide sky blue eyes watched the man improve before her. His color turned from ashen to a more healthy glow. “You need more fluids. “ The girl said softly. The encouraged young healer went to the boy who was burning up with fever as she got another cup and attempted the same thing. “Drink” The girl encouraged the boy to drink as that same energy transferred from her to the boy in small doses. ‘you have to be careful not to over shock the system. Even with healing energies a little at a time is best in most cases.’

The boy looked more peaceful as he curled up and went back to sleep. Amunet put the blanket up to his chin. She checked the pot and stirred gently as it was reducing nicely. Then she went to the other two members of the trader family to provide the same treatment. The understanding was coming to her quick mind. She was starting to figure out how sick these people had become. The herbal support of the decoction would help strengthen the body to heal further. Helping the body over the worst of it and then allowing the body to strengthen on its own. The images came to her that echoed these thoughts. The little medicine woman went to the boy and provided a drink or two of the decoction and water before the herbalist would let him go fully asleep. Each of the other members of the family was provided the same treatment. She made them comfortable for the night.

They would need a restorative soup. Amunet dug deeply into her bags for herbs and vegetables she had foraged to make the restorative soup. The determined girl went to dig for another pot. Within the recesses of the wagon was a good sized stewing pot. The red head beamed at the pot as if it was a prize. The trader family had a little salt. With all the fluids they had lost, salt would build them back up. The sun sweated and backed salt out of the body. Not replenishing it, a person would get very sick very soon. The sun set as she cared for the trader family. The little boost helped. A number of root vegetables, wild onions and greens went into the water with salt and herbs. The pot was chunky and filled with the bounty of the grasslands.

She set out on her strider to obtain more fresh water. The industrious girl checked the location where the dead snake was rotting and the water was flowing freely. It looked better by the day. Now if only the rains would come. The girl headed further up to get fresh water. Before the darkness hit the camp she had come back with the fresh clean water. The soup was stirred once or twice. In her experience a soup shouldn’t need that much stirring. She cared for the oxen that were there and built up the fire out front to ward off the Glassbeaks. Shetanae was nearby as well. By the time that was all done the soup was bubbling gently and the vegetables were softened. She offered small cups to the stricken family with plenty of water. The girl made sure the boy ate despite protests. She then ate herself.

She watched the last of the rays exit the grasslands over the horizon as she ate the soup heartily. The girl then made a stimulant tea and finished getting the camp ready for the night. She looked the camp over one last time before taking a seat for the vigil. The stool she sat on was planted right in front of the tent flap she kept open for fresh air. The girl sat at the front of the tent as the vigil for the night started.
