Appearance

The Flesh


At the age of 32 wrinkles have begun their onslaught upon her countenance, most obvious around her eyes where crow’s feet have formed lightly. Her forehead often holds horizontal lines from her habit of frowning as she ponders upon what new information she may have been passed. Hard living has given her a rugged appearance for a woman, countless tales of torture and hardship etched upon her feature. The most glaring aspect of her visage is that of the scar across her left eye – cutting through her eyebrow, passing through her now uselessly white eye and curving towards her left ear across her cheek. A memento from her youthful bid for freedom at the age of sixteen.

One glistening emerald green orb still functions within her right socket and could be said to be deep if one looked carefully. It weighs, measures and assess everything and anything that it touches, her trade celebrating constant evaluation above all else. Blonde hair has been allowed to grow to the length of her shoulders, usually draped to her left so as not to obscure her good eye. Full lips grace her, one of her few truly beautiful assets and prone to smiles – real or feigned. A short and upturned nose she possesses and is of little note. Some have mistaken her for a man due to the squared shape of her jaw.

Her body is growing in age for a human but still maintains a relatively decent muscle tone – her form stocky and suggesting a more mercenary past than anything else. She is stronger than she looks, though her dexterity and speed are more mentionable if one were to make a good study of her character. She has been known to use her ample bosom to her advantage though shies away from advertising such an asset unless required – unwanted offers have been her curse for many seasons.

Personality

~ That Which Lies Beneath ~


The Soul


How one perceives Zandelia depends entirely upon the given situation that you are dealing with her in. A social chameleon of sorts she has learnt, through painstaking trial and error in her travels and interactions, that to truly be able to understand, use and convince someone you need to be able to strike a specific chord with them. Everyone has a lever upon them somewhere, this she knows well and will go to extraordinary lengths to find it if you prove to be of use to her. If not then she will simply spend her time with you learning, watching and filing any information she deems noteworthy about you inside her catalogued memory.

Still, a few personality traits are generally seen to tie her veneers together, so long as you aren’t actively trying to either sabotage or assault her person in some way. She has a sense of humour upon the majority of things, from the mundane to the depressively morbid. Calm, collected and verbose for the most part she prefers to use words as her weapons over physical intervention – though she is not above the latter if absolutely necessary. Observant and introspective she enjoys exploring anything of interest to her so long as a touch of a mystery or a puzzle is present. The mundane tends not to interest her, a fact which some could consider a weakness in her dealings with others on the basic level of socialization as it could be viewed as threatening or intrusive.

The ‘death’ of her family forged the majority of her early years, forced into servitude at the young age of twelve she has experienced a level of ruthlessly calculated abuse that has left a veritable map of psychological scars that she tries to keep locked away deep inside herself for fear of dealing with what might be unleashed if she let them out. The last time she did, in fact, she killed her former master and his thugs in order to gain her freedom – losing her left eye in the process. This leads her to treat people with some distance in terms of her feelings, though recently this has changed as a scattered few have slowly formed some semblance of a bond with her.

Her newfound freedom was liberating, for a time, though she suffered at the hands of one ‘Garret’ until freeing herself of him also. Unable to do anything other than seek out information and sell it to whoever proved the highest bidder she has developed an innate way of assessing the world based upon the concept of advantage and value. She has learnt her trade well over the years, travelling across Mizahar for a number of years as she formulated something akin to a dream – to create the largest information network since the times before the Valterrian. Whether this will ever be achieved is yet to be determined but she is willing to try and push it towards success as much as possible. She has not had any stellar successes as of yet, though she has still continued to develop her abilities to what many might say was a high degree – if they knew.

She has recently learnt that her past was not what it seemed at all. Her father was alive, somewhere in Mizahar, and had in fact sold her and her mother into slavery for nothing more than coin. Her mother died trying to defend her and the only reason she was kept alive is because her body was desirable – child though she was. This revelation, coupled with the traumatic events of her past (including a forced abortion of her master’s bastard child) have designed with in her the seeds of an implacable hatred.

One day the score will be settled, but for now she struggles on in her desires. She has chosen Nyka as her first ‘real’ foray into building her ‘Network’ and is planning only inking it up with one rumoured to be being developed by an old pupil of hers – one Kelmar Hedos. A returned Revy Hiroe, a female mercenary whom managed to gain a place in her heart seasons past now, has also returned to her under unexpected circumstances. She has forged a possible weakness in her some would say for her love for her flourishes and her happiness increases in her personal life. It provides a counter-point stability to the fact that a long time friend – Ana Sol Starris – has shattered her calm and their friendship with some ill-timed utterances.

Emotionally unstable at times in the present, the war between her calm and her raging emotions is a battle that will decide the course of her fate – and also, to a lesser extent, those around her.

Her development continues.

History

The Past


For the longest time Zandelia had thought her parents were both possessed of a deep love for her, that they had died at the hands of the brutal slavers of Sunberth so that their hands could grasp around her budding childhood and warp it for their own ends. She had been half-right, her mother had loved her, Had taught her music and dancing, to enjoy life where she could and though she was little more than a fond memory now It was a memory untainted. Her father, however, was a different story.

It had been he whom had sold Zandelia to the slavers, along with her mother, for good gold and the promise of self-advancement. Her mother died when Zandelia was taken at the age of twelve, protecting her from the hired thugs as Zandelia watched the blood pool from her position under the bed. From there it was a brutal existence for many years. At first it was merely hard labour, a defenceless thing to hurl blows at when business did not go well for her 'Master'. Alone, pained, likely to die soon. That was they way until a small child entered the scene, even younger and far more innocent. Fallon. She took to being a protector, to save herself as much as the little one she cared for.

It continued in harshness for many years, the abuse turning to the sexual and more as her 'Master' grew older and crueller. She thought that she would be broken forever, likely would have been had she not had her charge. As it was, under circumstances that are still hazy to this day, they both won their freedom – she losing her eye in the process. Wandering the streets, feverish and delirious and having lost Fallon in the streets of Sunberth she collapsed and awoke some time later in the bed of a healer. It took many seasons to fully recover, the compensation required after losing her eye and the illnesses after meant that by the time she was fully healed her past life had been washed away as by a great tide.

It was a Nuit next, though she did not know he was of the undead at the time. He did not use her as thoroughly as her slaver owner, did not technically own her at all, but the damage Garret unleashed upon her was surely as damning. He taught her the ways of the sneak thief, the spy and the murderer – for his own ends and advantage. She lost herself for a long time, she still does not know exactly how long. He fed her lies about her father, even took her to his grave – a fake of course. Eventually she outgrew him and when she tried to strike out on her own he tried to stop her. The last she saw of him for some time was a crawling body in a burning shack.

She worked alone for a time, helping merchants sabotage their rivals and wives outplay their adulterous husbands. She assisted gangs and grew to know the Syndicates of Sunberth and the associated players. She never made it much higher than the middle ground, found it a bitter taste to her tongue after what she had experienced in her short but mostly horrible life. She had youth, she had experience but she didn't have the edge – couldn't seem to understand whatever it was. It was time to seek something new, to try to improve and she knew she wouldn't do so with a bloody boot on her back.

From there she travelled the world for some time, meeting other peoples and experiencing cultures that Sunberthians could only dream of. She returned to Sunberth after a year or so, determined to make something of herself and of the city which, though free, now seemed to be petty and smalle compared to the grandeur of cities such as Nyka and Ravok.

Complicated and mischievous, this young woman has managed to garner a position of respect and affection within Zandelia. She captured Zandelia’s attention with the smell of tea, conversation and a unique form of trickery to gain her as an assistant. Wise, intelligent and strong there exists a strengthening bond between them that is changing and deepening with the trials they have faced together. Now are more partnership than employment, through stress and strife intimacy blossomed and an admittance into her heart was given. Still largely a mystery she continues to try and puzzle her out. She knows there is a beast within but is willing to weather its storms if it means the journey continues, trying to tame it along the way.
